View Full Version : Problems with Stiletto 100
GonzoT 11-17-2006, 09:10 PM I have two complaints so far for the Stiletto 100
1) Radio Replays only records Music BUT not talk or sports.
This Sucks! I want it to record talk especially Howard
2) You cannot record Internet Radio.
This really sucks!! Again I want to record Howard as I listen to it.
Why are these restrictions in place on this unit?

If it doesn't record the show it's worthless to me. Nobody has ever said that before.

1. Incorrect! You can easily record music, sports, and talk channels using scheduled recordings. To record Howard Stern, just program the Stiletto for a scheduled recording of the Howard Stern Show. It's easy and you can record upto 6 hours. Also, when you play it back and stop it, or change out the battery, it remembers where you left off so you don't have to fast-forward to that same location. You can just continue from where you stopped previously. I record Howard everyday, and so does every other fan with a Stiletto.
2. You cannot record via the WiFi connection with the Stiletto because Sirius does not have a licensing agreement that allows recording from the internet, only from the Satellite signal directly. Of course, there are many other ways of recording the internet stream. People do it all the time. To record inside a building, home or office, you will need the Stiletto dock with an antenna and/or a clear view of the skies so you can pick up the satellite signal directly. Otherwise, you'll need software to record the channels directly from the internet stream (i.e. Sirius Internet Radio) on you PC.
I haven't found any limits with the Stiletto. It's by far the best receiver yet, the most versatile, the most stable, and the most user friendly. The reviews have been outstanding

Yep This is the best device yet...BLOWS the s50 and Replay away...Go to scheduled recordings in the main menu and set it up to record every morning from 6 a.m. to noon.
Just for an example of how folks use it...
I leave mine in the home dock during the day - (Home dock is a must have, worth every penny and it charges both batteries simultaneously). I listen to the stream here and there during the day on pc while working...
After work, pop the stiletto out and fast forward around to the parts of the show I missed or want to hear again.
As mentioned above a GREAT feature, if you pause the replay, you can put the device to sleep - spend time with the family or whatever, then when you wake it up it remembers exactly where you were....
As for the Internet stream...well that is just gravy. Can use that to listen to anything live if you are in the house out of the dock where sat reception is bad.
Anyway...It rawks
This case is a "must have" too...belt clip and armband

Pete From PA 11-18-2006, 07:31 AM As noted, you can easily record The Show via a scheduled recording or by holding the 'Love' button down and telling it to record the remainder of the show. RTFM.
For internet stream recording, I purchased Replay A/V (Google it, biotches), which works fine for Sirius and XM streams, as well as just about anything else you can imagine.
The leather case with the magnetic flip cover and belt clip from TSS Radio is a bargain at $25. High-quality case, free shipping. Highly-recommended.
I also purchased the home dock, primarily to make recording a breeze and make sure both of my batteries are fully charged for the day. The FM transmitter in it is a joke (get more than 3-4 feet away from it, and you lose signal), but the fact that I can schedule recordings of, for example, Riley Martin from midnight to 1 AM on Tuesday nights, then just pop the Stiletto into the dock and get some zzzzs makes it worth the $70 to me.
I'm lovin' the Stiletto. If you want to read my full review of the unit, click here (http://www.sternfannetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=4819773#post4819773).

thanks for putting the time into all these reviews.
I have had it with the S50 lag and no way to easily get back to where I left off. Can't wait to get the Stiletto. Will put the S50 in a car and leave it there.
Fa-Fa-Fo-Ha 11-18-2006, 10:57 PM 2. You cannot record via the WiFi connection with the Stiletto because Sirius does not have a licensing agreement that allows recording from the internet, only from the Satellite signal directly.
I can see that happening with the music channels but what about Howard or any other programming that is actually owned by Sirius? I don't see why they wouldn't let you record it off the internet stream. Just sayin.
MadMax 11-18-2006, 11:18 PM I have a Stiletto and no repeater within 10 miles of my home.
Reception is horrible.
I am returning it .
jlaplant 11-19-2006, 09:00 AM I have good reception on my starmate so if I get a stiletto shouldn't the reception on that be good too ?
ArtiesFinger 11-19-2006, 09:28 AM I bring mine to work, plug it in with the A/C adapter, set the recording time for six hours, put it on the window sill (the internal antenna pulls three bars in Brooklyn) and I have the show for my train ride home. this process makes listening to the stern show on the go a breeze.

If you don't have reception inside your home, you will need either the home craddle with an exterior antenna, or an internet connection with WiFi and use the WiFi receiver built into the Stiletto inside your home. It works great!

It should. But you won't know for sure until you try it. You can always return it.
GonzoT 11-19-2006, 06:10 PM Another problem I discovered today some connections to WiFi are not simple.
Some have restricted access by MAC address
Stilletto also does not support a connection through networks which require a user name or account number to be entered.
Also Networks with multiple access points that utilize the same SSID (repeater or roming mode) are not supported .
Also the SSID can be be hidden and must be unhidden (broadcast) in order for the stiletto to detect and connect to the network.
(These are all spelled out on page 40 of the Stilletto 100 manual
Good Luck if you are not a tech wizard
Fa-Fa-Fo-Ha 11-19-2006, 09:58 PM Here is another question:
With the Stiletto could I record one channel while listening to another?
got1toburn 11-24-2006, 10:56 AM Should i get one??? i asked for Xmas... and wife might gittir done.
Is it a good idea???
Virgin Surgeon 11-24-2006, 01:41 PM Gonzo...are you an O&A Assclown in disguise? You are complaining about the Stiletto 100 and you complained about the S50. You responded with a " blah blah" after someone ripped on Opie & Gaylord. Followed by an "I hate when Howard is on vacation" comment. A comment on how long it takes for HTV to get up new content and all the rest of your comments are 1 word posts including..."thanks", "cool", "ok", and "whatever".
Whats going on with you?
Sorry.....I have alot of free time right now.
sugareedp3 12-01-2006, 09:27 AM I just purchased the Stiletto and have only one major complaint. The only way for it to be portable while listening to Howard live is to use the headset/antenna that came with it. Unfortunately, the way they built the headset is extremely uncomfortable and my ears are killijng me after like 5 minutes.
Does anyone else have this problem? Are there any solutions (like buying something cushionie somewhere to put over the ear thingies?)
Pete From PA 12-01-2006, 09:43 AM You can probably pick up some covers for the ear bud portion of the Sirius headphones at a record store (FYE) or on the internet. At best, they require some getting used to. At worst, you'll want to stick a shovel through your sinus cavities. I guess it all depends on the configuration of your ears.

Covered this about a month ago .
