View Full Version : Radios should come activated!
Slayer 12-12-2006, 01:28 PM Some people complain about the hassle of signing up and the problems of giving Sirius as a gift because of it. My cousin got Sirius as a gift last xmas and has still NOT hooked it up because of the "hassle". Yes, he's a dumb ass, but I'll bet others are in the same situation. I think all sirius radios should come pre-activated with one month's subcription.
That way you buy it, plug it in, and you're listening, done deal pal. After a month, after they've gotten addicted, then make them sign up and pay. It would be a good marketing aspect, "plug and play".
Fa-Fa-Fo-Ha 12-12-2006, 03:54 PM I agree, even AOL offered the first month free, and that was back in the days when they nearly had a monopoly on internet access. They hooked almost everybody that way.
LongShoreman 12-12-2006, 06:07 PM Way back when I used to have XM, they offered the radio already activated when it arrived at your door. No fees, no activation, no hassle. It was really nice. Sirius should offer that as well.
Dr. T. Sanchez 12-12-2006, 11:56 PM So then Sirius could claim all those radios as active and FINALLY surpass XM!!
And then there's the theft aspect......easier to steal and have it already active than having to call in with a stolen radio to have activated.

Sirius will activate a stolen radio, they dont care. They will flatly refuse to permanantly disable a stolen radio.

Hey, every subscription counts! :D
Slayer 12-16-2006, 10:20 AM Notice that when Howard gave away the free radios on Letterman they came pre-activated. Howard even said something to the effect of "so people don't have to deal with the hassle of getting them activated".
Get the point Sirius?
nicksgt 12-16-2006, 05:54 PM its such a hassle that i got a new sportster today and it took me a 3 minute phone call to deactivate my s50 and activate this one
funk5stacks 12-17-2006, 09:12 AM Sirius will activate a stolen radio, they dont care. They will flatly refuse to permanantly disable a stolen radio. are you kidding? now that is gay. wonder if they'll at least locate it.

As I understand.....Sirius (or for that matter XM) radios have no way to be tracked.

yeah, they should come pre-activated so that when they fall off the truck people will still be able to use them.

Just curious....but what maks youbelieve they can be tracked. A device needs to have a transponder, transmitter, or repeater in it to be able to be tracked.
Of the 7 Sirius radios I have either opened to check out, repair, or modify; none of them had these required items which would enable tracking.

It's enough of a percieved hassle that some people haven't yet activated their radios, and others avoid giving them as gifts because of that percieved hassle.
Lets face it, most audio equipment only needs to be plugged in and turned on to work.
Froggy 12-21-2006, 06:24 PM Sirius radios should come with an anti-theft device, something like a LoJackie ;)

What would you pay for one with LOJACK?
Do you realize LoJack is also a pay service, and not exactly cheap; radios would need to be bigger and more expensive.
Spize 12-23-2006, 01:16 AM Satellite TV didn't start to rake in the money until they gave the basic boxes away for free and gave a promo for the first couple months... try it!
