View Full Version : Concerns from an fan/investor.
toobstake 11-30-2006, 12:17 AM Well here it is- Xmas. The time of year when companies pull in a large percentage of their revenue and all the Best Buys etc. are out of Sirius radios.
At first I thought this was a good thing, but the clerk informs me that they are unable to receive adequate product shipments from the supplier. This is the second Xmas season that the stores have been understocked. I went to the Sirius web site to buy some sweatshirts (walking billboards) to give out as gifts. OUT OF STOCK... Just in time for Xmas.
I was in my truck with a friend who I was bragging about my Sirius radio too. We're listening and the signal is cutting out CONSTANTLY. After a while he says, "Can we just listen to the regular radio?"
Look, I'm not a business professor, but it seems like a weird way to run a business.
LongShoreman 11-30-2006, 11:45 AM Sirius has serious issues in areas that don't have heavy repeater coverage. Their satellite signal is much worse than XM due to its technology. Sirius is planning to launch a new satellite in the near future which will help a great deal.
TSS Taylor 11-30-2006, 07:05 PM Stilettos are likely to be out as well as Starmate 4s because those are the ones dealers/retailers can order months in advance and not know/get any on any guaranteed time.
If a store is out of Sportster 3s, Sportster 4s, Stratus', then it's simply from not being organized themselves.
But getting products in like the Stiletto is a daunting task. It's not like a retailer can place an order for them and then simply wait until they come out, it's far more time consuming and complex than that.
It's funny though how some will analyze being sold out of radios as a positive and others as a negative.
nicksgt 11-30-2006, 08:17 PM i bought a sportster as a gift for someone in october and she hates it..constant signal problems where she lives and the fucking suction cup keeps falling off her windshield

I live in Los Angeles. I would hope the repeater coverage would be adequate because of all the potential customers.
badshirt 12-01-2006, 07:48 PM I live just north of Philly and my signal rarely ever cuts out. There also seems to be stock in the stores.

Cool. I'm glad it's not everywhere.
abaleme 12-01-2006, 11:40 PM I was at Costco today and they have a full set-up radio (car dock, home dock, the works) for 149.99. There were probly couple hundred set out and two were taken from the display. I was glad to see the display...
cheeze tits 12-02-2006, 06:36 AM If your friend is having signal problems, it may be the unit. I live in Providence and have a Stiletto with no drop outs. However, 3 weeks ago I was still using my 2 year old X-Act that dropped out constantly. My wife uses a 2006 x-act and has absolutely no problems.

I have both Sirius and XM, no repeaters anywhere near me. My Sirius signal is almost always better than my XM signal.

Being out of product is never a good thing--especially in a business that relies on subscriptions. It's piss poor forecasting by Sirius.

I live near Sacramento which is one of the fastest growing parts of the state and the reception is sketchy because there aren't enough repeaters. The reception in San Francisco is far better---even in tunnels.

I hear San Fran. is very progressive when it comes to technology. A friend told me the whole city is a hot spot.

Damn, I dropped XM for Sirius when Howard came on, my XM signal was infinitely better and stronger than my Sirius signal in all conditions.
sjollypbj 12-02-2006, 05:47 PM I live in a cave just outside Translyvania and my signal sucks. . .blood. ahahahaha

I don't know where you guys are driving. The moon? I took a trip this summer from cleveland to florida and only lost signal a handfull of times. This was on a cheap serious one not mounted correctly with he antena hanging out the sunroof.
Diesel-Mechanic 12-14-2006, 07:39 PM Perhaps I can help some of you out here.....
I have a few handy links for those with PNP (plug N play) radios.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sportster-Replay-Starmate-Streamer-FM-Transmitter-Ant_W0QQitemZ250060839528QQihZ015QQcategoryZ60205Q QcmdZViewItem
This item very often fixes the problem with FM transmitter radios.
I would also like to state to some of thos that have posted to this thread allready....
Older, "CHEAP" radios as they put it, aren't cheap per say...in alot of cases they are better....newer radios have less FM transmitter power due to the FCC makin tem cut it back....I have a 2 yar old XACT Visor that was only 29.95 and it is the best performing radio I have....n mny ways its better than my new SL100.
Anyon need help with a radio feel free to email me at slitterman426@yahoo.com...only wa to ge me till I'm a full member here.
toobstake 12-16-2006, 10:04 AM Update- The stores in my area have plenty of radios and the web site has re-stocked the sweatshirts.
suncrafter 12-16-2006, 08:14 PM I can understand the problem they had the first year - but two years in a row?
btriplep 12-18-2006, 07:02 PM I live in Cincy. I like Sirius for Howard, but my old XM signal was better. If I drive under a bridge for a second, my signal cuts out.
Diesel-Mechanic 12-18-2006, 07:33 PM I live in a cave just outside Translyvania and my signal sucks. . .blood. ahahahaha
COME TO THE BURG AND SUCK THIS LOL
Sorry had to do that
detrichpix 12-20-2006, 10:07 AM I live in Ohio, not near any repeaters, and I have NEVER lost signal, my friend has an XM and we lost the signal more than had it in the great plains last spring. Remember this itechnology is still in in the beginning stages, like tivo was years ago, WiFi, a few years ago, we are in on the cutting edge here with Sirius!!!

The Stiletto was just named the DUD of the year by Men's Style magazine. I can see why, it is the oddest looking thing out there. I can see it now; $79.00 within 6 months. So glad I returned this junk, and opted for the improved S50 for $79.00, and pocketed $270.00!

KingOfAllWhites 12-20-2006, 02:37 PM What the fuck is mens style magazine? Never heard of it.
P.S My Sirius sweatshirt just arrived yesterday and it is SWEEEEEEEET!

Excuse the Kingofallwhites...he's been under a rock for a while
pluckinstrings 12-21-2006, 12:22 AM I am not getting all the coverage issues either. I live in the Seattle area and travel frequently over the cascades et cetera. I never have signal issues and if and when it starts to get static I just go to a different preset station and get clear signal again.
I also have the home unit which works great. I think that Sirius could beef up the TV ads though. I've seen a few, but not many compared to XM (blasphemy).
