View Full Version : Comcast is Pissing Me OFF!!!!
Miller 09-05-2007, 07:06 PM First they tend to go out some when I need to work in the evenings. Ok this happens. Then they go out for the season finally of Deadliest Catch and a Saturday evening of Bristol under the lights. So much for that BS that Satellite TV goes out every time it rains but Cable is always there for you. Forget that I pay them more a month than I would for a damn Yugo.
Now they won’t carry the Big Ten Network. This is getting me full hot. I left Directv after 10 or 12 years for OnDemand (which is great btw) and HDTV but mother effer you would think they could carry this channel in Big Ten areas. Shit people in the SEC areas have the channel but noooo, not us. Now I’m missing Big Ten games that I can’t even get on PPV anymore. Comcast won’t carry it around here because they are protecting their customers from paying $201 a month instead of $200. I’m so glad these guys are protecting the average consumer from high prices.
It’s true, they fuck you at the drive through….^!@%!@#%!#$&^!#$^

mkriss5681 09-06-2007, 05:10 AM Dude I used to work for comcast. They are a horrible company. As soon a Verizon FIOS comes out I'm swtiching.
Cable companies -- Time Warner, Comcast, Cox, etc. -- are just positioning to get a better deal than the $1.10 per subscriber fee that the Big Ten Network is charging.
The longer the cable systems wait, the better the deal for the consumers (although many are missing the early college football games).
Comcast, since they are so large, may be the last system to cave in to the Big Ten Network's demands.
If you watch the BTN, advertisers aren't signing up for the network, with many breaks filled with PSA's from the Big Ten institutions. Since many cannot get the channel at this point, this lack of advertisment is going to continue.
In Columbus, the Ohio State opener was just viewed by 27,000 homes, compared to over 300,000 homes for last season's opener. Sports bars that could get the game were standing room only.
Since no one can get the channel, this is a PR nightmare for the Big Ten Network.
tbone420 09-06-2007, 11:16 AM I watched the entire Michigan v Appalachian State game on the Big Ten Network on DirecTV :D

I was thinking the same thing but I read in the paper that Verizon isn't going to roll out FIOS on my county.

I just called Comcast about this and they are taking a hard line. I asked the rep when they were going to carry it and his response is, I don't know IF we will carry it. Normally you get all the rosy bullshit but the dude was pretty frank in saying Comcast may not pick it up.
It would piss everyone off but the BTN should dump as many big games on the channel as they can.
Comcast has a history of this shit. Just this year they dumped the NFL Network to a sports package which cost $5 per month. While it doesn't break the bank for me, it sure does dump more money into Comcast. Also I can't help but wonder if Directv had to raise their prices to carry the BTN.

You live in Comcast county my friend goodluck !
Here in Massachusetts, every single city has cable contracts rights. If they someone like the Big V wants to come in, they need to get the rights from that seperate city, and not at a state level like elswhere. Comcast throwns more money at the city NOT to let them in and the city is says OK.
I have been waiting for months, and Verizon is ready to go but my city is dragging their feet approving it, and same for other cities around. Verizon said fuck it and now appealing to the state and looks pretty good but we will see.

Didn't Verizon get carry rights from the State of Texas and bypass all the local governments? I wonder how they did that. I thought every city handled the cable contracts like you mentioned in Mass.

finally, something that directv/satellite has that the pig known as comcast doesnt. im with ya on yer rant miller, but for once, im thankful i have directv. i love the psu games and now should be able to see all of em.....comcast sports net and the phillies/flyers/sixers with their loophole which allows comcast to have a monopoly in philly, however, still eludes me
IA Hawkeye mark 09-06-2007, 01:04 PM I almost dropped my Directv last year cuz I don't get local channels. But, I never got around to it and now I'm happy. I've been watching the Big 10 channel a lot and it's not too bad, if of course, you like the Big 10
mkriss5681 09-06-2007, 01:16 PM I was thinking the same thing but I read in the paper that Verizon isn't going to roll out FIOS on my county.
I can't wait until WiMax comes out.

I left Directv because I wanted High Def with a DVR. D* was out of receivers at the time and was going to charge me something like $200 for each High Def DVR and it was still a lease. I might have gone for it except I can't pick up the 110 and 119 sats from my location so I went with comcast.
I like watching the PSU games myself but I'm an Ohio State guy. At least last year I could get them on ESPN Plus. The BTN is a good deal for me even if I pay a buck a month because the ESPN Plus deal was over $100.
I'm just tried of Comcast acting like they are protecting me...average joe from high prices when D* can carry the channel and are still cheaper. Also the Philly sports channel shit is crazy. I guess you can do that when you own the teams, huh?
BrentsBooger 09-06-2007, 01:21 PM If they would only cut off your internet, my prayers would be answered
goldphoenix 09-06-2007, 07:48 PM I am pissed at comcast because last year they gace us the NFL network with the regular digital package. this year they have combined it into another special sports package you have to get for I think another $10 a month. Bunch of pirates.

At least you get the NFL Network!! I have Charter and that isn't even an option here in St Louis. Same with BTN..
One thing with the BTN that I have read is that the network is owned 51% (or something like that) by the BTN, and the other 49% is owned by Fox.
Fox owns DirecTV. So what the Big 10 does in negotiations with cable companies is they ask for $1.10 per sub to have it in basic cable knowing that the cable companies will tell them to fuck off. This makes the cable companies look like shit, and in DirecTv's eyes will bring more subs to them. I am sure the BTN is not charging DirecTV $1.10 per sub.
I presume that other leagues will go this way as well in the future, and if cable gives in to the BTN, they fuck themselves in the longrun when the Pac 10, Big 12 and other majors get their own network.
Hammbone 09-06-2007, 10:25 PM I got direct tv so I dont give a rats ass
Just an update unrelated to Comcast:
Dish Network and the Big Ten Network reached a deal prior to this weekend's college football games. Available on the America's 100 package and higher on channel 439.

----
The Big Ten Network reached an agreement yesterday with satellite TV provider Dish Network, expanding the reach of the new channel.
The number of households with the network nationwide initially will increase from about 17 million to 28.5 million. In Ohio and the seven other states with Big Ten schools, the number will increase from 3.5 million to 6.2 million.
i_am_torry 09-07-2007, 08:23 AM Cumcast sucks ... If you live in the Philly area, get RCN ....
LanceJr 09-07-2007, 10:13 AM Exactly Miller The Big 'V" needs to get state approval to by pass the city levels in any state which they already did in Texas. Massachusetts is dragging their feet and well Comcast is throwing money at them. They have only been approved at a local city level in a dozen cities or so state wide.
Miller 10-01-2007, 10:18 PM This shit's not going away Kevin....sorry had a Lasker Investigates flashback.
I still want to see Big Ten games. Come on already.

Ditto, Im hoping to get Verizon Fios soon. Their internet is fucking fast as hell. My grandparents have it, an I almost shit myself with its speed for a home. I can barely fucking play Halo 3 with my internet crapping out all the damned time.
johnbutler1 10-02-2007, 06:15 AM DirecTV now has "On Demand"...it's not truly on demand, as you have to wait for the
show to start downloading via your high speed internet connection before you can
start watching it...but it has a ton of content.
It's in beta testing now, but it is released to the general public, if you participate
in their cutting edge testing....

looks like she got a breast reduction
i sorry to say
I still want to see Big Ten games. Come on already.
In regards to Ohio State on the Big Ten Network, as I can only comment on OSU, the Kent State game will be on the BTN and either the Wisconsin or Illinois game will be on the BTN (most likely the Illinois game).
So the rest of the OSU schedule will be on ABC or ESPN.
Don't bank on Comcast or Time Warner signing an agreement with the Big Ten Network until after the college football regular season.
