Dismal ratings put Rover in doghouse
It's over for Rover.
One of the biggest bombs in Chicago radio history -- the morning show hosted by Shane "Rover" French -- is about to be replaced by the New York-based syndicated duo of Gregg "Opie" Hughes and Anthony Cumia.
CBS Radio is expected to pull the plug today on "Rover's Morning Glory" after eight months of microscopic ratings on WCKG-FM (105.9), the "Free FM" talk outlet.
Although today will be his last day on the air in Chicago, French is expected to continue in about a dozen other markets, including his former home base of Cleveland.

Shane "Rover" French, who was imported from Cleveland to replace satellite-bound Howard Stern at WCKG last January, lasted an excruciating eight months and dragged the station down to its all-time lowest ratings before he was put down Monday.

kalidontx 08-01-2006, 09:22 PM anyone who did a parody song of Blink 182, should get fired... (only thing i ever heard was on the stern show, they played his Howard dont Go commercial)
also does anyone know how O&A did in the arb ratings?

sternaholics 08-01-2006, 09:26 PM o&a did better than roth but suprisingly not that well. Here in NY Roth had a 1.2 those cupcakes and 1.9. That's pretty bad, they will do better but probably max out at 3.5-4. Still way below Howie
sternfan73 08-01-2006, 09:26 PM just when you thought it was safe to turn on old boring radio.....

That's what I want to know??? What did the clones beat Rover and DLR by a .005 rating point to stick around and claim those markets? AND isn't Free-FM/CBS/Infinity (specifically NYC) in huge trouble leading to very recent layoffs isn't DIRECTLY related to the clones not providing the morning drive ratings launch pad? What's the difference between Adam Carolla's ratings and The Clones for Adam to not get Chicago?
Opie&Anthony are pure college radio amateur derivative dogshit and if you even listen to them briefly while changing or shaving you should be embarrassed to have a SS#.
Those WOW stickers are gayer than The Superfriends on Ice .
leahcim4625 08-02-2006, 04:30 AM does anyone give a shit about old fashion radio anymore? They all suck anyway, sirius satellite radio, don't leave home without it.
Tom from T.O. 08-02-2006, 08:01 AM It is still hard to believe that CBS thinks they can take an exisiting radio show, Rover, Carolla, etc. and throw it on a whole bunch of markets that Howard used to own, and expect the exisiting show to do well. If the show was so good, why didn't it beat Howard, why didn't it grow on it's own merit previously?
It's like putting Big Brother in the Survivor time slot and then expect Big Brother to get the same numbers as Survivor, what a dumb notion.
The only hope you would have is to come up with a great new show, loaded with talent, and hope it takes off in the same time slot, then you have a shot at eventually getting back the high ratings.
CBs is putting the cart before the horse.
O & A are eventually going to get fried in the competition of morning radio.

I dont think it will happen by adding Whoopi.

I think she has talent, but she won't be given the chance to grow the show. I'll bet they paid her alot and the show is expensive so they need an instant return, something she will never be able to pull off, only Howard has that kind of pull.
No wait, does that mean that Hollander is running out of options?
Maybe they'll hire Oprah, she could be their saviour.
