:jj::jj::jj::jj:

Yankee slugger Jason Giambi wears a gold lamé, tiger-stripe thong under his uniform when he wants to break out of a slump - and he shares it with hitless teammates who want to get back on track.

"I only put it on when I'm desperate to get out of a big slump," he tells Portfolio.com.

Over the years, the 37-year-old All-Star has left the "golden thong" in the lockers of slumping teammates Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Johnny Damon, Robin Ventura and Robinson Cano.

"All of them wore it and got hits," he reports. "The thong works every time."

Why would he possibly make this public? Steroids and thongs, doesn't sound like a great combo to me. :shake:

What I like about this story is that it means that Jeter probably spread his genital herpes to the rest of the team.

debunked, via peter abraham:

It was a good story - 10 years ago.

Giambi was given it as a joke by an equipment rep when he played for Oakland. It has been hanging in his locker ever since. The Boston Globe did a story about it once, as have a lot of papers.

But Conde Nast Portfolio magazine decided it was a “secret” and put together a story based on old quotes. Giambi said the writer never spoke to him. Then the New York tabloids got involved and pretended it was a new story. ESPN, of course, hopped on board.

So yesterday the clubhouse is full of clueless TV types (and a few clueless newspaper types) who were under the impression the Yankees all dress in lingerie.

It’s a strange business sometimes.

and Giambi washing them afterwards himself. Only a fag would touch a thong after a GUY just wore it!

honestly, i don't feel like doing the work. Pete Abe is a beat writer with the Yankees and he would know these stories better than anyone. He is with the team for just about every game and knows many of the guys on a personal level.

I don't need to "debunk" the article. Pete did it for me. I'm not going to spend time searching the internet to "prove" to a bunch of dudes that the quotes are old and taken out of context when you guys wouldn't believe it anyways. What's the point?

And so what if he masturbates into the thing and rubs his semen all over his asshole? I don't give a shit. it's not helping him. I'm sure there are MANY other players who do weird, superstitious things thinking it's going to help them.

Your response, "yeah, but Giambi's story went public so that's why we talk about it."

Good. Talk about it and have fun. :D

Great story, thats funny shit...Im surprised he said something about it...You have to be in a desperate slump to try that...I guess in a way it could help a players mentality...It's to remind you not to take yourself so serious, your playing a kids game after all...

Sorry, did not mean to bother you during the subway serier. Just when you get a chance, maybe post a link to one of the articles. I only ask because I think it backs up your story. Without any proof, it is purely just more talk. I just want to see the article so i can shut up my Mets friends.

Thanks,

I think it only adds fuel to the fire. It will be interesting to see if he ever finds it. He is already beginning to backtrack with blaming it on Giambi.

I agree, at least he had the balls to write me back. He easily could have fucking ignored me.

However, writing what he wrote because of what Giambi" told him "his horrible journalism. Especially when he does not attempt to verify what he is told. Isnt that like journalism 101?

I mean it would not be a hard thing to find it either and verify it. If what Giambi said was true ,and "alot of papers" had articles about it.

I think it proves that this guy is a Yankee fan first, journalist second. That is an important thing to know when reading a guys article. Ill take what he says with a grain of salt 99% of the times.
