Bob was great, fuck off. Someone on SFRT hit it on the head last night when they noted that roasts are better when you are, in actuality, HONORING the roastee via the insult gags. There's little to no positive feelings about people like Andy Dick, Ralph and Daniel Carver (the three worst roasts, IMHO). That was the problem this week.

I agree. Hack comedians invent physical comedy or controversial events to avoid criticism that their basic comedy sucks.

IMO The Artie Roast was the best because it was done at night and it was one of the shows big members. People were looser and drunk and it was hillarious. There should be just three more roasts. Fred, then Robin, then Howard. Do a double show on Thursday ( The roast show at night) Have a random drawing via Howards website for a wide variety of fans to get in. I think that would be the best bet for more entertaining roasts in the future, though I'm not sure Robin or Howard will ever agree to be roasted..they both have very thin skin.

This roast was not Bob Levy's fault. There were three principal reasons that it did not work. The subject (Andy Dick - chosen by the show - not Bob), the lackluster crowd, and, I feel, the lack of prepardness by the comedians (which led to the lackluster crowd). I think these guys got a little cocky or too comfortable with the format and were not into the subject and did not devote the time to preparing killer jokes for this event. Add in the appearant censorship (notice the tension when Sal mentioned a certain name) and you have a failed event.

Bob did a fine job with what he had to work with and was one of the best roasters on the dais.

Honestly, they should have called this roast what it really was "Robin Quivers Roast"

I think she hides and deflects it better, but you can tell it upsets her. I think a barrage of insults aimed at her might send her off the edge.

It's tough to have a funny roast at 8am and without a shitload of drinking first. Roasts are best when there's a party atmosphere, and it was anything but at that early in the morning. That caused the crowd to be leukwarm, which caused all the neurotic roasters to freak out and lose their rhythm, which caused the crowd to be even less enthusiastic, and so on. It also didn't help that roasting Andy Dick is a 2-trick pony, you're either going to do gay jokes or junkie jokes, and who hasn't heard both a million times at every roast Dick has attended?

There's a reason that some of the funniest parts of the roast were when Howard and Robin caught some heat, because those are the two people who should be getting roasted all along. The more Howard avoids sitting in the hotseat, and the more he protects "his" Robin from doing the same, the worse these roasts will get. At the very least, if Howard and Robin aren't willing to be roasted, they at least need to keep them in-house and only roast show staffers, but even then there aren't too many more people on the show that the fans care about hearing get roasted.

Bob did good. He was funnier than Artie & every blind fucking sheep thinks Arties funny & he didn't do to well. Yucko was funnier than him as well on THIS Roast. Can't blame this on Bob. Bob just got comedians together that he THOUGHT would be creative enough to come up with jokes to make us laugh. It's not HIS fault that a lot of these guys didn't come through or just didn't work on new material.

Maybe it would have been better for the group to laugh like crazy at jokes that were not that funny. I was really looking forward to it but for some reason it was just not good. Blaming the audience is pretty weak imho. Either something is funny or it is not. Had the audience been laughing a lot, I would have still been wondering what was going on. It is just hard to make up new jokes for so many roasts.

Howard doesn't pay the comics. They should pay him. Their appearances are like million dollar ad compaigns. Exposure on the show is a meal ticket for months of work. Unless, of course they bomb, like Rev. Bob. :)

Howard invented the roast in which all outside performers are working for free. In general, you get what you pay for. Then again, Howard doesn't care because he is making about $1500 per minute just sitting there listening to it and making an occasional comment or forced laugh.

The subscriber is paying about 25 cents to hear it. I have paid 100 times more to hear a bad hour or two of comedy at a club.

When you think about it, its a win-win situation for Howard and his listeners. He gets rich and we get cheap live insult comedy during morning drive.
