Cuz i want to start a thread about my team

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Trent Dilfer will start for the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in place of quarterback Alex Smith, who finally acknowledged a serious arm injury has been affecting his play.

Dilfer, the 14-year veteran who struggled through three straight losses while filling in for Smith, got the assignment Thursday from coach Mike Nolan.

Smith and his coach had a lengthy meeting Wednesday following the quarterback's public disclosure that his recently separated right shoulder led to a forearm injury that prevents him from throwing well. Smith and Nolan both had previously denied Smith's arm injury was causing his poor play.

So the 49ers (2-7) will turn to Dilfer for their home game against the St. Louis Rams (1-8).

"There's no time for me to be sympathetic [toward Smith]," said Dilfer, who has a close relationship with the former No. 1 draft pick. "My job is to go out and play the best football I can play. ... My relationship with Alex won't change, but I don't have time for that drama or any other type of drama."

Dilfer got his first snaps since 2005 after Smith was injured on the third play of San Francisco's loss to Seattle on Sept. 30. Dilfer, who won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens after the 2000 season, went 47-of-90 for 463 yards with three touchdown passes and five interceptions for the 49ers.

Smith said his forearm still hurt, and he planned to sit out most of practice Thursday for the second straight day. He acknowledged a bit of regret for airing his communication problems with Nolan in public before discussing them fully with the head coach.

"He and I have talked in the past," Smith said. "What I was saying and what he was hearing might have been different. In the future, I'll try to be more clear."

Load up on the Rams this week.

Same shit with Eaton. He was pitching so bad he found out he had a "sore" shoulder and went on the DL.

Didn't look like it Monday night. You guys are better off taking Young from the booth and putting him at Qb than shit Dilfer. Keep losing though I want that #1 overall pick.

It was an awful year to have the #1 pick. Of course it fits perfectly with my assertion that Bay Area sports are cursed. It's like when the Warriors had the #1 pick and the best player was Joe Smith. Ugh.

Did this curse take affect after the Niners Super Bowls or after the 89 quake?

He's had 3 fucking seasons, fuck him. Smith is a fucking liar and using some Bullshit injury as an excuse. Nolan is an asshole for wasting all that money and the number 1 pick on a fucking loser. Smith will go down as the biggest bust in NFL history.

I think it might've started with the '89 Quake World Series. You remember, the A's made three straight World Series appearances back then and got absolutely blasted in two of them. The one they finally win is against the Giants, and it was one of the worst World Series of all time because of the quake delay and because the Giants were laughably bad. Yes, the 49ers managed one more Super Bowl victory in the '90s but since then it's been bad for all Bay Area sports, at least in terms of winning championships. The Giants are seriously cursed.

You have to give him a pass because of the shoulder injury. I don't care if you think he's lying. It's entirely possible he may genuinely be hurt.

In Smith's rookie year (2005) the team was awful and he was running for his life on just about every play. Last year the team markedly improved and Smith looked much better than he did his rookie season. This year the team has regressed back to their 2005 level of ineptitude, and Smith got hurt early in the season and has not been the same since. You can't solely blame Smith for this collapse. The 49er organization simply has to regroup and go back into rebuilding mode. Maybe when the Chargers miss the playoffs this year Norv Turner will be canned and he can come back and be the 49ers offensive coordinator. While it is hard to believe, it appears the loss of Turner has really hurt the team. They cannot (and will not) give up on Smith at this time. It makes no sense. The guy showed signs of talent last season. It's not his fault the team has collapsed around him. There aren't many QBs in the league who could lead this team to victories with the way they're playing. I say he gets one more year and if he can't show improvement he'll officially be a bust.

The 49ers are probably the worst team in the league.
At least the Dolphins and Rams compete.

It's not exactly like Mike Nolan isn't to blame as he is probably the worst head coach in the NFL. Statistically aren't the Niners closing in on a record for the worst offense ever?

I say its time to blow this team up, cut Smith, Dilfer, Nolan, Hostler, etc...... Bring in a HC with a winning tract record such as Cower, or Parcells. Seriously, fuck Mike Nolan, for the past 3 years he has duped the bay area into thinking he is the second coming when he is just a loser asshole.

For the record he is lying. Alex smith was horrible before he got injured this year. He might have a shitty team, but he needs to make plays. This is more than Alex just lying about an injury. He wants to fool the fans for another year, and by sitting he guarantees he will be back. Just think of it. If Smith played the rest of the season and lost everygame(his fault or not) there would be a greater chance to get traded or cut. If he sits he can blame the shoulder and fool the 9ers for another year.

I agree with that. Nolan should probably be gone. It'd be great to get Cowher but I'm sure that ain't happening. He doesn't strike me as a west coast guy.

I don't know how you know he's lying, but whatever. He'll be back next year but they will undoubtedly bring in somebody to compete for the job. Then he will have to perform.

dude, everything is about money. EVERYTHING. It makes "money sense" to have alex lie and sit. alex has a real fucker for an agent, a fucking snake in the grass. Trust me if you fill in the dots its easy to see. Anyhow, the worst part of all this is that York will not fire anybody. Pray for us to lose the rest of the games for two reasons. First Nolan might get fired, and second we will have an easier schedule next year.

Im so pissed with the niners, i cant even put my sentences together!
