View Full Version : Giants NYC Parade: Slap in the face to New Jersey!
Badhandhaney 02-06-2008, 09:50 AM The "NY" Giants slapped New Jersey in the goddamn face by having their little victory parade in NYC!!!
NYC has proven time and again they DON'T WANT A FOOTBALL TEAM!!!
Why in the hell should NJ support this team financially, with debt forgiveness, tax breaks, incentives AND a brand new stadium, if they insist on being called a "New York" team?
Not to mention all the money New Jersyans pay for tickets....BELIEVE ME it is the lion's share of seats going to NJ fans.
I am SICK of people from Jersey making excuses for the "NY" logo on their helmets.
New Yorkers call the Giants AND Jets "Jersey Trash" when they are losing, but now they win a Super Bowl and all the New Yorkers jump on the Giants bandwagon.
So go ahead and make fun of Jersey, and talk about how the Giants played at the Polo grounds and Yankee Stadium decades ago.
But the "Philly Eagles don't play in Camden NJ. And the Arizona Cardinals wouldn't have a parade in St. Louis.
But the point is: why should NJ foot the bill, when NY gets all the glory???

KingOfAllWhites 02-06-2008, 11:14 AM I agree it was sort of bullshit...However to say the majority of giants fans are from NJ is ludicrious.
Do you have anything to back that up?

I love it. An entire 5,000-word rant discredited with 6 words. Well played, pussah.

It's not totally ludicrous, but how can you back that up?
You can say this: Jets fans are predominantly from NY (the I-land) and take a chunk out of the NY football fans, and the leftover are Giants fans. Since the Giants moved to NJ first, and the stadium is Giants Stadium, it's fair to say that over the years this has influenced north NJ and made it predominantly a Giants crowd.
So you can guesstimate that NJ Giants fans make up the majority of the fan base, but you can't be sure. The same goes for the Yankees/Mets, you I-landers aren't very friendly when it comes to sharing your teams w/ NJ. :hw:

I certainly can not back it up. But I am not claiming all the fans are from anywhere. Nobody has that type of info. If the turnout of the NYC parade and the NJ parade is any indictions, then its a blowout(I know that its not an indication)...
The Devils play in the same location and they never got a parade in NYC, they dont even get any respect. They play in the same location and contribute about as much to the NY economy as the football teams. They just have Jersey instead of York on their uniform. Beside that, its the same exact situation!
I agree that we are not very friendly at all when it comes to "sharing". It is sort of a subject I am torn on. I can certainlly see both points. However, they pretty much do nothing for New York State (except in Albany where they help the economy during training camp). I just do not think it is crazy to argue they should keep the parade in NJ. However I cant lie, I enjoyed watching the NYC parade yesterday also!

Giants are big in north Jersey, true, but when you add in Manhattan, Westchester, and the Bronx (all strictly Giants country), it probably swings the balance to NY.
LennyD23 02-06-2008, 01:51 PM what puss said^
Truth. This parade needed to be in NY, however.
First since 9-11.
NYC is as much NJ's city as it is NY. Don't let names or an invisible boarder get in the way of that. My fucking home town lost 11 people (many were fathers) in that shit.
It's not bullshit that it was there. I currently live closer to Manhattan than the Meadowlands, anyway.
Not to mention I wouldn't be caught dead in a parade of a million people ever again. (Thanksgiving Day parade nightmares as a child)
How can driving around on floats in a circle around Giants Stadium compete with the emotion and energy of millions around the Canyon of Heros?
KingOfAllWhites 02-06-2008, 01:53 PM Lenny, then why dont the Devils get a parade in Manhattan?
If they did, there would be no discussion!
Froggy 02-06-2008, 01:54 PM NJ has endured far worse slights than the location of a parade (for example: Gov Jim Florio and his tp tax).
Pussah2 02-06-2008, 01:56 PM Lenny, then why dont the Devils get a parade in Manhattan?

because there are no devils fans in ny or nj.

Exactly, the Yankees have no problem sharing, but it's like when a Met fan from NJ goes to Shea, they get looked at like they have two fucking heads. What's with you guys?
As for the Devils, that's a great point. They were even owned by the Yankees! :jj:
The Devils do nothing for NY b/c they were never a NY team. Nobody from NY is gonna come and see them play.
But as for the Giants/Jets, they were NY teams. They've done plenty. They're the ONLY football teams in the area and they happen to play in NJ, the only space where you can cram 70K people and parking in the area.
Hockey, NY has two of it's own teams, the Devils are like overkill, so there is nothing NY about them... but I wouldn't mind sharing them w/ you guys. ;)
Froggy 02-06-2008, 02:03 PM Lenny, then why dont the Devils get a parade in Manhattan?

Devils?

I explain in my next post. NY has ZERO football teams now. They all reside in NJ. Unlike in hockey, the two NY teams never left the state, and the Devils were an expansion team. Why would anybody in Manhattan/LI root for the Devils? Simple math.
There was a time when football was in NY, but now theyre in NJ. Is there a difference in who likes them after the move? NYers like them any less? Not really.
LennyD23 02-06-2008, 02:09 PM Devils?
The elite franchise in hockey in the tri-state area. That one. The one that plays in the nicest arena in the tri-state area. Yea, that one too.

Excellent point. KOAW, what say you to this? Are the Jets a diminished franchise, living only in the hearts of the dying I-land?

I definately think that the majority of Jets fans live and reside on Long Island. However I have no facts to back that up.
LennyD23 02-06-2008, 03:40 PM I definately think that the majority of Jets fans live and reside on Long Island. However I have no facts to back that up.
I'm just bustin balls. About half the people I know are Jets fans. :D
KingOfAllWhites 02-06-2008, 03:46 PM Lenny, WHEN the Islanders win the cup, do they also deserve a parade down the canyon of heroes or do we get the LIE? :D
Disco_stu73 02-06-2008, 03:59 PM I'm just bustin balls. About half the people I know are Jets fans. :D
For whatever it's worth, I am a giant fan living in NYC, and I only know about 2-3 Jet fans.
LennyD23 02-06-2008, 04:14 PM Lenny, WHEN the Islanders win the cup, do they also deserve a parade down the canyon of heroes? :D
I dunno? Do they?
1. Is hockey as big as football?
2. The Rangers hail from Manhattan, and NEVER win the fucking thing.
3. Potvin sucks. :jj:
KingOfAllWhites 02-06-2008, 04:16 PM I think they should get the Canyon of Heroes then also. As long as you wont complain, then that is fair :D
75 people will show up :jj:
tedeso 02-06-2008, 04:18 PM AS A dallas cowboys fan I always associated the NY giants with new jersey and NY jets with new york
scotsalemfan 02-06-2008, 04:21 PM I think most of the Giants live in NJ.
They have summer camp in Albany, NY

For years they used to have camp in Madison, NJ @ Fairleigh Dickinson University.

lol
All teams that have the name "NY" should have a parade, then. It's settled. :tu:
KingOfAllWhites 02-06-2008, 04:26 PM I believe the Giants contract is up with Albany after 2008.
They might be moving. I know the Jets are moving camp to NJ as well
scotsalemfan 02-06-2008, 04:27 PM They must have moved to upstate NY for a payday?
KingOfAllWhites 02-06-2008, 04:28 PM lol

AND the Devils. They deserve it then as well! :D
LennyD23 02-06-2008, 04:28 PM They must have moved to upstate NY for a payday?
I forget when they moved, probably a while ago. I just remember visiting their camp when I was a kid.

LennyD23 02-06-2008, 04:30 PM Kerry Collins used to live 5 minutes away from where I grew up.
We went to the same barber when he lived in NJ.
