View Full Version : larry the cable guy?
drkknght00 02-18-2008, 03:40 PM i just started getting into the bubba show over the past few months, through howard. since then, i've done my best to look around the "redneck" comedy world, because its really not something i would have ever been exposed to, or especially looked for, otherwise.
other than bubba, of course, is there anything else in that category you guys like or recommend?
any larry the cable guy fans?
drkknght00 02-18-2008, 03:43 PM like, for example...
larry the cable guy has a new movie out (with jenny mccarthy!!) called "witless protection". i normally would have never noticed the commercials, but now i actually thought they looked kinda funny. stupid, but funny.
i even got hooked to the official game from the movie site:
http://www.fyrebug.com/displaygame.php?gameid=2058
its like larry pac man. the game is pretty fun!
ill at least try to see the movie, though my girlfriend will probably hate it (and i'm saving up that whine fest for iron man hahaha)
THE BIG BOSS 02-18-2008, 04:06 PM yeah blue collar comedy tour larry the cable guy, bill engvall, ron white, jeff foxworthy all in one show google that shit its funny...and blue collar comedy tour rides again
Other than Blue Collar Comedy, I can't think of anything else like that. But I always thought the concept of Bubba's show being "redneck" was always a bit exaggerated on Sirius. I've heard a few calls on 98 Rock where they would poke fun at rednecks who were mad at Bubba.
On an unrelated matter, I need to make some games for Fyrebug again. I have a few ideas and I need to fix that HPE game.
Major Player 02-18-2008, 04:22 PM I heard on the advertising that Larry is going to have a surprise birthday party at Sirius on Blue Collar 2pm eastern tommorrow (Tuesday) so this would be a good time to get him on the ISDN. He has been on the show via the phone I believe in March of 2006. He said "That's fucked up" about a website that says how many times he has ever used the f word in his comedy act. Larry is a huge Husker mark and may be more politically incorrect than Bubba or Artie with comments like, " I was madder than a queer with lockjaw on Valentine's day." Therefore I am a big fan. He is also good friends with Lisa Lampenelli. I would love Bubba to buddy up with Larry ala the Hulkster and Tony Stewart so Bubba could sit in the skybox with Larry in Memorial Stadium at a Husker game.
Check out some Rodney Carrington stuff. He is the absolute best with this kind of humor. He doesn't come off as redneck as Foxworthy or Larry and he is way more dirty
saintsfan985 02-18-2008, 05:55 PM Yeah. Do a search on YouTube for "Show us your Tits". It is funny as hell!!
emtfromny2 02-18-2008, 06:14 PM I'm not into the Blue Collar Comedy tour, but a lot of other people are so I guess there must be something to it.
SteelerFanWilly 02-18-2008, 06:39 PM Ron White is really funny. He is not a redneck but is damn funny - he tours with the rednecks
driver 02-18-2008, 08:17 PM Larry is pretty much meh. He overuses that accent way too fucking much. Aside from checking out Bill Engvall and Ron "Tater Salad" White you should look into Tim Wilson, a very funny guy who hates Larry for some reason or another.
pokerstar 02-19-2008, 02:02 AM fuck Larry the cable guy, Rodney Carrington would kick his fucking ass
Deathshead 02-19-2008, 04:05 AM Check out some Rodney Carrington stuff. He is the absolute best with this kind of humor. He doesn't come off as redneck as Foxworthy or Larry and he is way more dirty
Agreed, his song Dear Rodney is awesome
Scales 02-19-2008, 11:39 AM The Redneck comedy is not like Bubba's comedy at all IMO. Just because you like Bubba, doesn't mean you will like the Blue Collar stuff.
A lot of comedy snobs, turn their nose up at Larry the Cable guy, Jeff Foxworthy and the bunch. I find both guys funny, and don't tend to overthink what it is that makes my chuckle.
Sure, Larry has 'borrowed' and 'tweaked' some comedy bits - but you'd be suprised how many comedians do that, and most of them get very famous in spite of it.
Jeff Foxworthy is a lot more than "you might be a redneck" - and a lot of the more recent things I've heard from him are genuinely funny, and quite tallented.
Larry the cable guy does come up with some really random things, a lot that are over the top. In that way, I could see how someone could compare some of his stuff to Ned, and chances are if you like the shocking tabboo random comments that Ned is known for, I think some of Larry's stuff would make you laugh too.
Rodney Carrington makes me laugh, and I think he is under rated as a comedian... and has that stigma of being a blue collar / redneck guy.
WillowGlen 02-19-2008, 05:24 PM Ron White is really funny. He is not a redneck but is damn funny - he tours with the rednecks
Ron White was born and raised in Fritch, Texas Population 2032. Back when he was there, it was less than 1000 people. He's more redneck than Larry The Cable Guy will ever be. "Larrys" a character done by a Florida comedian named Dan Whitney.
Does this guy look familiar? The best thing I can say about his act is that hes funnier than Artie. The bad part is he laughs at his own jokes more than Jackie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VROn7ZvVoW8 Larry spent his first 16 years in Pawnee City Nebraska which is actually a pretty shitty redneck town. That part of the state is the shittiest part by far and had a helluva a meth problem 5 years ago. It is in the border county to the county where the movie "Boys Don't Cry" was based. According to my sister the people there do have a bit of southern accent. Richard Christy comes from the Kansas City area with that hillbilly accent which is pretty near there.
Holy shit, he is a genius at acting like a hick. It's a good thing he changed, that other act was terrible. Would have ended up as another second rate comic playing Chuckles every weekend. On a side note, did anybody see Rodney's show when it was on ABC. I thought it was really good- too bad it didn't catch on.

Larry tells the story all the time about how he came to be LTCG. He used to do a call in to a radio show using the LTCG character on a regular basis and it was a big hit(pretty sure that is how I heard him explain it on a radio show). So he was smart enough to start using more and more in his act until it became his act. pretty smart man to the tune on many milllions of dollars.
Love me some Larry the Cable guy

Love me some Larry the Cable guy He's a pretty smart man to be such a big Husker fan. :D
Bubba Soprano 02-24-2008, 08:45 AM His 15 minutes of fame ran out a long time ago
WillowGlen 02-25-2008, 01:16 PM Larry The Cable Guy's latest attempt a movie career, Witless Protection grossed an estimated $2.1M from 1,333 screens for a poor average of $1,643
Ouch!!

I don't know about this, I live 10 miles away from sanford fl, and most everything he says about the place is true
buck_1469 02-29-2008, 07:32 AM Check out Sirius 103...I think it is alot better than Raw Dog (which is great).
Rodney Carrington and Ron White do kick ass, along with everyone else. We never got to hear this type of comedy, except Hee-Haw up here in New England. Great to listen to if you're tired of all the replays
