View Full Version : I called Sirius Satellite radio....
jays138 03-02-2004, 09:24 PM I called and asked if they are getting Howard, they said they don't know what is going on but they have received tons of calls about people wanting to buy the service if Howard goes to Satellite.
I tried calling XM but I was on hold for 10 mins.
Just FYI.

Damn, I didn't know clear channel is a XM partner. Hope Howard knows that.
Joe_M 03-02-2004, 10:19 PM Clear Channel has no controling interest, or input in XM programming.
XM mearly carries some Clear Channel on air talent, thus making them a "partner".
For instance, XM used to air Bubba The Love Sponge until Clear Channel fired him. They now air Phil Hendrie in his place.

Phil Hendrie is much better radio imo. :hw:
spreedogg 03-02-2004, 10:54 PM In October 1999, XM Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: XMSR) completed a successful public offering on the National NASDAQ Market. American Mobile Satellite Corporation (NASDAQ:SKYC) holds controlling interest in the company. XM's other investors include industry leaders Clear Channel Communications Inc. (NYSE:CCU); DIRECTV, Inc., a unit of Hughes Electronics Corporation (NYSE:GMH); the General Motors Corporation (NYSE:GM); and a private investment group comprised of Columbia Capital, Telcom Ventures L.L.C., and Madison Dearborn Partners, which together invested $250 million in the company in July 1999. XM Satellite Radio obtained one of only two satellite digital audio radio service (SDARS) licenses from the Federal Communications Commission in October 1997. First there was AM, then FM and soon. . . XM Satellite Radio. For more information, please visit the XM website:
spreedogg 03-02-2004, 10:58 PM XM's prestigious Board of Directors, which includes Gary Parsons, XM's Chairman and Chairman of American Mobile; Hugh Panero, XM's President and CEO; Randall T. Mays, Executive Vice President and CFO of Clear Channel Communications ; Randy S. Segal, American Mobile's Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary; Jack Shaw, Chairman and CEO of Hughes Network Systems, Inc., and Executive Vice President of Hughes Electronics Corporation; Dr. Rajendra Singh, Board member and a co-founder of LCC International, Inc.; and Ronald L. Zarrella, Executive Vice President of General Motors and President of GM North America.
spreedogg 03-02-2004, 11:00 PM In July 1999, the company got a big financial boost of $250 million, including $50 million from GM and $75 million from broadcast radio giant Clear Channel Communications Inc. Shortly after, the company held a public offering and it was off to the races.
spreedogg 03-02-2004, 11:01 PM Clear Channel has no controling interest, or input in XM programming.
Still think that?
Joe_M 03-03-2004, 04:19 PM I'm aware of everything you posted, but as I understand it, Clear Channel still has a very small share of the company total (about 10%), and NO controlling interest.
Now when the day comes that they have a controlling interest, XM is in big trouble.
Joe_M 03-03-2004, 04:27 PM Phil Hendrie is much better radio imo. :hw:
Yeah, Hendrie's show is great. You gotta love listening to rednecks argue with his "guests".
djequipment 03-03-2004, 05:33 PM That's wwhy I've been loading up on shares of Sirius.... I ownded some since before this crackdown began, but I'm gonna continue to add to my SIRI position as the price warrants... Bear in mind that SIRI is just under 3 bux a share now, and I expect it to hit $8.00 by the end of the year even without Howard....
SIRI is based in Rockerfeller Center also.... Big plus on their side to lure Howard!!!
PickleLoaf 03-03-2004, 06:31 PM Is Sirius publicly traded? Is there an online prospectus?
well, at least calling XM and showing them all the potential customers they might have may give howard some leverage if he decides to go in that direction after working in "regular" radio!
JoeyBoots 03-03-2004, 07:26 PM When I get some extra cash I'm buying in to Sirius. :hw:

Sell your Clear Channel stock and buy Sirius.
spreedogg 03-03-2004, 09:41 PM Is Sirius publicly traded? Is there an online prospectus?
Yeah the stock symbol is SIRI it is one of the most active stocks daily by volume on nasdaq..most likely due to it's low price making it popular with day traders....it closed at 2.96 today...52 week high 4.20 52 week low .39
Xm symbol is XMSR..it trades at 25.43...52 week high 29.96..52 week low 4.00
XM has about 1.5 mil subscribers...Sirrus has about 800k...neither company makes money....XM lost 1.12 per share last year...Sirrus said break even point for them would be 2 mil subscribers which they hope to reach by 2005
You could see that if Howard did go to one of them and brought a fraction of his 18 mil estimated listeners it would instantly make that provider industry leader.
Slater 03-04-2004, 08:11 AM i think the whole point is if he gives in and goes to a subsriber service that means all of our rights for freedom of speech and people being responsible parents to "change the channel" or as Sharon O. put it "just turn it off" goes out the window. Either way I hope CC loses money if they are not already for losing revenue in 6 markets. Howard needs to get his advertisers syndicated and locally to boycott CC.

stinkynutz 03-04-2004, 02:41 PM I just purchased 100 shares just in case. Hey, at under $3.00 a share, you just never know...
monsterjoe 03-04-2004, 02:50 PM Howard might not find sanctuary in satellite radio. The FCC is considering regulating satellite and cable channels because channels are sold in "packages".
Think of this senario: Soccer mom gets Sirius or XM to listen to the christian and country stations. Her snot nosed kid hits the radio and the channel lands on the Howard Stern Show on Satellite. She freaks and starts a letter writting campaign with her church group. We'd be back on square one.

Yeah, but then again satellite radio is a PAY service just like cable, and from what I have seen, channels can be blocked just like cable TV. I wish Howard would go to Sirius, my stock would go through the roof!

Hopefully they will find a way around this, like you can order diffrent packages. Like the R rated, PG-13, or family package.
Your right though when you said it will bring us back to square one

God look at those out of touch motherfuckers. 5 people deciding what 280 million people can watch or listen to. Unbelieveable.

djequipment 03-04-2004, 10:37 PM For anyone looking to buy some SIRI but you don't have a brokerage account....
Check out www.sharebuilder.com there is no minimum to invest so you could basically open an account witha $50 investment if you wanted.
They purchase once a week on Tuesdays and the price of the trade is just $4.00. So $104 gets you $100 worth of stock including fractional shares.
You can also do real time trades for $15.00 I believe.
I have an account and it's great, if anyone is thinking of opening an account drop me an email at djequipment@hotmail.com with your email address and I can send you a referral bonus that would give you a $25 deposit to your account after your first investment.
At current prices thats like 7 free SIRI shares after your 1st trade.
I get 5 free trades if you sign up, meaning I don't have to pay the $4.00 fee on my 5 next purchases.
Therefore we both win. You get $25 bux to your account and I get a few free purchases!!! Let's all load up on some SIRI shares and make some loot...
As I said in an earlier post I expect SIRI to hit $8.00 by the end of the year even without Hooknose!!!
Just my opinion...
