View Full Version : Which Team Is More Pathetic, The Mets or The Phillies?

Both teams are shit and will assuredly disappoint their fans in the stretch run. If one of them makes the playoffs they'll go out in the first round. Guaranteed. It's more likely, given each team's proclivity for choking, that they'll both miss the playoffs and let the Marlins take the NL East (and you know what happens when the Marlins make the post season).

You must admit that when the Giants made the playoffs it was a total longshot that they would even get to the Super Bowl let alone win it. The only people who were predicting a Giants' Super Bowl victory were brick-headed fans who didn't know any better and would've picked the Giants to win no matter what. Yes, those few die-hards turned out to be right because the Giants went on a miracle run that few could have ever predicted.

Of course I'm sure plenty of my predictions on here have happened (remember my prediction on Pedro Martinez at the beginning of the MLB season this year?) but the only ones people remember are the wrong ones.

Phils are too inconsistent for me to have any hope. But i GOTTA have hope since I know the Eagles will suck once again.

Phils seem relaxed this year. Maybe that's a good sign?! :dontknow:

Yeah, I do remember;

Pedro will hit the DL again within 3 weeks after he returns. He's done. Maybe the Mets can trade away the franchise to the Giants for Tim Lincecum.

Last I checked Pedro is far from done and had another great outing last night only to have the pen blow it again.

Any other great predictions Kreskin?

Yanks are playing like crap now, but the Mets are the most pathetic in baseball. They have to make up for last season's collapse, but aren't doing such a good job. The bull pen is aweful and their payroll is very high.

phils have been in a bit of a slump but no one is making them pay for it...yet...the bats must get going soon or it will be trouble the bullpen is begining to show some signs of stress and if lidge doesn't feel better asap we arer toast....kendrick is either great or shit...but he's young....cole tongiht so we get the win...if we score him more then 2 runs....

Pedro is 3-3 with a 5.47 era and has been on the DL more than he's been healthy this season! He's done as a pitcher the Mets or anybody else can count on for consistency over the long haul. Sure, he's capable of giving a decent performance every now and then but he is so far from the dominant pitcher he once was that you gotta wonder if any team will bother to take a chance on him next season. Well, the Mets probably will, and anoint him their #2 starter again.

I know it's painful but you have to admit I nailed the call on Pedro's overall effectiveness this year. Sorry.

The Giants aren't good but we all knew that going in. In fact, they are doing better than most expected. It's actually been a pretty good year for them considering they don't have hardly any decent hitters in their lineup.

When have I ever said the Giants are good?

As for my judgment on the Mets and Phillies, it is based on 1) watching both teams ridiculous inconsistent play over the past few weeks, 2) the Mets thorough lack of a bullpen, and 3) the two Phillies on my fantasy team roster (Hamels and Utley) just stink it up since the All-Star break. OK, maybe Hamels and Utley haven't been stinking it up but they've been awfully inconsistent from a fantasy perspective. Of course Hamels biggest problem is the team can't seem to score any runs when he pitches. That trend will go over real well in post season play.

It stems from the joy I get from razzing Mets fans and my frustration over Hamels and Utley's inconsistency since the All-Star Break.

Lincecum and Cain aren't leaving anytime soon. The Giants know what they have, which is a really talented young pitching staff. They are a couple of good bats, and a year or two more of experience for Lincecum, Cain, and Sanchez, from being a real contender. If they were going to part with Lincecum or Cain they would have unloaded them this year. You know there were teams knocking on their door for those two arms.

haha somehow it always come down to the yankees payroll. They overpay average players without a doubt and then never use them or get rid of them. The yankees might of had just a couple important injuries this year and Hughes and Kennedy just didn't get it done. I'd say the mets are a better team than the phillies except the bullpen is horrendous.

Yeah, so I got the first round thing wrong. No prognosticator is right 100% of the time.

And, the problem with the Phillies chances now is that if I predict they lose they may just win, but if I'm rooting for them then they'll probably lose. So it's a tough call to make.

I think the Chargers have a great shot at the Super Bowl this year if Rivers stays healthy and Tomlinson can continue to regain his old form. I'd like to see it happen!

As for the Phillies, well, they certainly defied the odds by winning it all (especially with that wretched pitching staff) but the Series was so boring that I doubt anybody outside of Philly even noticed.

You must be one of those stats guys. You probably thought the Rays had good pitching. You need to observe sports more astutely to get the real picture. Playing fields (size, weather, lighting, surface conditions ect), game situations, roster strengths and weaknesses have alot of impact on ERA, wins, losses ect. Philadelphia has a small park. Pop outs in some parks are HRs in Philly. That is just one example of how their ERA is higher than other pitching staffs.

You should take some time to learn about the sports. You may even find them more enjoyable and some of your predictions may even start to make sense

Why can't you just admit you’re a fucking moron. Wretched pitching staff who are you talking about? Hamels is the one of the best lefties in baseball and had an epic postseason performance that will go done as one of the best in baseball. Myers was lights out in 2nd half, Moyer won 16 games, and down the stretch Blanton was great. Not to mention Madson and Romero team up to be the best righty/lefty combo in the 8th inning and Lidge is the best closer in baseball.

Enjoy watching those Giants finish in last place next year.

Oh c'mon...outside of Hamels the Phillies' pitching is mediocre at best. Like the NY Giants last year, they just happened to put it all together at the right time. Moyer is not going to repeat what he did this season next year. Myers? Who the fuck knows with that head case? Blanton was a mediocre pitcher in Oakland (in a pitcher's park, mind you) and didn't show that much with Philly this year until the very end. He'll continue to be inconsistent in the future. As for Lidge, yeah, he had a great year. So what? A good closer does not make for a good pitching staff. It's the Phillies' starters (besides Hamels) who are suspect.

Here's a prediction for you all: NO WAY DO THE PHILLIES WIN IT ALL AGAIN NEXT YEAR!!! Have fun waiting another 28 years for you next title.

p.s. And I know the SF Giants suck. I've never stated otherwise. But I would still take their starting pitchers over the Phillies' starters at this point in time. Lincecum > Hamels and Cain is better than any other Phillies starter. The Giants just need to get a few hitters and they'll be competitive. Whether they can do it or not, I don't know. They are a cursed franchise. We all know this.
