I enjoyed your very honest and blunt post Sir. Much of it, I do agree with...with the Lexception that you are going to upset USC. The coaches still remember that bad day in 2003 (and a couple of the red shirted players too!) when you beat us by 3 in overtime. I remember it. That magic will not return this year though. I actually work at USC. The athletic department Lextended an invitation as I am a friend with one of the assistant athletic director's there. Cardinal and Gold is a great organization! I used to be a Cardinal and Gold member...and my father still is. You ever make it to the picnics over at the Sports Arena? Wild scene!

By the way Southoc11...last Thursday I watched Booty and Turner connect three touchdown passes...and one was against our first string defense!

Brief history. I went to Cal during the Jason Kidd years. The best we did in football then was to beat Clemson in the Citrus bowl in 92. I also saw Russell White go nuts in a 52-30 win over your beloved Trojans. Enjoyed last year's Holiday Bowl win over A&M and their giant fullback.

Realistically, SC is better over a whole season, and as a plus, they have represented the Pac 10 well. Pete Caroll runs a reasonably clean program, especially compared to the SEC and Big 12. You have occasional douchebag behavior, but take 100 male students from any university and you'll have stupidity ( drug use, fights, etc) I might have gone there- had the grades and SATs, but it was too expensive to realistically consider.

I admire SC and pull for them when not playing Cal. It might require SC to do better than us to get Cal to the Rose Bowl ( haven't been there since 59) There is no way Cal plays for a national championship, so a Rose Bowl would be a satisfying ending to this season. SC is stacked and should compete for the national title as usual.

UCLA, on the other hand, is a former women's school who stole OUR fight song, and has a bunch of tough talking asians who need to stop listening to hip hop.

Yes the Idaho game is a bit of an embarrassment, but it was scheduled for a good reason at the time. Oh well, our OCC schedule is still better than most SEC teams. Speaking of which, I like how UF has 8 home games and only 4 on the road!

SEC is very good, but the Pac 10 gets absolutely no respect.

USC is clearly the best college program.

SEC top teams like LSU, Florida, Auburn, and Georgia are as good or better than the next best Pac 10 teams like Cal, Oregon, and ASU.

But the Pac 10 plays everyone else EVERY year, which means a slightly above average team like Oregon State can get an upset over USC. Familiarity breeds upsets.

Pac 10 also has to develop a history - ex: Football has only been really popular at Cal since the early 90's, once the team got decent and started winning. Bruce Snyder,and Steve Mariucci paved the way for Tedford to get Cal ranked in the top 25.

SEC has been totally Football oriented forever.

SC looked a little sluggish, but playing a weak team in Idaho combined with 90 degree weather didn't help. In any case, it's tough to complain about a 35 point victory.

Cal plays Colorado State next. Should be close, but I don't expect a letdown. Fingers crossed of course.

Less than 48 hours from kickoff, I have to agree with you Erstad. There is talk on campus that Carroll was definitely holding back the talent against Idaho. I don't know if that's true, but given Nick Holt's ties to the team and Idaho's recruits, I think those arguments may deserve some merit.

The true test is Nebraska! No disrespect to the Big Red, but if they make it a close, close game, then I seriously believe LSU should, for now at least, be #1. Having said that, I have no doubt that USC will end up being #1 at the end of the year.

Also, I believe USC will kill Nebraska. Let me make that clear!

The hardest thing about being a USC fan these days is watching teams like Notre Dame and Michigan end up Lexactly where USC was in the mid-90s...losing most if not all of their games and losing all the respect they once had a monopoly on. Pac 10 looked pretty bad this morning with Washington making lots of mental mistakes against a beatable OSU. Ty is a decent coach, but Washington blew that game.

That was a nice cover to see this week. Just hope it was not a bit premature with the running game starting to come around. The line opened up holes people on here could run through! Just mauled that Nebraska DLine. I love it because I do not trust Booty. I was hoping he'd have the same senior season Carson Palmer did, but not starting out that way yet. Personally I never boo our guys or any college kids in fact, but at the same time I do not think I would ever applaud the other. It is not a classless move in my opinion, I just would not do that.

At the same time though, I talked to a friend who is a high school coach in south OC and very familiar with Sanchez and according to him, Sanchez while being excited and pumped at the opportunity, defends Booty's game on Saturday blaming alot on line protection and receiver drops and poor route running.
