Not only that, but Howard has a firm grip on the reins of the show and wouldn't run with statements like those that Opus and Bill's homeless guy made. He'd probably say something like, "Oh, now, we can't condone that" or something to that effect.

"The fact of the matter is", Howard doesn't feel the need to let every guest or caller run away with the show just because it might be funny. O&A can "Tell 'em Fred" all they want, but he did create this style of radio, and he has an innate sense of where the line is. They're clearly still in a place mentally where they think they have something to prove, so they'll evidently let their show get out of control if they think it'll get them noticed on some level. It's lazy radio.

Here's the real deal for those of you outside the radio business.

Opie & Anthony got suspended for 1 month from CBS radio and XM. Not for the unfunny stupid skit about raping and beating up Mrs. Bush and Ms. Rice.

CBS Radio is changing formats on all FREE FM stations around the country. The ratings suck and no one is listening. O & A have already been dropped from 4 markets. JV and Elvis (10am to 2pm show) have already been fired. This gives CBS an excuse to fire them next month.

Why?

92.3 FREE FM in New York and 94.1 FREE FM in Philadelphia will change formats on July 1, 2007 to all music stations. No talk, all music to try to bring up ratings and compete with Sirius and XM .

More people in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia have Sirius and XM than any other part of the country. Sirius has almost 1 million of its 7 million subscribers in NY, NJ, and PA alone.

Now for the XM / Sirius side. Congress will approve the XM / Sirius merger in mid-June. Sirius's lineup is stronger than XM and the Sirius stations will stay. 75 commicerial free music stations , Howard Stern, Bubba the Love Sponge, Jay Thomas, Dee Snider, Andy Dick, Scott Ferall, Martha Stewart, NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAA, NASCAR, ect. MLB will be on Sirius by the end of the year.

Sirius will most likly drop XM's Opie & Anthony from it's lineup because of Howard Stern and his power.

The wheels have been set in motion for this all to happend. Don't believe all the BS you hear. You'll see by the end of the summer.

Switching to music is a bad idea, IMO. Who really listens to the radio (besides Sirius or XM) for music? Talk radio is the only thing terrestrial radio has going for them. All music stations usually suck on terrestrial because they play the same crap over and over again.

you couldn't be more right. the problem isn't limited to new york though, its a nationwide problem. terrestrial radio was ruined when they fired dj's and local program managers and replaced them with nationwide formats with preprogrammed playlists and hired announcers. if i want to hear classic rock or top ten pop, i can listen pull out my ipod and not have to listen to commercial after commercial.

there's only one way terrestrial radio can save itself at this point. hire local talent who knows the music scene and is on the cutting edge of new music. offer the same (or better) kind of variety of music that satellite offers. there will be plenty of people willing to sit through the commercials to avoid the monthly subscription fee. but with the way the clear channels of the world think, i wonder if that has a snowball's chance in hell of ever happening.

TR is fucking awful music. In Cincinnati, there is like, 3 rock stations. One that's hits, mix of classic and newer stuff, one that's mainly newer and alternative, and one that's classic rock. Why can't they just specify to a higher degree? Who the fuck is really listening for them to broaden their demographics like that? Shit, make one that's just metal, one that's just punk, one that's just alternative, one each for everything else(R&B, hits, hip-hop) and hope people will find their niche and listen. You can't get too many people really listening to terrestial radio anymore unless their hand is forced(no CD/mp3 player, driving)

CBS has officialy said they will remain on the air. The rumour floating around SFN is that they will get canned by CBS today but that is simply from what a few have posted here at SFN.

The funny thing is, even if they aren't fired, to most people it seems like they are. They were in the process of trying to build an audience but a lot of those "potential listeners" may just stop paying attention because think they are fired - so they might as well be.

0.0 were pissed about being temporarily replaced for 2 weeks when they went on vacation. Try being replaced for 1 month!

I actually hope this isn't true. I don't want all 75 of Sirius's shit music and talk stations to stay. Howard 100 and NFL Radio 124 during the NFL season is the only thing listenable on Sirius. Adding MLB would help but the rest is pure garbage. I wanted this merger because I've heard some of XM's music channels through a free trail before I got Sirius and loved them. I would subcribe to XM in a heartbeat if it wasn't for Stern. Also I was hoping to be able to hear Ron & Fez on Sirius.
