Sorry about another sports thread, but how the hell is Cal Ripken's streak the most memorable moment in baseball history. What a f-ing joke. He hurt his team by refusing to ever sit and rest.

My favorite was when Gary Carter took a shit in the middle of 4 consecutive innings of a game in 1985.

I agree that Ripken shouldn't have even been in the top 20.
It was a nice moment for a "down to earth" guy (by pro athlete standards), but pales in comparison to the moments that were created in an instant (like Bobby Thompson's or Kirk Gibson's homers). It was also known a long time in advance when he would break the record, so it was all hype and no suspense building up to the event.

I think the most memorable moment was when the father and son jumped the wall and kicked the shit out of the umpire.
Classic white trash moment....

Eddie Gaedal's amazing appearance for The St. Louis Browns 1933. One base on balls... the highest career on base percentage of all time.

The vision of Brett tearing out of the dugout ready to rip the umps and Billy Martin's heads off never gets old.

Methinks you mean Robin Ventura. I think Ryan vs. Jesse Ventura would have been just as interesting.

How the hell is the Bobby Thompson homer not one of the memorable moments? How bout the Bill Mazerowski homer in 1960? What about Babe's called shot? That list sucked ass.

I was amazed when I saw Pete Rose on TV. He had been banned from even stepping foot in a major league baseball stadium. I hope that this means that Pete will get his due and be eligble for the Hall of Fame.

Bonds sucks. He is an asshole of epic proportion, and the fact that, at this moment, the Giants look like they are headed to the Series title is revolting.

Baseball's greatest moment is either the Carlton Fisk homerun in the 75 World Series, Hank Aaron breaking Babe Ruth's record, Reggie Jackson's 3 homers in the 77 Series, or Don Larsen's perfect game in the 56 Series.

Ripken's record is impressive, but even the most mediocre ballplayer can still put together a long streak of merely showing up and playing.

At least the home run moments required some sense of hitting skill and are far more memorable than Ripken.

I liked when Dusty Baker's son almost got run over in the middle of a World Series game because Dusty and Barry Bonds are so self-important that they let their kids run around all over the field DURING A GAME without any concern for their kid's safety.
Great parenting and example of being responsible. I wonder who they'd sue if a foul ball clipped one of those kids and killed them, or even worse: put the kid in a coma.
Then again-baseball is practically fixed, just like the NBA and boxing anyway.

He was invited a few years back for the All Star game at Fenway when they honored the "greatest players of all-time". It didn't get him elected then, and it won't get him elected now. At least not until the current administration dictatorship is overthrown.

Baseball's Most Memorable Moments

For me it was when I was 10 years old. I went to a Yankee game during the day, in the summer time, sat in the bleachers. So fucken hot I got sick and passed out. Since then I hated baseball. Especially when they preempt all the TV programs. What the fucks with that? And the Simpsons? Hasn’t been on for weeks, just so some idiot grown up men can hit a ball with a stick to see who can catch it. Talk about loonicy!

Dude I feel the same way. My dad had to nerve to ask me how I felt about last night's game. I guess since we live in the Bay Area I'm supposed to like the A's & Giants? I told him that I'm rooting for the Angels since I wasn't raised to be a Giants fan!!!! :p

What about that game that that loser Jose Canseco was trying to catch a fly ball, it smacked him on the head and I believe it went over the fence. Would that be considered a ground rule double?

Good one! Anything that makes Canseco look like a dick gets my vote. I was once tossed out of Skydome for yelling behind home plate that he should hit the ball like he hits his wife. It's amazing how pissed off people get at the guy that yells stuff like that-yet didn't have a problem with his initially hitting his wife.
But they did me a favor kicking me out-Toronto fans are quieter at sports than they are at libraries so I was barely able to stay awake.

Did the Vince Coleman throwing an M-80 rate anywhere in the greatest moments? What about Alomar spitting on Umpires? DAMN! There are just SO many great baseball memories.

Ball hits Canseco's glove and lands in the bullpen it's a home run, as long as it never touched the ground.

Same thing with his head.

Ah, well thank you! It's been a while and I didn't remember if it was a home run or not. :)

Ricky Henderson for two moments:

1) proclaiming himself the greatest ever on the night of taking the all-time stolen base crown; and

2) when joining the Yankees and being asked how it felt to patrol the same field as DiMaggio and Mantle, saying: "I don't care about all that, it's Ricky time!!!"

memorable doesn't mean necessarily the best.

I still always feel pity for Red Sox 'fans' that can't take the focus away from the Yankees to enjoy the REAL accomplishment of their team. So sad.

no Red Sox fans that i knew watched the beginning of game 4 until they heard a favourable later score. they had entirely quit during the 3rd game.
