View Full Version : Report: Padres make Peavy available
Petey Arms 10-14-2008, 03:20 PM The North County Times reports that the Padres have made Jake Peavy available in trades.
Peavy is just 10 months removed from signing a four-year, $52 million contract extension, but a 99-loss season can make a team do funny things. "This was a different year than last year," general manager Kevin Towers said. "You're arguably talking about moving one of the top pitchers in the game. But it's not a 100-percent given. Nothing is imminent." It'll be interesting to see what type of market there is for Peavy given that CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Ben Sheets are all free agents.

Pimpy McPimp 10-14-2008, 03:28 PM They will probaly trade Peavy for a bag of balls.
John Moores is a liar, a cheap fucking prick and a Grade A asshole.
I hope his wife takes him to the cleaners in the divorce. :jj:
Gindaloonatic 10-14-2008, 03:32 PM Peavy is owed a lotta doe...its going to have to be a major market team with some top 25 type prospects to offer and some salary relief negotiation.

This was in the Boston Globe on Sunday. Apparently he has a no-trade clause and has said he won't pitch in the AL.
"As part of the $52-million extension Peavy received last season from CEO Sandy Alderson and Towers, he also obtained full no-trade powers through the 2010 season.
Peavy's consent, therefore, would be needed for a trade to any of the other 29 clubs.
What's more, Peavy told The San Diego Union-Tribune on Saturday that if it ever comes to it, he would only accept a trade to a National League team. If so, that would remove two of baseball's biggest spenders that Towers long has cultivated for trade purposes – the Yankees and Red Sox." Boston Globe

Feel sorry for the Padres fans, looks like they are more about making money then winning if they trade him.
Vernon Dozier 10-15-2008, 02:13 AM Since Peavy has a record of 1000-0 at Dodgers stadium , maybe he wants to be a Dodger....
Towers would ask for the entire farm so it's most likely a pipe dream...

Towers would ask for the entire farm so it's most likely a pipe dream... Especially since that shithead freely admits to hating the Dodger's.
KingOfAllWhites 10-15-2008, 04:18 AM Towers would never trade him within the division, NEVER!
I say most likely he goes to the AL. So Towers does not have to watch Peavy burn him.
Petey Arms 10-15-2008, 08:57 AM Jake Peavy told reporters at the end of the season that he would not accept a trade to the AL.
When asked about his trade stance again Tuesday in the midst of reports that he's on the block Peavy responded that he didn't "want to get into any speculation." His preference is important given the full no-trade clause included in his recent contract extension. "Jake has a strong preference to stay in the National League," agent Barry Axelrod said. Alexrod added that "Jake would only approve a trade to a team with a solid chance of winning," specifically mentioning Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and St. Louis as cities that fit "his and his family's lifestyle."

There was a rumor going around that Moores was selling off his 49% of the team ownership due to his divorce.
Anyways to the point ... If this is true as a loyal fan of San Diego sports i have to say FUCK the Padres . Whats next ? i have an idea let give away Adrain Gonzales for nothing and get some slappy to replace him , Goodbye Brian Giles , Cya Kouz , i know your a future hall of famer but don't let the door hit you in the ass Trevor . The only time this team spent any money was when they went to the World Series in '98 and that was because they wanted Petco Park on the election ballet. this team deserves to be in the cellar year in and year out . I'll be there next season just because I'm that kinda fan but this is some bullshit
OB_WALL_KANOBI 10-16-2008, 02:09 AM They've already came out and said they are going to re-sign both Hoffman and Giles. I see this as a good move if we get the same kind of deal that the A'S got for Haren or the Indians got for CC.Three top prospects and two major league ready players for Peavy and Kouz would be perfect. And the money is not the issue in trading Peavy. If you compare his salary to other pitchers of his caliber he's a down right steal.
