There have been lots of posts with contact info for clear channel, senators, stations, etc. Lets get a good list together and I'll stick it on the homepage. Boots had a good idea too. He recommended getting Howard's advertisers in the down markets contact info as well. Post all of the information in this thread.

I would suggest that when contacting these advertisers that you sensibly relay to them what the show meant to you and how disappointed you are in the actions of the station for dropping the show we all love.....rememeber these are/were sponsors of the show and they will put pressure on the stations.

We need info from the other markets....anyone? :hw:

Mutt....I'm the one from last night you invited to this board!!

Here's to Original with updated advertisers!

I urge all Stern fans to boycott advertisers of the 6 Clear Channel Communications stations that removed HS from the air. I am located in San Diego, CA (one the affected areas). Contact these advertisers and tell them you heard their ad on KIOZ, Rock 105.3, in San Diego. Also, mention how much you love their stuff, but will no longer purchase them.

Sound Off!!

A partial list of advertisers are:

· Guitar Center Inc. (818) 735-8800; email: gbicking@guitarcenter.com
· Kearny Mesa Toyota: (858) 279-8151

I will update the list as time permits. If you would like the updated list email me and I will try to respond to everyone.

Rock 105.3's Official Response to Howard's Cancellation! (http://www.rock1053.com/howard_letter_022704.html)

Try This: Call the car dealers I listed and tell them you are interested in buying a new car or truck. When transferred to a sells geek spend as much time with them as you like. They will be so excited thinking this is the easiest sell they have ever had. Then say something like, "Oh yea, you guys advertise on Rock 105.3 don't you?....They are the one that cancelled Howard Stern, so I won't be able to buy my truck (car) from you!

I also emailed the FCC, Clear Channel, my local radio station. I also urge you to tell Clear Channel that when Armatron (or however you spell it) calls to see what your listening to, that your going to be SURE to tell them you would NEVER listen to any Clear Channel station again since they do not support freedom of speech. I am also urging all my friends to not listen to the Clear Channel stations in our area!

As it says on the site, there is no use sending emails. They will have filters to block it out.

Hmmm.... seems like we can actually learn from spammers on this one.

I find it unlikely that they can filter out traffic if you are imaginative on how you word things. Odds are they are filtering out specific words or phrases.

I'm sure you've seen some spam that is able to bypass filters.

I went to a local car dealer on Saturday from the San Diego list just to fuck with them. I had them all the way to signing the papers.....when I told them, "Hey, don't you guy advertise on Rock 105.3? They are the ones who cancelled HS. I can't buy a car from anyone who advertises on that station." Then I tore up the contract, drop it on the desk and walked out!

"Radio shock jock Howard Stern, who was pulled from six markets by broadcaster Clear Channel Communications Inc. (NYSE:CCU - News) last week for making crude comments, generates as much as $100 million in advertising and fees for his nationwide carrier Infinity Broadcasting, a unit of Viacom Inc. (NYSE:VIAb - News), analysts said"

As Howard said on the 3/4 broadcast - he's not good enough for them, but it's OK to use advertising with his voice. Rock 105.3 in San Diego has been running Howards ads for Aamco Transmissions.

Fuck You Clear Channel - You Fucking Hypocrites!

Call AAMCO International Customer Service at 800-523-0401.

note that if you send email, do not directly mention Howard Stern in the event they have setup filters to delete those emails.

To Media outlets such as Clear Channel or Viacomm:

I am extremely angry and disappointed with your decision to pull the Howard Stern show, one of my favorites for years, from your station. While it may be your choice to air what you want, as a consumer I can vote with my wallet and choose not to listen or support your sponsors. I am very concerned about the erosion of free speech in America. Howard Stern is an icon of freedom of the press and speech, and people who don't like him have the freedom to change the channel and not listen.
I am not at all happy with the continuing and increasing censorship of content on the show. As long as the content does not contain banned words by the FCC, then it should be allowed to air.

To politicians:

I am very angry and disappointed with Clear Channel's decision to pull the Howard Stern show, one of my favorites for years. I am very concerned about the erosion of free speech in America. Howard Stern is an icon of freedom of the press and speech, and people who don't like him have the freedom to change the channel and not listen. It is important in this country that all voices be heard. It seems to me that there is an increasing intolerance in this country for people like Howard who were once acceptable. Howard has spawned hundreds of imitators that millions of people listen to everyday.
Where will this end? How many more stations or media personalities will begin to be censored or taken off the air?

(Adding:)
I will vote for you if you work to support free speech in America.

(Or)
I will vote for the politician in my district/state who supports free speech in America and tolerance for all points of view in the media.

To members of the press who are covering this:

I am very angry and disappointed with Clear Channel's decision to pull the Howard Stern show, one of my favorites for years, as well as the continuing censorship of show content by WXRK management. I am very concerned about the erosion of free speech in America. Howard Stern is an icon of freedom of the press and speech. What media outlets, shows, or personalities are next on the moral minority's hit list that will be removed or censored? There is growing movement of fans working to protest the recent actions taken against the Howard Stern show.

To stations who still air Howard:

Howard Stern is my favorite media personality and I listen everyday. Thank you very much for continuing to air and support Howard. I patronize many of his sponsors in support of the show.

Additional Topics:

1) The FCC needs new executive management. The FCC needs to be overhauled.
2) Howard Stern is my favorite media personality and makes my morning commute more bearable/enjoyable....etc.

3) A minority of religious zealots should not be allowed to dictate to the majority what they can or cannot hear or see on radio and tv.

4) Why was Stern ok before but now all of a sudden he is not when the show is the same as it has been for years?

5) Politicians are making too much of a big deal about this after Janet Jackson in order to distract people from the real issues that are not being solved such as high unemployment, jobs being shipped overseas, and funding the public schools for better educations.

6) ?

Phone Calls
Apparently its actually possible to talk to John Hogan!! A fan called Clear Channel in San Antonio one morning between 8:30 and 9 am 1-210-822-2828 - they have a directory where you can enter the first four letters of the employee's name and be directly transfered to their line.

Sample/Actual Letters from Fans:

Here is a sample of a letter that I plan to send to my US reps and the FCC. I think it's important that Howard's name is not mentioned so that we don't come off like a bunch of kooks. That we should stick to the free speech and censorship issues. Feel free to post it on your website (make any changes that you deem fit) for folks to print out to send to their elected officials. We need to be as pro-active as those vocal few who are bombarding the govt with their cards and letters.
Tori
I am writing because I can't just stand by anymore and watch the recent erosion of our free speech rights as a result of the Super Bowl half-time show. Seems a very vocal few have begun a sort of witch-hunt to bring down anyone in the media with whom they don't agree, or who speaks out against the current administration. I'm very frightened by what I see happening because of one exposed breast. I didn't watch the half-time show, but as a parent, and as an informed, educated citizen, I see the government over-reacting to an event that couldn't have possibly harmed anyone. The resulting censorship actions by the government are much more frightening and harmful than this split-second faux-pas. I'd like to know who is so "all-knowing" to be the one to judge what is indecent or not? The country was built on concepts of freedoms and liberties for the individual. It should be up to the individual to decide what they deem to be indecent - not the government. Otherwise we'll turn into a society as depicted in the classic novel Fahrenheit 451 where the government restricts access to all material it deems inappropriate in order to keep its citizens quiet and complacent. This is much more scary to me than an exposed breast.
Well, I will be complacent no more! I feel strongly enough about this matter that, come election time, I will only vote for those candidates who pledge to fight to preserve those precious rights that our founding fathers fought so hard for, and our soldiers today continue to fight for. I know that many others feel the same way as I - although they may not be as vocal as those intolerant few - and will do all that they can to fight against censorship.

I'm also concerned that today, by removing restrictions on the ownership of the public's airwaves, the media is owned by a few, well-connected, conglomerates who filter what we see and hear according to their own agenda. This is another scary turn of events I'm very concerned about. If this trend continues, the citizens of this country will be kept in the dark about important matters affecting this country, and instead fed junk (like an exposed breast) about which to be outraged. Those restrictions need to be tightened so the media is not controlled by a monopoly of a select few.

I look forward to hearing back from you regarding your stance on these issues so I know how to vote come election day.
