View Full Version : To Bubba and Crew, a rant, statement, and observation

Albert Einstein defines Insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Antithesis is Greek for "setting opposite" which is a counter-proposition and denotes a direct contrast to the original proposition

Sirius Radio like many other independent concepts claimed to be free, a rebel, simply the antithesis of it's main stream counter-part which inevitably drew in those seeking out what defines being an American, Human, and ultimately the foundation of living in a free society... Unfortunately I believe we have found the definition of Big Business.

I've came to the realization that Sirius is slowly becoming terrestrial radio in hopes to capture exactly what they seemingly battled against with their cry for "no more bull shit". When I received my Sirius Radio in December 2006 as a gift I was simply amazed by the complete freedom displayed by what seemed to be a company that epitomized free speech, the United States, and free will...

I'm sad to say that I sit here now listening to a show being replayed for what must be the 9th time this week by a company that is obviously jockeying for the conformity and comfort of terrestrial radio and ultimately the cash that comes along with the "main stream". Having said that I also sit here as a paying member with multiple scripts and countless referrals waiting to hear the Friday version of Bubba for the first time today.

I suppose looking at it from business stand point (which it is) I can hardly fault Sirius Suits in their quest for the all mighty dollar but for the listeners it means a slow and steady fall into what we all ran from in corperate friendly entertainment...The same people who blame video games for violence.

I think we all seen this in every form of entertainment ranging from the UFC, MTV, and ESPN all of which couldn't be further apart on the entertainment spectrum.

When I started watching the UFC/Pitt fighting/Pride it was an underground scene that prided itself on battling the main stream (see: no more bullshit) and having no desire to join the ranks of what they claimed to loathe. This lasted right up until a potential monetary windfall came knocking. At this point they started changing rules in an attempt to gain the acceptance of Athletic commissions, the general public, and corperate sponsors waiving a fat paycheck. This also corresponded with watered down $50 PPV's starring some idiot T.U.F participant who is about to be completely wrecked by a Japanese fighter no one has been told to like. The days of no holds barred 16 man tournaments where every fight ended in a Sub/KO for the whopping price of twenty bills are over and the days of some douche bag kid from Cali who is marketable getting a bunch of tomato can opponents in an effort to get him to 16-0 is now our reality. (This is where I should apologize to Jaeger…forgive me for I am young)

I don't even need to explain MTV as the change is so painfully obvious it has brought a once mighty music industry to it's knees and barring an immediate and drastic change has most likely killed anything resembling quality music. That said I would also make an observation in that while we all cry for the days gone by MTV is 10x more profitable than "back in the day"...Which does nothing to ease the pain of seeing the "hills" in place of Pearl Jam videos

I believe we are now witnessing the beginning of the end to the extremely short lived Censor free, No more bullshit radio which will ultimately receive its death blow when the merger is completed. Howard is the last radio personality with the power to demand true censor free radio and with his contract and career winding down I believe the Tim Sabeans are slowly positioning the pawns to kill what we all enjoyed for a short time.

There will no doubt be another start up who claims, and will remain true to it's initial business plan but it will no doubt end in the same way...The corperate over thinkers betraying the fans who ironically gave them the ability to jump into the main stream.

The change in show has nothing to do with Bubba and Crew and everything to do with Sirius' search for the almighty dollar. There is no better proof of this than Bubba's morning show success due to pushing the terrestrial envelope while the Sirius show slowly fades due to the constant pulling in of the reigns by management.

I apologize in advance for the long winded rant, and please let the Colon Powell pictures begin

Thank you Sirius it was fun while it lasted and congrats on attaining mainstream...it only took you walking over the subscribers who allowed you to gain this level.

Intelligent outlook except Tim Sabien most likely could care less about what Bubba says but its his job to make sure Bubba conforms to the conract that Sirius has him by.

I think how Tim handled the aftermath was incredilous but he really doesn't make the rules of "censorship" up. As Bubba has said many times its the lawyers fucking things up.

I think its the BS of this merger that is the biggest issue. Both companies are running scared the won't get approved & a 3 month issue has turned into fucking SIXTEEN. Everyone (including Howard) are nervous that the government is just waiting for a big mistake & all the lawyers are running things. I think if this merger was approved a year ago a lot of this discussion would be moot.

This delay of the merger is killing the industry & XM went public with a need for ANOTHER loan to hold them over until the merger ... more $$$ Sirius will be paying back if the merger occurs.

Tim was a supporter of Howards with his FCC crap & I doubt he is for censorship but I do feel he is cracking from the pressure & all the blame & Thursday at 5:40 EST proved it

I think often times listeners are looked upon as sheep, marks, zombies that listen regardless of content. The truth is many are highly intelligent professionals who love the escape from our reality on a daily basis and not coincidently we also have the disposable income that allow us to spend $40 a month on "shock the puss" bits.

Intelligence is appreciated and should be recongnized in this forum. It's apparent Sirius does not fear a mass exoudous by the Bubba subscribers and one can only assume this sign of arrogance is due to their assumption we are nothing more than sheep... Actually the more likely scenerio is they think the majority of fans are FTE's etc and thus won't recognize the dumbing down of the show. That alone should stand as an outrage that Sirius doesn't see FTE's as a flight risk due to the constant filtering of Bubba's show. In my opinion this is an open statement to the working man public that "we" meaning Sirius will do what they want with the knowledge they can convince those (their subscribers) of lower intelligence regardless of what they hear it's actually Free Radio...

Still waiting for the show I pay $40 a month for but am not the slightest bit irritated about hearing some whore for the 10th time who Howard interviewed in 1986...

so do you think if in the perfect world, the merger was already approved with no additional conditions placed on content, do you think Bubba would have been treated the way he has been in the last 6-8 months?

I think a lot better, the merger has EVERYONE on edge & its draining MILLIONS from Siri

The merger is the biggest instigator in my opinion ... most are trickle down issues from that

Do I think Bubba would be treated like gold? Prob not but better deff

Bluegreysky I am impressed with your writing skills.

Thanks, I've been trying to figure out exactly why a company would treat an "earner" like Bubba so terribly, and then I saw the Albert Einstein quote which I provided in my original post...

For some reason it provoked the response in question

Of course it could have been the Belvedere Vodka

Thanks again

If the interview by Howard today with Bubba wasn't the definition of toe-ing the company line with regard to Bubba vs Tim I don't know what is.

In my opinion this interview was the nail in the coffin of No more Bullshit, censor free radio...
