View Full Version : Should The NFL Intervene And Nix The Pats Getting The 49ers First Round Draft Pick?

Hugomarink

I think the NFL needs to step in here and do something. The reality that the most dominant team in the league may be getting the #1 pick in next year's draft is an absolute joke. The league strives for parity and this situation makes a mockery of the league's parity strategy. The Pats can be compensated in other ways, for example by taking additional later round draft picks from the 49ers over the coming years. It's gotta be done.

And I don't want to hear a bunch of homer NE fans bitch and whine about how unfair it would be for the NFL to step in and rectify this situation. There's no way the Pats should be getting that pick, I don't care what the original deal was. It's not fair, it's not funny, and it's not fun. The only people who can honestly believe it is fair that the Pats get that draft pick will be Pats fans. I'm sure anybody else with a reasonable mind would agree it's not fair for a team that good to be in the running for the top pick in the NFL draft.

And, yes, we are talking about the possible #1 pick in next year's draft. I know Miami and the Rams have worse records than SF but at this point, I would not be surprised if the 49ers end up with the worst record in the league. They clearly are the worst team.

who knows, maybe he'll drop dead like Len Bias. A deals a deals, the PATS can't predict who will suck, they can only predcit that they will dominate.

New England will deal the pick anyway, as they wont want to pay the huge signing bonus that comes with drafting a player at that spot...

Hugo,

I hear what you are saying, but are you really serious? In what Universe is that even remotely fair.

I totally get it though. If I was a fan of any other team I would hate the Pats with all my being. I hated Dallas as a little kid and I hated the Yankees. The rich keep getting richer.

If they did end up with a great first round pick I am pretty sure Greg Easterbrook and Skip Bayless would kill themselves so it would be doubly cool.

No, I'm not totally serious but you have to admit it's a ridiculous situation. If the NFL can apply some pressure to convince the Pats to deal that pick to a team that needs it then they should do so. It would be bad if the Pats march to a Super Bowl victory and then end up with the #1 pick in the draft. No team deserves that much good fortune.

No way. Shouldn't happen and won't happen. It wasn't that bad of a deal at the time. The Niners were expecting to be much better this year. A lot of people had them going to the playoffs. So this pick was not expected to be top 5.

Kayotic1

Maybe they should do like the NBA and make it contingent. If it is top 5 it goes to the next year.

The Patriots paid their penalty to the NFL. It's not their fault the 49ers are terrible.

If the 49ers were 7-2 or 8-1 and in prime playoff position, I'd be hard pressed to find any Pats fans around here complaining about having the 26th pick in the first round. Who knows if they'll even keep the pick, especially if it's #3 or higher. They could get a lot of veterans in a trade for that pick.

Remember, they gave up a fourth round pick to get RANDY MOSS.

Can't and won't be done, but it is very strange how things have turned around over the past several years for the Bosox and Patriots. Imagine if New England hadn't already lost a pick for next year? And here's a scary thought: if they continue to make smart moves regarding players, what would people think if they went undefeated not only this year, but NEXT YEAR as well?

Why? they got a player they wanted this year and thought they could win the division...

Who knew how much they would miss Norv... Smith is clearly not as good as he was playing last year in the 2nd half.

What Cracks me Up (or Kills Me) the Most as a '9er fan ... is that Tom Brady WANTED to be a 9iner !

He was born a '9er Fan.

And he was shut down, denied, shined, ignored, etc. etc.

And now almost ALL of the Patriots players at one time or another had a Chance to be a 49er.

Now we Suck And they Continue to WIN.

As a less than committed NFL fan(I'll watch, but I don't give a shit) I will just step in and say it won't be the first overall pick. I hereby promise the Rams WILL have a worse record than the Niners.

Here's to 1-15 Rams! Git 'er done!

No they won't. The Rams have a lot of their key players back who were injured and they just beat up a Saints team that had strung together a few solid victories on the Saints' home field. The Rams will probably have a decent second half. The Niners are horrible. They can't even move the ball. Take last night's game for example: The Niners did not even have a first down in the first half. It's not that the Seahawks are even that good -- the 49ers are THAT BAD.

Hugomarink
11-13-2007, 11:00 PM
Miami will probably end up with that first pick even though I bet they'd beat the Niners if they played now. The Niners got lucky and have those two victories from the early season. I don't think they'll win a game from here on out.

Waaah my team is shitty and dealt their Top 5 pick to the best team in football. Get over it. It was a shitty deal as you can find a decent lineman through free agency and the 49ers overrated how good they would be.

A deal is a deal. This is like dealing Kazmir to the Devil Rays for Victor Zambrano and next year saying I want Kazmir back. Nobody would bitch if the 49ers were 1st in their division and Staley was an all pro lineman.

Faggot Pats fans. You guys are insufferable. Don't worry, your team will suck again some day. As much as I hate the Pats, and I hate them tremendously, you can't take that pick away. I could maybe see it if the NFL had said during spygate that they would take a pick away and determine what pick at a later date or something, but they didn't. So the Pats have the pick. I think they'll deal the pick too. I just hope the Pats don't crush my Bills too much this Sunday night, but they probably will.

SF thought they'd be a bunch of big swinging dicks by signing Clements for 5 times his value. (Bills fan here.)
