HOWARD STERN FILM FESTIVAL

The big day is only 2 weeks away so we might as well get ready. They announced that the red carpet event will be held the Hudson Theater at the Millennium Hotel 145 West 44th St in NYC. It's a 102 year old NYC landmark. If you are coming out, keep in mind that this is an upscale event. You may want to shave & get dressed up.
[PHOTOS HERE (http://www.millenniumhotels.com/MCIL.nsf/lu_hoteldoc/58$$other?opendocument&other)] [CLICK FOR DIRECTIONS (http://www.google.com/local?hl=en&hs=CfO&lr=&safe=off&q=hudson+theater&near=New+York,+NY&sa=X&oi=local&ct=title)] [PRESS RELEASE (http://www.sternfannetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=116741)]

CELEBRITY FILMS: Judged by Bubba the Love Sponge & Sam Simon
The Three Faces of Ronnie - JD
Power Walking - Richard
Trans Chavon America - Robin & Fred
Death of Terrestrial - Doug Goodstein
Be Like Art - Artie
Robin's Meats & Vegetables - Sal
Fred - Howard

CONTESTANT FILMS: Judged by Howard Stern, Robin Quivers, Richard Roper, Todd Phillips, Richard Belzer
I don't have the names of the 9 films yet

04-17 UPDATE: The judges have been announced. Howard Stern and Robin Quivers will be joined by film critic Richard Roeper, director Todd Phillips, and comedian Richard Belzer to judge the final 8 out of the 2,137 film festival entries. Films will be rated on originality, overall quality, and connection to Howard Stern Show.

SFN PRE-PARTY: 5PM-7PM SFNers will be meeting up before and after the show right across the street from the Hudson Theater at St Andrew's Pub (http://www.standrewsnyc.com/). Hit the pub at 5PM for drinks while watching all the red carpet action.

RED CARPET: 6PM-7PM The Howard 100 news will be reporting live from the red carpet. I'm sure there will be plenty of coverage. Maybe one of our H100 News people can fill us in with some details.

FILM FESTIVAL: 7PM-10PM Over two thousand entires are in and being reviewed. I wish everyone luck and hope to see some SFNers make the final 9. 400 people will attend, Artie will do a couple minutes of standup, and Sour Shoes will be the house musician.

VIP AFTER PARTY: 10PM-12AM The after party is going to be a small cocktail party with all the Howard 100 / 101 VIPs at an undisclosed location. Everyone you know from the the Stern, Bubba, & Ferrall shows will be there. I will be hosting the Super Fan Roundtable live starting at 10PM from inside the Film Festival After Party!!! My guests for the evening are King of all Blacks, Zolar, Christine, & Lori but we expect plenty of show people to crash the show.

SFN AFTER PARTY: 10PM-2AM SFNers will be heading back across the street to St Andrew's Pub (http://www.standrewsnyc.com/) to finish off the night. I will do my best to drag the drunken VIPs over for drinks with the fans. If you don't have tickets, come by earlier and meet up with the other SFNers. Many SFNers without tickets will be coming at 8:45PM to start the night off and get ready for the crowd. More Info about the Pre & Post SFN Gatherings can be found here. (http://www.sternfannetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?postid=2194051) Be sure to sign up if you are coming out.

HOTEL: The Millennium Hotel is sold out for that night but there are several other hotels in the area (http://travel.travelocity.com/hotel/HotelAvailability.do?SEQ=11449465609803132006&path Indicator=HOTEL_REGULAR).

You can check out some of the entries online at YouTube.com (http://www.youtube.com/results?search=howard+stern+festival&search_type=search_videos&search=Search)

I can't believe they're only going to choose 8 out of all the entries. I would like to see more films from the fans instead of a staff and wack-packer festival. And I heard they'll dedicate a segment to really bad films. This sounds good on paper, but I doubt it'll be good when we watch them. I rather watch a good film then a bad one.

I would kill to be able to go to the Film Festival...I really think that it's awsome that Howard just gives these away to everyone, not really having a clue as to who is going to show up. The audiance at this festival is gonna be titalating.

I watched a few stern film entries on yourtube.com just do a quick search. They mostly sucked I don't mean to be a downer, but I think this is a one time event. I don't think it will translate to radio well and anyone that wants to see stern flicks can easily pull them off the web.

Anyone know about this place? Broadway Inn (http://www.broadwayinn.com/rates.aspx)
it's right around the corner of the theater at 264 West 46th Street

I called and they have 3 suites available for that night. He says each one only sleeps 4 but they have 2 doubles & pull out. Sounds like more than 4 to me. ;) The suites are normally $350 but if we act fast he'll give us a group rate of $255. If you guys go in together, it's a pretty good deal. If you want the deal, contact me and I'll give you directions.

Did anyone catch Sal and Richard's entries on Howard TV? Pointless and horribly done. I saw Richard's "Dork." I also saw Jason's "A Couple of Bitches" that featured Sal. At the end of Richard's, there was a way to get tickets announced.

On April 17th, starting at 12 am Eastern, the first 50 people to e-mail (RSVP) howardtv@indemand.com will receive 2 tickets.

Of the 3 generated by staff so far, the News was the best...

After reading the Entertainment weekly article on Howard where Howard mentioned a fascination with a clip of women bowling in bikinis and high heels as a young man, maybe Richard could have made Scott's bowling interesting by having him bowl against a bikini clad woman...

"A Couple of Bitches" was ok, I guess. The credits indicated it was Jason's. Maybe Jason should have filmed his cat's birthday party instead.

Are we all getting jaded in our old age, or what?

On April 17th, starting at 12 am Eastern, the first 50 people to e-mail (RSVP) howardtv@indemand.com will receive 2 tickets. Now is this meaning 12 o'clock midnite Sunday...two hours after Saprano's end?
Or 12 o'clock Monday...one hour after Stern....during the Howard News?
I skipped that day they taught this.

I still think it should be given out too random callers. That way you can kinda tell if this person is worth having there. Will they show tits for example! This 1st 50 e-mail way, you'll have 100 people there just because they have the lastest spam e-mailer?

Only people that really love the show or sent in a movie should attend, really! No first 50 this or that! I would say, it would be alright if you are a Sirius lifetime subscriber starting Jan 9th. the day the show first aired could get ya tickets.

That way i'd cover all bases. :p

Peace out!

the final 8 out of the 2,137 film festival entries. Films will be rated on originality, overall quality, and connection to Howard Stern Show. Did they cut it back to 8? I heard Howard today say, "Move it up too 12 if 12 are good". Artie even said he would scale back his stand up just so more could fit in.
It sometimes sound's like us fans worked harder on our movies than they are working on putting it all together...lol...at least it makes for a good show. Hearing Howard get on Doug or any body is priceless! I kinda feel sorry for doug, except then I realize his status...sound's like he's just praying for April 28th.

Me too, the anticipation is driving me nuts. I've been checking the boards and the websites trying to get information about getting tickets and I've been checking my email constantly. I don't know if my DVD made it through the first cut though because I used music. I purchased the rights to use the music but I don't know if I included all of the necessary information about the music. Their list of rules gets pretty crazy.

Hell, I'd fly into New York on my own dime if I placed in the top twelve. I would fly on my last half cent, if I just heard they might fit it my film at the end while people were leaving!

yeah i dont know how it all works, if the finalist get flown out and put up in a hotel for the night. I wouldnt be surprised if thats the case. They get flown out on their dime. That is why doug was saying it had to be 8 finalist for budget reasons. Then Howard said "12 should make it, if 12 are that great" which he's saying they are.

Here is some good advice....How about you drive by bus, picking each up at their houses? Then these 12 finalist would have too share one room. That would save money. You could film it all as i'm sure all would have video cameras in hand. Admit that would be interesting to see...a couple of Artie Langes, a couple of bad Stern look alikes, a couple of strange future wack packers, one strippers and a regular dude with his wife all on one bus! Plus the footage of them going back would be even better! The one winner would be talking shit the whole way only to get beat down before crossing the mississippi by two Artie Langes! Oh, and that stripper would surely be naked the whole way! A win win plan if you ask me!

Peace out!

kinda sucks such short notice...if I were to make it I couldn't drag along my partner in crime with movie stuff cause he'll have to cover my ass at work...too little time

On another note, Good luck folks...I pulled a few statistics based on the youtube movies, and if you have a quick paced TOPICAL and well made movie that doesn't use copyrighted music, logo's, etc. you've got a 1 in 18.6 chance of making it to the final 8. I won't share how I got those odds, and it's a small amount of movies to base this on, but GOOD LUCK!

I'm wondering the same thing...even if I don't make it I'd be SO HAPPY just to have someone view my entry on TV!!!!!! no matter how you slice it this whole film festival is about the coolest thing since ribbed condoms!

It's hard to know what they were seeking. We went with a story-driven five minute skit called 'BrokebackFellas' where Henry Hill is taken out to the wilderness by Ennis and Jack (characters from 'Brokeback Mountain') and ass-raped...but who knows if that is what they were looking for? :(

I think anyone who submitted a funny film will agree with me and those who sent in other kinds will agree with them, doesn't really matter what we think though, its the judges that will decide that.

Brokebackfellas, TAMMRON's 9-11 movie and others really sound funny and/or very interesting.

We should have our own film festival and see who the winner of the losers would be...

It's probably not allowed but Doug should let us do it on HTV or something.

So much of it has to be timing. Who watches it, when they watch it, etc. If you made a film about Artie’s eating, for example, it’d be shitty luck and timing if you made one that was actually good that was watched right after 15 crappy ones.

There’s no way it is just Sal watching them, my guess is a few people weed through the initial stockpile for ones with obvious copyright stuff, terrible video or sound quality, or nothing really to do with the show. My guess is that process will make the actual judgment easier and more fair, or whatever you want to call it.

The email refreshing continues…

Another thing is this is Howard Stern's Film Festival and he is not going to even see any of the films till the night of the festival? I was hoping he would at least screen some of the last 20 films or so for his input, he has no more input than a judge like Belzer unfortunatley it seems. Howard is the one I was hoping would decide the final 8, we all know he has a good eye for something quality, unlike maybe some of the staff there.

Another thing is this is Howard Stern's Film Festival and he is not going to even see any of the films till the night of the festival?

That's a great point... Also, why couldnt the show at least explain how the process went?

I heard that Sal, Richard, Doug and others watched all the movies and that one movie even scored 100 points. BUT... was that one judge with 100 points or did 5 judges all give 100 points???

I really thought that the discussion of the process would be a great bit for the show. Then again, maybe they are waiting to do all this next week which will still be interesting but anti-climatic.

Also, maybe next year they should get a bigger venue and give the top 25% of the movies 2 tickets to see the film festival and/or the contestants a chance to buy tickets!!! Why is some guy who faked giving his wife anal going and we cant???

I think next year will be better... and even bigger. But in the meantime, I think we should still make some movies for fun and to get better.

Yes, and I noticed that the legal release form was actually modified after it was initially posted on the site. That, along with other problems outlined in your email (rushed contest period) and lack of clarity from Goodstein made this a somewhat frustrating experience for many filmmakers.

Nevertheless, we had alot of laughs making "BrokebackFellas" and Henry Hill's ass rape revelation just recently made him a perfect fit for a Brokeback Mountain parody.

What was the 5 min rule?

It was your film has to be UNDER 5 min, but your credits could run over 5 min??

And I rushed it a bit, but I planned it out ok. 5 min isnt enough time to make a real gem, but enough to make people laugh.

I am currently dealing with the utter disapointment of not making the festival. So I hope it shows up on InDemand.

But enough bitching, we're all in the same boat......if we dont make it, I want to us to put all our hard work up on the web and let the dope ass posters of SFN judge em.

well in the "official" rules it only says maximum 5 minutes, the 5+credits was only instituted on air.....so I followed the official rules(keeping it under 5 minutes), so that there would be no chance of disqualification

I just think a side-splittingly funny film is the most entertaining kind of film you can have in that amount of time. Its hard to make The Godfather in less than 5 mins. Just my opinion. I would agree "side-splitting funny film is the most entertaining", you got me on that one.
I'm just saying this is named "The Howard Stern Film Festival", not "The Howard Stern funniest film Festival".
Now I'm not going to reveal my movie, but I will say, even though my subject has a 9-11 feel I think I added a comedic at the end with a Sal the stockbroker mention....that's all i'm saying even though there is more comedy in there I just felt I couldn't really add too much splitting ha ha ha ha funny tones being 9-11. I could just see it now....I'm walking up on stage and people booing throwing crap at me and beating my pregnant wife up, so I keep it sirius....serious.

Cynicism is fun.

I'm on the ledge of my building right now. This would of been great footage for my film! Where were you a month ago? Would it be too much to ask where you're at? I mean i'm still hitting up this film festival again next year, if i'm not picked and I could use this for a better more sexier/gayer 9-11 version! I got dibs on the title "9-11 Brokeback buildings"

I'm really looking foward to seeing all the movies but HTV is not available yet in my area...

Brokebackfellas, TAMMRON's 9-11 movie and others really sound funny and/or very interesting.

We should have our own film festival and see who the winner of the losers would be... HTV is out of my reach as well. I did hear Howard say some thing about, "Taking it in the road" Sounded like they would show them in off the wall places around the country. Hummmm....sounds like I might catch it then, as it passes my through?
Thank's for mentioning mine as a film you think might be interesting! Mean's a lot just to hear that! I could of been describing a film that sounded shitty....but you said interesing....Sound's like I still might have a chance then?

Tell ya what though...I will send ya a copy for free, the way I originaly wanted it too be?
Hell, I will give ya the whole raw footage as that is funny, not to toot my own horn, but too see a me try and get into my self made straight jacket for a half hour, then balance on my head while clapping my hands alone in a room wearing just long johns and socks on my hands is side splitting unedited.

Peace out!

I think they are lying about contacting people over the weekend. There is no real reason why they could not have contacted eight finalists by phone today.

I think they are dragging this out in some kind of bizarre attempt to maintain interest in the festival over the weekend. Starting Monday, Howard will hype it up all week...in the meantime, we all get used and abused.

jigzaw
04-21-2006, 08:58 PM
we should make it our quest to be sure that no industry people were used. No sag actors. I couldn't work with a few people I wanted to because of affiliations. They better not choose the films on the fact that someone put mi=oney into the thing. It takes the spirit out of all these types of festivals

I can understand this. My greatest fear is that some of the finalists might have crossed what was interpreted as the line in the rules. Like using music or show audio that at one point Howard said was cool on the air, but the official rules clearly forbade.

I've also been worried about it becoming a wack-packer fest with winners being people who are on the show all the time (Maryanne from Brooklyn, Irish John, High Pitch...) but aren't officially "employees". They have as much a right as anyone else to submit, but I feel they should be in the staff section because although they're not employees, they are cast members by any stretch of the imagination and are likely the actual subject matter of many of our movies and have a huge unfair access to Howard and company that no one else has..

Blah blah blah. We still don't know, so it's really too early to bitch about who won. I'm kind of bummed that I got my ass up at 5 A.M. (central time) to hear the announcment and went to work an hour late, and they still haven't made it.

The most important thing to me is that they watched them all. Sal said he had watched them all, but jesus, I did the math and even if they only got 2000 entries, at 5 minutes each that's 166 hours, or 6 whole 24hour days. Who the hell could have watched all that especially with all the hundreds coming in at the last minute. We'll see.

Given those math calculations.....wouldn't it be difficult to take the top 100 films and watch them again to help in making their picks?

Man, I was content with giving up with this.......now you dangle that string of hope back in my face.

Could they realy be waiting to contacting the finalist to limit the risk of work getting out of who they are so they can make the announcement first?

I am losing it! :bang: I gotta know if I'm in or not. With each passing hour, I feel like our chances are slipping away.

Rumor check:
>>Are there 8, 10, or 12 finalists? I have heard all variations.
>>Howard.tv indicated winners will be notified from 4/22 to 4/24. Perhaps they have notified some "for sures" and are going through the "maybe" pile. (I have to keep hope alive).
>>Without naming names, can anyone confirm that a finalist has been notified? Any inside scoop?

I have to be blatantly honest, not contacting the finalists at least one week prior to the event is kind of classless. Some people may have to lie, cheat, steal and beg for time off to be able to make the festival with (I'm sure) a ton of possible entries coming in from the West Coast.

Good luck to everyone. Hope the lucky finalists get contacted soon.

I wish I could bring myself to believe you, fyed but I'm going with the more cynical route...

1. The finalists have been notified and reminded that they may not distribute their film in any fashion prior to the festival. Probably encouraged not to discuss their finalist position at all and/or those finalists are not members of various Stern bulletin boards.

There's no way Howard is going to call people on Monday. There's no time to plan and have them get there. He doesn't care. He doesn't want to work that hard. Calling people cold would be boring....although it would be really interesting to have them listen, know he's calling a winner and then having your phone ring. But still, if he were going to do that, he would have said that. If they aren't home....boring.

So where/how would you ever use it again?
in a demo real or something?
never for profit... right??
and you can't submit it in any other festivals

If you submitted the film you signed a contract saying they own it hands down. Winner or loser of the contest.

I think with all of the work that went into them it would be nice if Howard could at least judge or watch more than 8.

I think with all of the work that went into them it would be nice if Howard could at least judge or watch more than 8.

THAT is exactly why many of us made the short films.....to have Howard watch them and make him laugh. It is dissappointing to hear that he hasn't viewed any of them and will only view the final 8. Even if they play the ones that didn't make it later on iNdemand, he most likely still won't see it....I doubt he sits there and watches everything on there himself.

It's a given now that the final 8 have been contacted and have probably been sworn to secrecy. But what about the "runner up(s)".....how and when do they get notified? Howard would have to watch them, too....wouldn't he?

I think it's the users here that aren't speaking up that could possibly be finalists at this point. They are wearing a gag in their mouths and laughing there arses off at us whine.

do u know how much time it takes to schedule a film festival? This whole thing was conceived about 2 months ago. This is a small festival of HS - related movies to promote Howard TV. Do u assholes ever stop bitching? I guarantee if they do this next yr it will be a bigger event. I wouldn't worry about the films posted on you tube. Not to be a jerk, but if anyones films looks like the ones on you tube don't be waiting for a call. Those films are the least of our problems. If your film is on you tube. sorry

Let me help us all get grounded. This is Howard Stern and we are on the butt of the joke. "Waaaa" and all that. The winners are announced. We are how many out of the 2000 entires (why did Howard say 4000 on Friday?). The winners are not on the boards. We didn't get in but we had the balls to step up to the plate and enter.

I think mstrre makes a good point, but the "other theaters" is indemand. Watching an hour of short films is about the limit. After a while it gets boring.

So here's the bright side. I was talking to someone who said he had a great idea but didn't enter it. He wanted to pitch me the idea, but I didn't care. He didn't make his film so why should I bother listening to it. We went out and did the work. Good for us. I think we should put our submissions online. We own them too. We signed away the rights for them to put them on Howardtv, but don't we still have ownership? Of course, that's only those of us that are on this board.

Howard thinks only 5 people are listening to him, and I think it's the 5 of us.

Good for us for seeing it through. We did our job. Now let's find a venue for ourselves (You tube?) and finish the job.....once everything is announced.

And I agree, the ones on youtube might not be up the caliber they were looking for, but you know what....they got seen.

do u know how much time it takes to schedule a film festival? Do u assholes ever stop bitching? Just be happy they're celebrating fan movies in one way or another, it's a good thing. 177 Hours 16 min & 42 seconds!
You would bitch too, if you were an ass hole.
What...I'm happy.

It's a given now that the final 8 have been contacted and have probably been sworn to secrecy. But what about the "runner up(s)".....how and when do they get notified? I think it's the users here that aren't speaking up that could possibly be finalists at this point. They are wearing a gag in their mouths and laughing there arses off at us whine.

Oh....more drama!I haven't been sworn to secrecy. In fact, i'm speaking up and i'm not laughing my arse off. Then again, I haven't been told i'm a final any thing. :o

With 2000+ entries making the final eight is a longshot as there has to be at least 50 quality films. Personally, top eight or not, I am anxious to hear what the finalists films are about and see how they compare to mine in content and quality.

I would have gladly paid an entry fee just to get some feedback from industry people and to know what kind of grade/score I got.

F-ing bravo! Those of us who entered should be proud of our work! Even the suck-ass ones on you tube (j/k). Not for nothin' but we DID step up to the plate. We gave Howard and his crew LOADS of material. I'm a NYC transplant (to the left coast), and wish that I got the call and was flown out to the festival. But you know what, I take a lot of pride in the fact that I got off my ass and at least entered something.

Anyway...good luck to us all. It would be nice to win...but it's even nicer to be involved!

Hey now!

Cheers!

When I made my film and wrote the script for it I pictured Howard or even sal and Richard who would understand the deep show references kick out of them.. It would have taken ten people working ten hour days two days to view every movie one time. That's without stopping, without writing notes. In the first round your film gets viewed by one of the screeners. If they don't like it. Your flick is dead. Who knows if the screeners even know the show well enough to decide what Howard Stern themes are. That was supposed to be the top thing they were looking for. Some film student that wouldn't know blue iris from a blue crayon. The point is this was supposed to be a fun thing for the fans to show Howard and DOug Cunstein made it something less. He made it Sundance. What a screw up

Exactly. My film used title cards at the beginning of the film to explain Henry Hill's recent revelation about being ass raped but the humor is lost on anyone who hasn't seen Brokeback Mountain or Goodfellas and is not aware of the discussions that Howard and crew had about these films over the past few years.

If some fucking prepubescent intern watched my film and didn't "get it," I'm officially pissed off.

Anywho....
