I live in Sarasota and go to alot of Reds games, so went to todays game and I have to say I am pretty impressed with Dice-K. I am no fan of anything Boston and love the Mets and Yanks, and I even bashed Boston for wasting that money on him.. but after seeing him throw today I would say that Boston got a great deal and the kid will do really well for years. Plus he doesnt have that American ego shit that alot of guys have, he really has his shit together and Rockets is hot!!

He should do pretty well in the begining UNTIL, MAJOR LEAGUE hitters figure him out!

He was up against the Reds A team, and had them eating from his palms.. the movement on his pitches is nuts. But I hope they figure him out and the red sox get stuck with his contract.. but it really doesnt look like that at all.

Yeah but the Reds A team(no offense) is not really that good! He will be pitching in the AL East all year against a few good lineups!

Oh, I didn't know we had a professional scout on SFN. So, based on your evaluation, how many games should the CY Young of Japan win this year?

Was about to say the same thing.

Your jealousy is showing once again. :funny:

Who is he jealous of? A team with a pitcher who has never thrown a pitch in the major leagues? A pitcher whose work ethic is going to be raped and stripped to an American work ethic, thus rendering him useless? (Read the SI article, prick)

I would want him, and I sure don't want Igawa on my team either.

Japanese pitchers may have one or two good-very good seasons in them. Soon, they fall back to earth. Just look at the history of jap pitchers in MLB.

100 millions dollars for one, maybe two good years? You can have him.

I was all laughs with him too, until today when I saw him in action and he wasnt even 100% on. Im not saying he's going to win the cy young this year and have 400ks and 30 wins. Just that he is THAT good and the Sox made a wise investment.

He pitched 5 hitless innings today...not bad considering it's spring training.

WTF the guy can't make an honest assesment without getting bashed? You might think the guy compared himself to Mariano for christ sake. He may not be a professional scout( one of the requirements for posting on Ferrall ), but his opinion has been backed up so far by everyone who has seen Matsuzaka pitch.

So a guy comes on this site and gives an opinion on what he saw today and how he feels about a player and gets ripped. I am not saying he is right, but I don't believe he made any predictions about the guy. Just that he thought he dealt a good game. The only people making predictions are the ones ripping his opinion.

Oh and by the way, most "scouts" believe he will do just fine and win 15-17 games this year. Even if he has a mediocre year he can win 12-14 with that offense.

HE JUST SAID BOSTON GOT A GREAT DEAL FOR 103 MILLION AND HE WILL DO WELL FOR YEARS...to me, that is an unrealistic prediction...

And please NAME those scouts because those same scouts say Provano will win 15 + as well, what is your point?

It is pretty funny how jealous Yankee fans are in this thread. Cashman was asleep and underbid on Matsuzaka....something that never happens to the Yanks, and now the kid looks like an ace and Nuge and Dave can't handle it.

Kei Igawa’s line this spring: 17 13 5 5 12 19

Daisuke Matsuzaka’s line this spring: 17.2 9 5 4 7 19

Now I know one guy is the greatest pitcher ever and the other guy is a No. 5 starter. But comparing those statistics is pretty interesting.

Oh, and Matsuzaka cost $103 million and Igawa $46 million.

Yanks were 3rd or 4th in bidding for this stain, THANK GOD we didn't get him, he will be a bust, mark my words kids..............That fat fuck is going to faint on the mound facing that lineup

elroyjonz
03-26-2007, 09:09 PM
Opposing hitters are raving about Dice-K. If your team thought he was a stain they never would have bid on him. They were asleep at the wheel on the price.

Jap pitchers cannot handle the American game. At most, history has shown us that a Jap pitcher can have maybe 2 good seasons and then he comes right back to earth. I'm actually upset that the Yanks got Igawa. I don't want his ass because hitters will figure him out, much like Matsuzaka.

Maybe he'll have a good to great year this year. Good, congratulations. But he'll see too many batters that he will get figured out. His fastball is straight as an arrow.

Matsuzaka's whoel world is going to change. His practice sessions, his work ethic; did any of you read that great article on him in SI? I have a lot of respect for him, but he's not Jesus. He's not Clemens. He's not Johnson. He's a Jap who is going to get rocked.

Or a washed up Andy Pettite

Washed up?

Over 200 innings each of the past two seasons?
31 wins over the past two seasons?
349 strikeouts over the past two seasons?
2.39 era in 2005, 2.80 era second half of 2006?

I don't think that's washed up.

Will he be dominating in making the transition back to the AL? Maybe not. But he's a damn serviceable pitcher with plenty of experience and he has enough good stuff to get him through.

Because other Japanese pitchers have not had great success, nor will he......Thats great logic.
How many times have you faced him to know his fastball doesn't move?

So now people are basing there conclusions on a guy about what they read in SI. Maybe the guy doesn't pan out, maybe he does. So far he has passed all the tests.

And the Yankees spending wisely, that's funny. Aren't they still paying Kevin Brown?

Daisuke got a little taste of adversity today after breezing through Boston College and the Florida Marlins. The Orioles managed to go deep on him twice, including a 3rd inning blast on a straight fastball down the heart of the plate by Jon Knott and another deep shot off a similarly flat and centered pitch in the 4th by Jason DuBois. Neither of those players is a quality Major League batter, but in the Major Leagues even the fringe player can launch a fat fastball into orbit. Welcome Mr. Matsuzaka.

courtesy of http://matsuzaka.blogspot.com/

His fastball is straight as an arrow.

And now, elroy, go ahead and name me a japanese pitcher who has had more than two successful MLB season?

Kayotic1
03-27-2007, 11:17 AM
Okay so he can't name a couple of Japanese pitchers that have done well Matsuzaka can't be a good pitcher. And I would argue that Nomo did. He had 3 16 win season and a career record of 123-120 with 1,915 strikeouts.

Under your theory since Matsui and Ichiro are good hitters then so are all Japanese hitters?

ST doesn't mean much, but he has looked impressive. I don't think he will dominate, but I think a 15 win 3.5-3.7 era season isn't out of reach.

Well well well, look what we have here, another e-tough guy....

Would I want the Yanks to spend 103 million on a guy who never threw a pitch in MLB, or would I rather they spend that on an ace like, say Santana? You tell me?

Well, I think us Yankee fans have a lot to say about how much the Sox have been spending, up to 160 MILLION, since their owners call the Yankees the Evial Empire because we spend so much, well look who is cracking out the stratch, just a season too late Sox fans..........sorry, no playoffs for the 2nd year in a row for the sox........

The guy is overpaid nobody can deny that. However with all this media attention he is getting from the US and Japan to would think they would be able to make some money off of him. I'm talking about this year I think eventually he could be a 20 win guy, but I wouldn't say in his first year. Nobody really knows what he will do. We will only know if he is worth the money until he faces the Yankees in October with the pennant on the line.
