- Sirius & XM merged this week and everyone is wondering what the hell does this mean to the fans? Basically, do you think it’s a good thing? What are the benefits? the drawbacks?

GUESTS OF THE SHOW: This is an office and you are expected to be on your best behavior. It's not some free for all party. You shouldn't do anything that you would do when stopping by the bank. You cannot bring alcohol, take off your clothes, make noise, or bother the employees & celebrities. I know you are a Stern fan but we're not out at the bar. You need to be cool. Don't stop them and ask for an autograph or photo. Every time one of you misbehaves, i get a new rule to follow.

You can not bring any friends and you need to bring your ID. If I don't put you on the list and you don't have your ID, you will not be able to get in.

You can not walk around Sirius. You will be escorted from the upstairs lobby to the studio and back out. Do not take it upon yourself to just walk around & check things out. Nobody is allowed to stop by other shows. DO NOT stop by Ferrall's studio under any circumstances even if you think it's OK. I've been told by management that it's not. If you'd like to be a guest on Ferrall, they need to put you on their guest list.

All plugs must be approved in advance. If you are going to be on the show and you have something to plug, you need to let me know the day before.

You may take photos in the studio only. Do not take pictures in the halls or lobby.

I approve of the "spotlight" concept only because as a longtime fan, I've heard most of the MTT shows.

Spotlighting allows them to cover a wide array of material with one performer/guest, along with reminiscing. And that part of the content makes it "new," as opposed to just best of (with Allison material edited out of course).

More subscribers should mean lower prices, but it won't.

Part of the problem I have with the merger is that I felt like being a Sirius subscriber was really something special. We KNEW that we were getting better quality programming than XM subscribers.

I feel like they just didn't think about the business model very well and both companies WAY overestimated the popularity of the satellite radio medium.

My guess would be that their revenue and operating costs are still not favorable.

Part of the problem I have with the merger is that I felt like being a Sirius subscriber was really something special. We KNEW that we were getting better quality programming than XM subscribers.

I feel like they just didn't think about the business model very well and both companies WAY overestimated the popularity of the satellite radio medium.

The growth rate was really strong throughout the year, but it has leveled out. The amount that Sirius has spent on developing their programming and acquiring subscribers has not produced a strong enough return for investors.

As of right now, yes. If things had kept going another few months or a year, Sirius would have been the dominant player in the satellite industry. But they gave up.

It seems so. Most people I know listen to regular radio. The idea of paying for radio freaks a lot of people out. I say that if the FCC hadn't barged in, I might be listening to regular radio, too. So I see that it still hasn't reach a lot of people, except maybe in their cars.
