Blade_Jones 03-07-2004, 09:08 PM Tell you congressman to STOP the FCC fines and threats of FCC fines. Who is the government to decide what is funny and what is distastefull or crude? That's none of their business to censor.
The FCC's system is flawed because all they do is take complaints. They don't have a hotline for compliments and approval of various radio shows. If 8 million people listen to Stern each week then Howard listeners are no minority.
Nice link and thanks
I've put you post on the homepage, & stuck it to the top. plus I put something up on the main forum page.
I can make a fax form like we used for the jackie petition. any god fax numbers?

Schnoffle 03-08-2004, 11:44 AM Just wrote my congress person asking his opinion on the FCC's recent actions, then that I do not need the government impinging on my first amendment privileges, and on which TV shows or radio stations I should/can listen to, and since my husband & I vote in each election, I would be interested in his opinion on this matter. I also asked him not to just send me a form letter reply thanking me for writing, but to actually tell us his views. Will probably just get the form letter you always do when writing, but definately have to try. Now off to write the Senators.

My Example:
I've never been more embarrassed to live in this country.
The Howard Stern radio program is the most recent victim of the Janet Jackson Superbowl boob flashing that has sparked a tidal wave of puritanical squelching of freedom of expression.
I don't understand the extreme outrage over this matter. As a former child, I can honestly say that I were a child watching it, the only impact it would have had on me would be laughter. I’ve laughed at scenes of rear nudity on the Emmy-award winning series, “The Simpsons.” Ask your former child self if your reaction would have been similar, as I think it would have been. I think that widespread fanatical fascination with an empty bloodsport such as football is arguably much more detrimental to a young child's squishy little brain. That's not to say I think children should be shielded from football either. That is for their parents to decide, NOT THE GOVERNMENT! Violence, competition, war (which football more than any other popular American sport is an athletic representation of), female breasts, sex and anything else are facts of life that parents must prepare their children to deal with as they see fit.
The half-time Superbowl incident, seen around the world, was out of place and a bit more provocative than most families were expecting, so I can understand some of the grumblings about it. I don't understand what that has to do with the push towards decrying as wrong, fining and censoring folks for broadcasting content expressly marketed as for adults that has come in the wake of the half-time fiasco.
As for Clear Channel’s dismissal of Stern’s morning radio program, due to a new moral clause, they’ve proven to be hypocrites under the political pressure of the Federal Communications Commission, which is infested with unelected officials and who wish to “clean” the public airwaves, yet Stern has been successful in the markets he has broadcasted in. It began when Stern interviewed Rick Solomon, the man who was filmed having sex with hotel heiress and Fox TV reality star Paris Hilton in a video. Using a racist term, a caller asked Solomon if he had ever had relations with any famous black women.
Being African-American, I feel actions hurt more than words.
Clear Channel’s trumped-up moral clause is actually based on silencing those who disagree with the current presidential administration, and Stern has become the latest victim.
This movement is part of an overall power grab by the government and religious institutions under the guise of "protecting children" to control what we, as supposedly free americans, are allowed (read that word again, ALLOWED) to view, listen to and ultimately think. I think this is in direct conflict with what the United States of America is supposed to represent, even after the horrible attacks during September 11, 2001. How can we censor entertainment if we can’t censor human experience? To me, as an active voter, censorship, no matter how well-intentioned, is a social disease.
We are at a crossroads in history where massive corporations and dominant religious institutions are threatening to convert our open society of free people into a land where popular opinion is the only opinion. Hopefully, it's not too late for change to happen.

Personally I might leave out the conspiracy theory. Just my opinion. Good luck.
MiamiAnnie 03-08-2004, 06:06 PM Thanks for the link. I just sent my letter off to my Congressman. I also posted a "sample letter" in another thread if anyone wants to use it....

HipKat 03-09-2004, 08:06 PM Just out of curiosity, why would you send letters to the Government, when it's the Government that wants to shut him down? They don't give two craps what you want, or what you think. This is a corrupt leadership, that has been weaving a web of corruption for decades and now, it's finally starting to rear it's ugly head on the American public.
Your letters are admirable, but they aren't going to do a damn thing.
Actually, it's Howard who can save himself here. He has the voice that is heard by up to 18 million people. That's a hell of alot of votes. A hell of a lot of buying power and a hell of alot of voices.
Frankly, I doubt those voices will be heard in letters, but there are other ways.
Politicians only care about one thing. Protecting their jobs and getting ahead. Getting more power. More money. And all at the cost of the general public. Voting them out is the way to go, ummmmm, except that the alternative is usually no better than the incumbant. Why else do you think that a single blue collar worker with no kids kicks out 40% of his paycheck every week?
Why do you think that any of this is even happening? It's all about control. They take away more pleasures, freedoms, and choices every day, and we let it go.
Boycotting Clear Channel isn't going to hurt Clear Channel, because the majority of concert goers aren't going to boycott them. I work in production for CC at a local Concert Venue. I hate them, because when I was booking shows, they came in and took over the whole area, basically limiting us independants to local bands in local venues. Like, big deal, so I quit booking. Hell, the only reason I work for them now is because I get paid to hang out with big name musicians. Think about it, ever wonder what it's like watching Britney Spears walk around practically naked all day, backstage at an outdoor venue?
Or standing on stage while Ozzy's on at Ozzfest.
Anyhow, no ones going to miss kick ass shows for long, just to boycott the promoter.
Not listening to CC radio stations doesn't mean anything either, because radio stations care about sponsors, NOT listeners.
But anyhow.....
The Howard Stern show is a great source of entertainment, and I've been entertained by him for 15 yrs now, but what about the more important issues?
Is the Stern show more important than the government's illegal intrusion on our lives? Our privacy? our freedom?
I pray that he doesn't get fired, but I bet he will. Because ev en if he doesn't, the FCC will have such a high priced gag on him, he'lll probably want to quit anyhow.
Robinsmuff 03-10-2004, 10:21 AM Do not e-mail but write a real letter instead. A lobbiest for our industry once told us that policticians look at an email as representing 5 votes-where as a hand written letter represents 100 votes.

that's the "partners in a small but successful employment firm" lobby. ;)

but doesnt the listeners buy and use the product from those sponsers if i'm not mistaken?

true that but we do vote them in office but ...it seems not to be working now..

just curious...
is your PAC named 'PUSSIES'? 'Partners in Un Successful Small Irrelevant Employment Shams'?
also..
how does it feel, partner in a small but successful employment firm, to get schooled by a lawyer, BIATCH? :tu:

There is a lawer on this board? How about a flunky that if he does have a law degree is doing nothing with it. High powered attorney who has time to be on a stern message board all day every day....Yea right. :bw:

umm actually most of us high-powered lawyers spend our time drafting briefs, doing legal research and supervising junior associates' work.
tell me again, do partners in small but successful employment firms ('PUSSIES') take some sort of spelling or grammar test to gain entrance into their professional organization?
just curious..BIATCH

Robinsmuff 03-10-2004, 02:57 PM No, most people in any business do not worry about proof reading an internet message board post. Most of us have not invested our whole lives in a message board dedicated to fans of a DJ. I did notice that even in you bull shit attempt at outlining the duties of a real attorney, you did not list monitoring an internet message board 24-7. by ending your post with the ever so eloquent, "Biatch, I can understand why you are so succesful. You're a joke.

that's bizarre. i was under the impression that in order to be a successful professional, one had to be able to spell basic words and put together a logical, if not grammatically correct, statement. i guess i'm wrong for the small but successful employment firm industry! :)
biatch :)
LifeOfAgony 03-10-2004, 04:14 PM I emailed the FCC, I got a form letter back saying they would reply to me within 2 days no more than 20. Well, 2 days have past and still no response, not that I really expected one. I know that it doesn't feel like we are doing anything, but I feel a little better knowing that I tried something. Our radio station in Columbus is also giving out the gov website for us to contact our Congress reps, I thought that was cool. Also, I am curious as to who will be banning Ozzfest this year. I know that I am and I go almost every year, but once Howard said on the air that Clear Channel runs it, I was like well that just sucks!
HipKat 03-10-2004, 08:36 PM Buffalo, NY said no to Ozzfest this year. Said there was too much damage to the venue last year, so they're passing on it.

twelthnite 03-16-2004, 02:42 PM Be careful what you email you could end up in jail like I did!I sent an email to a radio talk show here in LA last year that was intended as a flamer to the listeners
of that show.I served 100 days of a year sentence. My email was considered to be a terrorist threat to a local politician.I facing three years of probation as well!
