PHOENIX — Kirby Puckett was listed in critical condition early today after surgery for a stroke, and the Minnesota Twins asked fans to pray for the Hall of Fame outfielder.
Puckett, who led the Twins to two World Series championships before his career was cut short by glaucoma, was stricken Sunday at his Arizona home.
A nursing supervisor at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, who declined to give her full name, said early today the 44-year-old Puckett was in critical condition. She did not provide additional details.
Puckett had surgery at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn on Sunday, the Twins said from their spring training camp in Fort Myers, Fla., and was later moved to St. Joseph's.

LarryHorseFucker 03-06-2006, 08:35 AM He's a piece of shit, tough luck. :o
Mama-looka 03-06-2006, 09:36 AM From what I read, former teammate Tony Oliva said Kirby was getting very heavy. He was always chubby, part of his everyman charm. I don't know if this contributed to the stroke, but I'm sure it didn't help...
After he was forced to retire, we all read a lot of negative things about him. his ex-wife said he beat her, he was a phony, etc. Another woman said he groped her in some bar...
Anybody know if these things were true? Or were they the bullshit of a disgruntled spouse/golddigger?

He got in becuase everyone thougth he was a "swell"guy. Fat guy running around in the outfield, like a black Santa.
I read the transcripts of the Sexual Assault on some lady a few years ago- nasty, round bastard. The media just played him up.
MexicanArtie 03-06-2006, 10:44 AM Ha-Ha! Did Mattingly lead his team to the world series? The guy was the leader of those great twins teams, and he was the face of the team. I never knew he had a bad record. Poor guy, no wonder he had a stroke. Nonetheless, I hope he gets better. Maybe he can come back as a better person. Good luck Kirby!!

Good condition?
He blew up to the size of a blimp (or Artie) after he retired.
Plus, baseball players aren't in any kind of shape. They are lazy asses.
But Kirby seemed like an OK guy, so hope he does well.
Jack Shit 03-06-2006, 11:05 AM He was a stroke waiting to happen.
