View Full Version : NFL adopts Michigan affirmative action, reverses playoff results
Fah Cue 01-21-2003, 07:38 AM It's Eagles v. Titans as NFL Reverses Playoff Results
(2003-01-20) -- The National Football League has reversed the results of yesterday's conference playoffs, clearing the way for a Super Bowl between the Tennessee Titans and the Philadelphia Eagles.
NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue said the game scores were reversed based on the same principal that the University of Michigan uses in admissions, granting extra "points" for black applicants.
Although the Oakland Raiders trounced the Titans 41-24 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Eagles 27-10, the quarterbacks of both conference-winning teams are white, and the QBs of both losing teams are black. Therefore, each team led by a black quarterback was granted 20 additional points, retroactively reversing the outcomes of both games.
Philadelphia won the NFC title 30-27 over Tampa Bay and the Titans upset the favored Oakland team 44-41.
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell will perform the coin toss at the Super Bowl.
Timmy 01-21-2003, 07:46 AM Yeah your right, theres no need for affirmative action. There is no racism any more! Why just look at the posts onthis message board.
I hear Bush wants to use the Yale affirnative action plan. It calls for an extra 1000 pts if you have a politically connected family.

Why didnt they blitz more? Johnson is a flat footed QB.
The Raiders will pummel him.
Nursegrrl8 01-21-2003, 09:02 AM Their admittance policy is ridiculous. They should do it by Academic merit and socioeconomic status NOT race!

Actually Fah Cue, the NFL is a perfect example of why there may need to be affimative action. You picked the wrong example to support your cause. There were two black head coaches in the NFL this last season, both made the playoffs. Art Shell has never had a losing season as a head coach yet he has never been offered another HC job after the Raiders let him go 10 years ago. June Jones has never had a winning season as a HC yet he has held this position with 2 different teams. Sherm Lewis was the OC for the Green Bay Packers during their Super bowl years. while he was never offered a a HC job, 5 other Packer assts, all of whom worked under him have been. Last year not one black coach was offered a HC job. Of the white coaches with previous HC experience who were offered these openings, not one had a winning season in there last stop. In the last 10 years the career winning percentage of black coaches in the NFL is almost 60%. Compare that to their white counter parts whose total is below 500.
As far as QB's, that is also a bad argument. There were 6 black starting Qb's in the NFL this last season. 3 of these QB's made the playoffs, which of course is half of them. There were 26 white starting QB's in the NFL of which 23% made the playoffs. Of the 3 black starters that didn't make the playoffs, 2 were A. Brooks & D. Culpepper. Their teams were ranked 1 & 2 in offense in the NFC, leading one to believe that they were not the problem.
Perhaps you should instead be examing why whites have been granted a version of affirmative action in the NFL for years.

I can see FahCue now....
Timmy 01-21-2003, 09:45 AM Dont forget Denny Green!!! I think he had a winning record nearly every year as the Vikings head coach. They fired him and replaced him with that big doofus unexperienced white guy. They were one of the worst teams this year.
Baseball is worse. Its seems like they have a pool of about 50 good old boys that they constantly hire, fire, and rehire.
