Melendez is replacing Edd Hall, who decided to leave the program after 12 years to pursue a career in acting. This is big news for Howard's show. I have to admit, I started listening to Howard partly because my Dad is a big fan but also because I laughed at Stuttering John's funny interviews on Howard's Channel 9 show when i was in high school.

I can't say as I blame SJ for covering his ass. I would hate living by the dictates of Howard who always says he is leaving. Not a really secure feeling. Although, come to think of it, he is just an intern who never left! Just heard Regis Philbin talking about it. I will kind of miss John stirring up trouble :(

I am sure that Howard and John have talked this over and that John has made him well aware of the dealings going on. No matter how much of a dick Howard is to John, John would not stab Howard in the back and do this without telling him. Howard gave John his start back in the day and John should be greatful for that. Also, as a poster brought up previously, Howard is saying that he will be gone in two years....now, if you went to your job and you heard your boss saying that the company will be gone in two years what would you do? I wouldn't sit around..that is for sure. John has a chance for a long time job, he should take this for life stability.

John was/is a glorified phone screener and part time writer for the stern show. Now, he will be on the top late-night talk show in the country....coming fro the top morning show in the country.

I see the announcer part having more of an active role on Leno's everyday show. Street interviews, skits, maybe talking to the audience...

IMHO, how Howard reacts to this will be based on how it was presented to him. Not only by John, but equally important is if the Leno people courting him reached out to Howard to let him know they were interested in one of his employees. I know that the entertainment industry is not the model for business ethics, but there was some degree of mutual respect between the Tonight Show and the HS Show, and when such a respect exists, the right thing to do before snatching one of their long-time employees is to make sure that it can be done with their blessing. Howard takes loyalty very seriously, as he should, and whether or not this was done in a manner becoming of a loyal friend/employee will determine how he deals with this.

John's been nothing but nice to me the few times that we've met, but after all is said and done, it will still be the Howard Stern Show, and he won't lose any listeners as a result of John's departure, except for perhaps a few members of John's immediate family.

John will clearly become a standard Hollywood kiss-ass...he will do whatever he has to in order to fit in on the Leno show and in LA. One thing I've got to give him credit for is the ability to turn a no-talent life into a financially successful career. Although Howard coddled him through much of it, so he got very lucky htere.

Ed's been a friend of the show, although not necessarily Jay -- and I can't remember if he's been on the show since Howard laid into Ed and Doc Severinson for their going on Arsenio and boycotting Jay when he was first starting out.
