ask your sirius hardware/software here.
sirius does allows streaming of their MUSIC channel. not the talk or the sports ones. wonder if the "stern effect" will change this...
sirius is on the DISH satellite TV system. so if you are a DISH owner... BUT, again, this is only the MUSIC streams so NO TALK streams, which i assume the HS show will be in. so call DISH NETWORK to get the TALK streams or this will be additional hardware you will need to get.
http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/programming/sirius/index.shtml
right now, the best bet for a hardware solution is a "plug and play" unit.
http://sirius.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Sirius/CachedPage&c=Page&cid=1065475754231
this is a small box that then docks onto a car or home cradle. that way, you are not stuck with sitting in the car when you arrive at work or at home and trying to listen to the show.
current hardware costs goes around $150-$200.
the receiver is around $100. the car cradle kit is around $50. the home kit is also around $50.
this is for the audiovox unit i got.
one thing to remember, this is SATELLITE. so the antenna will need a LINE OF SIGHT to the sky. granted some major cities have a terrestrial repeaters so you could be in like a downtown garage and still receive a signal. maybe... ;)
current monthly fees are $12.95 a month for service fees. the CEO of sirius said this will NOT be an additional cost unlike what XM does for the O&A channel and the playboy channel.

KOBERULES 10-07-2004, 02:30 AM Will sirius get me laid?
aj1000101 10-07-2004, 02:39 AM only if you have 12" dick or have lots of coke...
trailer_parks 10-07-2004, 03:25 AM I've had Sirius for about 14 months now... I got a good deal through Crutchfield that gave me the Sirius receiver for free when I bought a Kenwood head unit and the Sirius Antenna. So, I don't have any extra boxes on my dash, and I control the Sirius right through the Kenwood. For $220, I got the complete Sirius setup and a new CD player for the car. They might still be running that deal.
I like that setup better than the add-on boxes because you control it all through the stereo, and it's a cleaner looking setup.

sirius does allows streaming of their MUSIC channel.
Is there any digital out on the sirius hardware ? When you say it allows streaming you mean on a LAN or over the internet ? If you have multiple recivers at the same address will they actviate them for no extra charge ?
ChronoSkooma17 10-07-2004, 10:58 AM If you buy the boombox,is that all you need?
Austinchota 10-07-2004, 12:36 PM I need home, car, office and portable. I won't be buying anything until next year anyway. ;)

:(
i'm sure that by jan 2006, there will be something like that...
someone has hacked the XM roady system into a "wearable" device about 6 months ago.
problem is that they want to stick a gigantic display. that's the thing that makes the receiver so big.
i'm going to CES in about 3 months. i'll see what kind of cool things are coming down the pipe...
aj1000101 10-07-2004, 02:42 PM If you buy the boombox,is that all you need?
funny part is that the boombox is nothing but a BIGGER portable cradle for the "plug and play" units.
the boombox is a $100 cradle. so far...
again, this is for the audiovox unit that i have. it's big and heavy since it requires like 4 or 6 D cell batteries.
kender 10-07-2004, 02:44 PM I am sure by 2006 Sirius will come up with some kind of walkman style hardware if not I guess I need to find tapes of his shows.

no dig out YET... someone has hacked the XM PCR though for a toslink output
you log into sirius website and you stream MUSIC from them to your machine. the quality is like a semi good rip from a CD...
multiple receiver are an extra $7 each per month.
http://sirius.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Sirius/CachedPage&c=Page&cid=1065475754240
i know.. this is the part that ticks me off the most.
i guess if you have friends, you can lump the subscription (up to 4 receivers per account) and save a few bucks that way. but the single account will be charged for all receivers...
Bullitt 10-07-2004, 03:04 PM Unless they come out with a Walkman type unit, they can shove it. If the antenna needs to be line of site, what happens when you go under a bridge? Why do they have a commercial showing a guy at work in a high rise building listening, if you need a fuckin' outdoor antenna to make the thing work. At work, I can't walk around with a fuckin' satalite dish on my head like Al Franken.
aj1000101 10-07-2004, 03:21 PM terrestrial repeaters.
that's how that XM commercial... well that kinda exagerates a bit... works.
neither XM nor sirius would publicly list the cities that have repeaters, but you can assume if you are in downtown san francisco, there's a good chance you can get a signal if are in say, a parking garage (well not a concrete bunker type garage...)
http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=12874&langId=-1
that's the pix of the audiovox boom box unit with the plug and play unit attached to it...
the antenna can be uncoiled or coiled in the back.

no. sirius did start an all elvis stream. 24/7. all elvis all the time.
your best bet is to search the playlist of sirius and xm.
use the song search here:
http://www.siriusbackstage.com/songseek.php
also check the advance search feature.
disclosure: i wrote the song search on that website... ;) the data is received from a very well-done hack of a sirius receiver. but sometimes it's not complete. but about 95-98% complete.
for xm, check out www.xmfan.com or www.xm411.com
aj1000101 10-07-2004, 04:23 PM the data for the searches only goes as back from feb of 04. sirius started longer than that.

Is the company going to last long enough to carry the show?
atomizer 10-07-2004, 04:31 PM Hey aj,
While you're answering, and I'm too lazy to look it up myself :p
I'm living in Japan - will I get reception over here? If so, this definitely makes my life a lot better starting in '06! I miss the show massively....
aj1000101 10-07-2004, 04:35 PM mostly a continental usa. sirius canada is supposed to be starting up. but you know... canada MUST inject their own programming into the mix.
i heard someone driving to mexico city and receiving it there.
see this graphic:
http://www.tiger-usa.com/sirius-xmorbitanim.gif
the 3 sirius birds make a figure-8 pattern as it goes from south/central america to north america.
that's as much reception you're gonna get.
so sorry for you in japan... :(
atomizer 10-07-2004, 04:38 PM Bah!! Thanks anyway, aj.
Guess I'll have to make do with the wacky tv they have here!

for a while, sirius was behind XM in both subscribers and stock prices.
but you know, this will give sirius a kick in the pants.
i heard their stock went up $.13 while xm went down $.65 ($4.00 vs $28.35, sirius vs XM).
aj1000101 10-07-2004, 04:40 PM Bah!! Thanks anyway, aj.

at least you have the wacky 24 hour porn cable channel...
granted they cant show bush... ;)
If Howard does his usual 6-11 Eastern slot on Sirius, does anyone think they'll repeat it later on? Does anyone who has Sirius know if they repeat talk radio stuff at different times for those who can't always listen at the regular time?
aj1000101 10-07-2004, 04:48 PM some of the mixed music shows are repeated.
but i do think they will rerun the show at least 2 more times per day on that one stream.
it's be silly...

I know! It's all pixilated. The upside is they can't show cocks, either...
JOSHMAN 10-07-2004, 05:44 PM I've read somewhere that you can hack into the receiver somehow and get service for free. Anyone else see that?

it';s possible...
but you still have to shell out for the hardware.

odictamis 10-25-2004, 06:11 PM I got Sirius a week ago, I love it. I bought the JVC KT-STR2000 (I tried XACT, but liked the JVC better) w/car and home kit. I take it back and forth between the car and my apt. It was pretty easy to get going. Just get a signal and call in and they activate it POW!!. Took 10 minutes. The only problem I have had so far, is we have no terrestial signal here where I live. My SAT signal is almost always full and strong. I'm not sure how the terrestial signals are in the big cities, but i live in a small town in NC. So if I lose the line of site, I lose signal. Not really that big of a deal, but it sucks because i can't use it at work because I have no windows. I would be curious to hear from other people about how their terrestial signal is and where they live. Sorry about being long winded, but wanted to give everyone my experience a week into it.
King Of All Chris's 10-26-2004, 02:06 AM I have a home unit that I got last weekend. I'm in the sticks of Missouri. I have an outside antenna but it sits on top of the unit and works fine in the house. I don't think I will even put it outside. The music streams are great and I like the Raw Dog comedy channel. I can't wait for Howard.
Schnoffle 10-26-2004, 10:47 AM Great info here...will have to pay the extra $7.00 and buy two boomboxes/walkmans things since hubby listens at his work, too. Supposedly production might not be able to keep up when it gets closer to Howard's switch, do you agree, and think we should buy it now, or wait till the new technology? Also, do you have to activate the service right away or can we just have the equipment and wait to activate....TIA for your ideas on this guys...
King Of All Chris's 10-26-2004, 12:04 PM When you get a radio the only channel it picks up is the preview channel. But you could just pay for a month and see how you like it.
