View Full Version : Why are people (morons) are saying Howard will fail on Sirius?
Madbandit 10-09-2004, 04:22 PM Jealousy.
When they say Howie's funnier (or profitable to the likes of Morality in Media  ) when dealing with the FCC, I shake my head, thinking is it better for a woman to be raped if she's wearing a sexy outfit? That's asshole logic coming from no-talent assholes.
It's true Sirius has 600,000 subscribers, but what if Stern gets 2/4 of his 12 million fans, maybe 3/4 of them. What then?
I laugh and sigh at the total inanity of people who can't deal with a man who's probably the most honest entertainer in my lifetime.
Modane 10-09-2004, 05:18 PM People are idiots.
It is a fact.

Yeah. No wonder I don't have any friends. I'm too smart, too observant for normal people. Oh well.
Gangorn 10-09-2004, 08:58 PM he only needs to get 10% of his audience to join Sirius.
glad I bought this two years ago when it was dirt cheap.
Shizat 10-09-2004, 09:48 PM I'm on a college budget so I guess I will have to resort to dling the shows. The thing howard doesn't get is that he is going to lose all of his 18-21 year old listeners because they cant afford this shit.

With that crowd, I don't think it's money that's the problem. The fact that it takes extra effort will be the issue there.
Modane 10-09-2004, 10:25 PM It'll be somewhat tough for me, but I will find a way if the legalities ever get worked out for Sirius to broadcast up here.
he isnt going to loose ALL his 18-21 year old listerners.
MANY of them can afford this shit.!!!!! GOD
just because YOU cannot afford something doesnt mean ALL of your peers cant.
artiefan711 10-09-2004, 10:44 PM hey guys, thought i would add this to the topic....i beleive there is no doubt howard will cause an EXPLOSION in subscriptions for Sirius....heres what happend to me today....
i went to one of the local 6 best buy stores in the milwaukee area....i was browsing the satillite radio stuff in their car audio department and was approached by an employee, he asked me if i needed help and i said i was just browsing in preperation for buying sirius radio for next year when howard stern starts broadcasting...the guy said "dude, thats crazy, you are like the 10th person today to mention howard stern and sirius radio!!" then we talked for a few minutes about howard and what not....now keep in mind....howard has NEVER been on in milwaukee before...the closest station is in chicago and its not recievable up here in milwaukee...so if at ONE best buy store in ONE day, in a market howard has NEVER been on in, there were about 10 inquiries into sirius radio and a few purchases....come on...its going to be incredible...hes definately going to give sirius an incredible boost....i cant wait to see how things play out but even in a market like milwaukee, which has never had him on the radio, people are already excited about it....i can only imagine the reaction in other cities where he has a huge following built already...
artiefan711 10-09-2004, 10:45 PM dude, the parts for putting a sirius system in your car now are less than 150 bucks....come on that is NOT out of reach for anyone..weve got 15 months till hes on...so save 10 freaking dollars a month and youve got it covered....then 13 bucks a month for the service...13 bucks isnt even a 1/2 tank of gas anymore....its definately within reach of anyone above poverty level to get satillite radio.
sathack 10-09-2004, 11:09 PM A couple months before Stern switches they'll probably have a special deal on sirius like $8 a month for a year. Or order a year for $70. And price decrease on hardware. But they will probably eventually even their prices at about $10 a month. I think most will just pay and others will probably steal it. I dont think for Howard its about the money I think it's about doing what he wants. Complete control. He gets paid no matter what so doesn't care how you listen to his show. But Stern will definately do everything in his power to get his fans the best deal. Because I think he knows without the fans he's nothin.
Purity Knight 10-09-2004, 11:42 PM Who is saying he'll fail?
artiefan711 10-10-2004, 12:31 AM i dont see how Viacom, Krock, and Tom Chiusano will be able to handle the next year...howard clearly will want to keep his audience up to date on whats going on with sirius, what the new channels will be about, etc...whether they like it or not, howards show will become a free commercial for Sirius...more than it already has
burn1 10-10-2004, 01:43 AM Connect the dots...connect the projects.
...Don is way busy getting busy.
KA-Ching!$! :)
snap snap carrot
Stern will do fine in the long run
Prices on hardware will come down
and getting satellite will be as
common as getting cable

ricky 10-10-2004, 02:42 AM I think Howard will be a success financially. That is, I don't think he'll lose any money on the deal.
But I'm looking at the big picture. To me, success is his ability to entertain and influence the masses. This is where I'm pessimistic.
Cable TV is already established. People spend hours in front of the TV. But people use radio as a convenience. I don't know how many people will bother spending $10 or 10 cents on radio.
That's just my feeling. His humor, social & political commentary are more important than whether he can do an "It's just wrong" bit.
Madbandit 10-10-2004, 07:36 PM Who is saying he'll fail?
Rival broadcasters, pundits, moral morons and some "fans", but I understand your optimitism.

That's fucked up, man. I went to one Radio Shack and asked for a Sirius information pamphlet. I didn't mention anything about Howard, but the salesman was more than helpful.
Ozzy5150 10-10-2004, 08:48 PM He only needs 1 million new subscribers for them to break even, he has at least 12 million now....do the math, Sirius will make a FUCKLOAD of money
SternFanMiami 10-10-2004, 10:53 PM well if they got 1,000,000 listeners@ $12.99 a pop, that's $12,999,999 per month & $155,999,988 yearly from howards listeners alone. The deal is supposed to be worth $100m(to include facilities and salaries) per year for 5 years. If howard moves 1m listeners they stand to make $279,999,940 over five years, and that's without the fan base increasing! Which leads me to agree with sathack, they have a lot of room to give all kinds of incentives on equipment and service contracts. I personally think the numbers will be even higher in the following years.
pghsternfan 10-11-2004, 04:11 PM If teenagers have cell phones, blackberry's, piercing and all kind of other expenses, they will pay for it. Many more car manufacturer's are putting in satellite radio into new cars, so that makes it even easier option.
