View Full Version : Leaked: Sirius Stiletto 100 - portable live radio
TScott1998 08-16-2006, 04:22 PM Sirius and XM are in a war which will likely ultimately kill one of them. Up to this point, XM has had a real advantage over Sirius on at least one front – Sirius hasn’t offered live satellite radio on the go when you are outside of your car, while XM has with the Inno and Helix. Sirius seems poised to narrow that gap with their new Stiletto 100.

Howard brought this point up on the show many weeks ago. The XM radios they're talking about are subject to reception problems and have not been thorughly developed enough. XM just wanted to get them out there whether they worked or not. Sirius is taking longer to get theirs out, but they are gonna work!
Xact used to make these headphones that plugged into the replay units, but it looks like they're no longer available. I dunno if it worked that good but at least that was a cheap mobile solution that was already out there
moodmd 08-16-2006, 04:58 PM They've got to do better than $400. You know the first ones out of the gate will have problems too.

i just dont dig that live play is only 4 hours with the battery......thats not even a full STERN SHOW. :(
Izzy-telecom 08-16-2006, 05:03 PM Picture of the new Sirius Stiletto 100. Will sell for about $399. The new unit also has PlayForSure (recording/pausing capabilities).
I feel like a sucker for buying the S50.

I really doubt this will get any better coverage than an XM device. The hardware only has so much to do with it. Unless you’re out under open sky or near a repeater, reception will be problematic and XM has more repeaters. The Wi-Fi is a cool feature, but I wonder how widely usable it will be in actual practice.
norton 08-16-2006, 05:11 PM no worries
how was the hangover dude? i was sitting right behind you at the levy show

Thats a very good point, they are going to have to do something about battery life.
JablesKG 08-16-2006, 05:21 PM If they can prove to me that this unit can work behind thick walls in an office building then i'm buying it!
billyinlasvegas 08-16-2006, 06:12 PM Whaa I can only listen to 4 hours, whaaa!
Check this out it's a scan from Crutchfield's latest catalog
SIRIUS BACKSTAGE (http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86160)
They say it's going to ship with 2 bateries that can be charged at the same time and if you use it in WiFi mode you can get up to 14 hours of playback or if you listen to a prerecorded show it can last as much as 22 hours!
Also the original Ipod sold for $400 and those things flew off the shelf, oh by the way did I mention it works as an MP3 player too. You can mix your private song collection with songs that the unit has recorded from SIRIUS.
Honestly it doesn't get much better than this.
GeorgeM 08-16-2006, 06:13 PM I'm in... where do I sign?
havoc 08-16-2006, 06:15 PM im definately gunna get me one of these. its baller that they come with 2 batterys at least. an i red they come with headphones that gotta antenna built into da top which really help with reception n shit.
timberman73 08-16-2006, 06:28 PM it looks like a tighter version of the s50
black_eagle 08-16-2006, 06:39 PM damn i want that damn thing bad
Swoop 08-16-2006, 07:08 PM West coast people luckily don't need these lame gadgets. I have the entire show on my ipod by 9am.
I use harddiskogg to record the show then create a simple podcast that itunes subscribes to. It is all automated.
Like Tivo for Howard, and I can take it anywhere. You can get a 1gig nano for $149 that will hold a week's worth of shows.
And the best part is you can fast forward.

wtango 08-16-2006, 07:23 PM NO WAY at the $399 price!
Here's 2 BIG reasons:
1. Internet streaming
2. Three replays a day
SIRIUS would have sold millions if they released the Stiletto before the replays and streaming started!!! They shot themselves in the foot with the VERY delayed release of this device.
I listen at home. And at work. The only time I'm without the show is on my 1-hour ride on the bus to work. And I can catch that missing 1-hour at least 3 times on replay.
Redneck Ron 08-16-2006, 07:31 PM It reminds me of the monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
