View Full Version : Where are all the tapes? When Howard retires we will hear them
SombdyDropBelzo 08-07-2007, 07:22 AM Your would think with all the fuss Howard made with the 23,000 hours of tapes he wanted and eventually got, that we would hear them once in a while. Repeats from past Sirius shows and "sports" theme bullshit shows are just that...bullshit.
Howard will make a deal with Sirius to play the tapes when he retires. The fans got screwed again.
Misskitty 08-07-2007, 07:27 AM I don't want to hear the tapes again. They aren't current.
DICKWAD 08-07-2007, 07:31 AM No one will care when he retires, life will go on. :kw:

Believe me I know that....but if I'm gonna get screwed I like to be kissed. They put no effort at all in these vacation shows.
mandlebaum 08-07-2007, 07:42 AM The agreement for the tapes only gave them the rights to them for 5 years, if I am not mistaken.

I don't know how long you've been listening to Howard but there are 24 years of great stuff you haven't heard. If your content listening to a show 1 year old than god bless you

I like to be kissed also. :marx: instead of :pissr: :frog:

Well there it is then.....

I believe you're right. They can probably get away with replaying Sirius content which previously replayed classic bits, but as for the rest I think once Howard's initial 5 year contract is up, bye-bye classic tapes :hw: ...
He's said more than once that Sirius, not he, purchased the tapes. They bought the rights to air the tapes, not outright ownership of them. They're leasing them essentially...like TV shows and syndication: TBS, for example, doesn't own the Seinfeld shows. It owns exclusive rights to air the episodes for a few years, and when that contract is done, they'll either renegotiate another deal for the airing rights, or else they have to stop showing them.

Then they have cause for not airing the tapes now...
Rad31 08-07-2007, 08:45 AM Howard got his tapes back?
ydpubs 08-07-2007, 09:11 AM Meh, the tapes are kind of depressing, considering that they edit out Alison and you hear how much Howard has changed from motivated to coasting and hypocritical.

Well said! Whats the use in playing tapes anyways if you are going to edit the content. Doesn't make much sense. I gotta feeling Beth calls most of the shots in his relationship.

fatbags 08-07-2007, 10:00 AM I actaully prefer that they are replaying Sirius shows. I don't like to be reminded how much Howard used to like his job. Well, that and the fact that like someone else said, the WXRK days just aren't that topical anymore and do seem kind of dated when playing an entire show.
imajedi888 08-07-2007, 01:15 PM ach they really edit out Allison?
i dont like listening to Sirius show replays either, its just too much you have the one replay all day when the show first airs, then to reair parts of them again is redundant, but the problem with those tapes is the process in restoring and digitizing all of them to be replayed so i guess im playing devils advocate but i look forward to fridays Master Tape Theaters...
