Do you think what happened to the Duke Lacrosse players was acceptable? They got their names ruined and the athletic careers of 40 kids were put on the back-burner because one girl lied about a rape and a prosecutor was overzealous.

Granted, there isn't as much at stake here and it seems to be a more solid set of facts with multiple witnesses and actual evidence (i.e. bruises from the actual attack). But Myers' wife posted his bail and is still supporting him. It is fairly obvious he's guilty of SOME crime, but there is a big difference between a slap or hair pull, and actually beating the shit out of her. Granted, one leads to another and no violent acts against anyone sans consent should be tolerated. But if he just slapped her, what would you really do to Myers---shoot him with a .357? That's ridiculous. Just leave him and take half of his money. ;)

I do think it was wrong to let him pitch the next day, but what is the alternative? Ban him from baseball or suspend him without an inquiry? That seems just as offensive, in my book. That also isn't the American way, especially when the suspect has money and is involved in a trade that possesses widespread societal demand.
