I have been using my S50 for 2 months now to record the Stern show with few issues. I think it failed to kick on to record the last block maybe twice. I was cool with that. Even though that sucks, I could live with that happening every now and then.

I figured I was one of the lucky ones.

Well, today, it kicked on in the homedock when it was scheduled to start recording, but didn't record AT ALL. Not a single one of the 3 sessions recorded. The unit was still on when I got home. It didn't even kick off. WTF?!

FUCK. This is the first show I will have missed since 1-9-06.

I love the concept of the S50, but I'm starting to think we got screwed buying this product that was obviously rushed to market too soon.

I had the same issue, and even though I had the latest update, I hooked it to the PC via the Sirius Studio, and attempted to download the latest update. Even though it appeared that nothing was downloaded, I haven't had the problem again.

I guess it's something that just "happens" once in a while.

You never know what show you're gonna miss.

This happend to me once. I checked the scheduled recording settings and the dates were all screwed up somehow. I had to delete them and reschedule.

I bought another car kit and plugged it into a timer so it turns itself on and off. Plus it has fm transmitter in it, so I can listen throughout the hosue. I have not had any problems with it not recording. Also I bought the s50 adpter that Sirius.com sells, so I don't need the ac/dc converter. I'm very happy with setp up!!

That little car dock gets so freakin' hot though.

I've never had a problem with the car dock getting hot. It does get warm, but never hot.

Well, I got home and found that today my S50 recorded the 1st 2 hours but did not record the second 2 blocks.

I feel like throwing it out the fuckin' window.

Make sure you unplug your home dock for a few seconds with the S50 docked, before your scheduled recordings. I do mine each night before bed and haven't missed a recording since.

One reason the home dock might not be turning itself back on after the 5min. gap is if you set up the scheduled recordings while the S50 was in the car dock not the home dock. If you think this might be the reason delete all the scheduled recordings and do them again while the S50 is in the home dock.

Another note - when the new firmware (1.3) comes out the need for the 5min. gap should be gone. They said it should be fixed in the next firmware - which is gonna be nice.

I am glad that I didn't rush out and get the S50. I'll just wait to the bugs are ironed out.

s50 suckes but its the best they have right now ;(

the 1.3 version of software is what we are waiting for.. it was slated for the week of the 20th of february but has been pushed back..

It ain't ever coming out. Give up the dream. lol

Yea, my fucking signal keep dying on my home unit. Worked all last week and then wham, friday it shit te bed, nothing on the weekend and again nothing tonight while I am getting ready to record 2night's show, go figure

I need to know what would be a qood legal music download site to fill my S50 with music. I tried Napster, but the S50 I was told is not compatiable. Anyone know any sites???

Right now the GUI is so clunky and somewhat confusing. Who wants to dig through 3 levels deep into the interface to get to your channel presets? And what's with not being able to offload your shows to your hard drive?

The reason you cannot offload your recordings to your hard drive is because Sirius(and XM) were threatened by the RIAA(Recording Industry) with lawsuits if they allowed this feature. The RIAA members sell their music via download sites, e.g. iTunes. They don't want people bypassing these lucrative pay-per-download services by using their satellite receivers. They will never allow this feature. In fact, the RIAA is already trying to squeeze both satellite providers by raising the royalties Sirius and XM must pay them to 30% of revenue. It's only going to get worse.

I had the same problem, Go to Sirius Backstage S50 Forum. All sorts of people are having antenna problems with the Home kit. Better off using a vehicle antenna. Looks like DEI is making good money selling inferior antennas.

My s50 had no problems until 2 weeks ago. It missed a couple of days of recordings and eventually quit. I was told to try the three finger reset, but it just made it worse - now it doesn't even work in the dock. The kicker? Sirius told me to ship it back at my own cost and wait up to 6 weeks to get a new unit. Customer service stinks, the s50 stinks and the service stinks. Thank god for Howard or this place would be out of business.

One of my ear plugs went out on the set that came with my S50 ..... Can any one suggest a good pair ??

Has there been an S50 replacement announced yet? I'd like to get a 2nd generation unit but was wondering how long I may be waiting.

Antiquated customer service I have 3 units, but my S50 is always a problem.

After going thru 888-539-7474 3 times due to incomplete menu I am now on IGNORE for more than 30 minutes. They have verified my account is good, but once they forwarded to tech the background music is gone and no body home.

I did a DELETE ALL to clean up my stern programs and the unit died. No response, no way for over an hour.

Is there a RESET proceedure? And another one for frustomer service?

I was considering buying one but I think I'll hold off on that. Seems like too many problems.

I do love my S50, though today I wasn't getting any sound. So called the Sirius help line. I had to reset all settings and lost all my content. That realy sucks
