View Full Version : THINK the K-Rock tapes will show how weak the Sirius shows have been?

Since moving to Sirius, no longer needing ratings and basically having already earned his keep, Howard seems to be complacent with the satellite show. Back in the "golden years" 1991-1995, each one of Howard's show's outdid the one before - the writing was unbelievable: Out of the Closet Stern, Homo Room, Marge Schott, Sam Kineson/Jessica Hahn, the list goes on.

While Jackie was a dick on the air, he was a great writer along with Howard and Fred. The momentum of the show back then was the greatest. I think that when we start listening to what we heard back then and compare it to now, these redundant phoney phone calls, homo-erotic dick swinging (sal & richard) and silly song parodies.

I've been a listener since '81 - and a true fan - but I do miss the better writing back in the day.

The show is the best it's ever been now. In six months it'll be better than it was the first six and so on and so forth.

if you rate the two on pure laughs sirius has it hands down. I havent laughed so much in the last 8 months. I havent laughed like this since the first time I heard Debbie the Quifer!

don't be one of those old guys that says "back in the day it was great" bullshit

maybe you ment to say you miss the wiff of improper speech or howard trying to get away with words on the FCC regulated airwaves.

no doubt the show's been funnier than it has in recent years, but i think they put more time into creative sketches back then. now howard barely get's involved because he's got 2 channels to program. it misses his input for sure, right now all he seems to do it either approve or kill bits.

I've listened to many of those old shows, and I don't consider the Sirius shows at all weak by comparison.

Howard himself has acknowledged the difference. He doesn't want to "compete" with his old self by having a third, "oldies" station.

I agree, the show hasn't been this good since the late 80's to early 90's when they started restricting Howard more and more. I get annoyed at all the haters and O & A fans who say Howard is over. If I found O & A funnier or anyon else funnier, I would listen to them. Todays show with Cuba , Bigfoot and the phony phome calls to the public access show had me laughing out loud in my car. The show has been awesome, especially the last 3-4 months and worth every penny I pay for it.

That's your partisan spin. Howard simply said they didn't want to compete against themselves. It was no judgement of the relative quality of the shows, it was a concern about dillution from splitting the Stern audience up further.

Jackie's contribution to The Show will never be forgotten and we will enjoy hearing his writing contributions in the Tapes. That said, the best shining moments on The Tapes always come from Howard, in the end, it is Howard's magic.

The best Sirius shows done since the launch eclipse anything Howard ever did. It's the nature of the beast, Howard's career changed the face of radio so, ofcourse, the tapes will be total gold, but the best Sirius shows, they are on a different playing field. We are very lucky to have this five year golden era of Howard Stern. I can't wait for the tapes but it won't replace the Stern orgy going on live right now. Enjoy it and savour it because this moment isn't coming around again.

While I totally agree that the early 90s were a special time for the show & since I was in high school during the time it heightens the greatness even more. Listening to that shit when you're a teenager was hilarious. & I agree that Jackie's writing had a huge impact on the show & I wonder how much Artie contributes behind the scenes in writing bits.

Not that I'm trying to diss Artie cause what he adds onair is some of the funniest shit I've ever heard. He's the one that cracks me up the most.

I am a little over the Sal/Richard phony phone calls day after day after day. I'd love to see a shift in the focus from Sal & Richard's writing to Benji/Fred/Artie

ALL THAT SAID. The show on Sirius is a dream come true for fans. Its the show with no boundaries outside of the ethics of those on the show....this has been the best radio they have done in years.
