View Full Version : Problems with Sirius Signal Loss in Phoenix Arizona
sandog61 03-14-2006, 01:48 PM I have a window in my office that faces east (totally unobstructed), I can aim my antenna due east or a little to the northeast or southeast (but not due north or south, or west). I get one or two bars of signal for most of the day (8am to 5pm, Arizona Time), but around 10:30am to Noon I get spotty or no coverage at all, then it comes back to the one or two bars of coverage.
I have the original Audiovox Boombox with the plug and play unit (that I use in my car and at home).
On a side note, I have been experiencing lots of drops on the commute into work (7am to 8am) and on the way home (5pm to 6pm). I used to get full 3 bar reception, now it drops everytime I pass a tall truck or tree or the freeway dips down below the natural grade.
Anybody in Arizona experiencing these same issues?? I really think that as soon as Sirius starts making some money they need to get more Satellites up in the air and increase the ground repeater coverage. I love Howard, so I will put up with this crap for only so long. Any new Sirius users will not put up with this at all, and drop the service.
HELP!
f-robin 03-14-2006, 09:19 PM I don't have any problems with my reception. I have the S50 and use a car antenna at home as well. I just through it out on the roof of my patio and I get great reception. All the way to work and back also, and that is going through Camelback mountain. You might want to look into buying a new antenna or something.
Cran97 03-15-2006, 09:36 PM I also have the S50, I use it in my work van and drive all over the state. I almost never have dropped a signal except under bridges and tunnels. If you drive down town Sirius has terrestrial antennas all over. I even get a pretty decent signal in my garage with the door closed. Try either a different antenna, or upgrade your unit.
mybluox 03-21-2006, 09:28 AM I'm in tucson and I lose signal by I-10 and alvernon all the time. I have a friend who never loses signal. I believe it's the lousy Audiovox PnP receiver I have.

raider04 04-05-2006, 09:56 AM I agree, might be an equipment issue. I work at sky harbor airport and I can't find anyplace, even under the terminal behind closed doors that I don't get a signal. Unless you are far from downtown area you should not be having a problem.
mystikmike 04-05-2006, 10:25 AM raider - what unit do you have? and what antenna?

jr1074 04-08-2006, 12:52 PM I lose my signal in Tucson for about 4 miles between mile marker 262 thru 266. Its right by some sort of plant they have on the side of the freeway.
jtrios 04-08-2006, 12:59 PM i have starmate and drive all arouns the valley and dont ever loose the signal, not even thru teh tunnel. peace
f-robin 04-08-2006, 02:12 PM Ever since I installed the 1.3 firmware update for my S50 I have all kinds of signal problems. Anybody else?
eabos 04-08-2006, 07:19 PM In the car my s50 works great, epsecially in downtown Phoenix where I work. But I have the home kit and I think I have a bad windowsill antenna. I have tried it everywhere, even on the very top point of my house. And I live in the west valley (Avondale area) so it's not like there are any mountian to block the signal. It only gets reception if I hold it in my hand and point it to the sky and even then it's weak. If I bring the car antenna inside the house and hook up to the home unit it works great, even just sitting on the floor. I guess I'll just go pick up another antenna, or maybe just get another car antenna.
Has anyone else noticed how many people are using Sirius around here? I notice because almost everytime I start my car I pick up a strong signal through 88.1 before I even turn the Sirius unit on, lots of the time it's Howard I hear :D
raider04 04-10-2006, 09:52 AM [QUOTE=mystikmike][B]raider - what unit do you have? and what antenna?
Sanyo crsr-10 with standard antenna. I have 4 antennas, all sirius orig type, work/home/boombox/car. Best price i've found for replacement antennas is at the siriusspot.com.
