View Full Version : Sirius - listen to Stern online?
mikelawr 11-07-2004, 10:09 PM I have read that if you subscribe to sirius then you have access to listen to the stations online. Does anyone know if all stations are available online, or just a select few? I am wondering if we'll be able to listen to Stern online... It would be a very easy way to listen at work...

for now you can't - it looks like the reason is that they're worried about people downloading the shows -
mikelawr 11-07-2004, 10:19 PM Oh well... That sucks. I'll just have to figure out a way to run an antenna to the window...

yup - I think they'll figure something out before stern gets on though - they have to - not everyone listens while in their car
Purity Knight 11-07-2004, 10:21 PM I'm planning on listening to Howard at work....... is reception gonna be a problem? Do I need to be by a window or something? If so I'm gonna be very disappointed. :(

Me too. Not only will I have to pay to listen but now I'll have to run wires to the roof to get the feed since there are no windows where I work. :(
mikelawr 11-07-2004, 10:30 PM I have heard that there are people at my office who listen to satellite radio at their desk, but they do have to put an antenna by a window. In addition, the antenna has to point in a certain direction so if your window doesn't point in the direction then you're screwed.
bababooey2uall 11-07-2004, 11:22 PM I will just keep downloading the show from the newsgroups as some kind soul will probably post it. I may subscribe too if they get the cost of the radios down low enough.
mikelawr 11-08-2004, 12:55 PM It would be nice to be able to hear it live though... If you download from the newsgroups you'd be a day behind...
nikibs 11-08-2004, 01:10 PM i get the shows off the newsgroups just for the convinience but i would for sure suport howard and subscribe the day he starts broadcasting.
i am not familliar with the technology in depth , however i have heard that sirrius has local rebroadcast cells in most major metropolitan areas to help with interfering buildings. i have also seen sirrius at a indoors at a retail store with an antenna sitting next to the receiver.
as for the online stream i checkd the 3 day free pass on sirrius. as a guest you do not have access to anything else but the music channels (all news and talk channels are off). Again this is only guest access . maybe a full subscriber would have access to this channels. why don't you just call sirrius and ask.

Spazzmatazz 11-06-2005, 08:02 AM I was on the phone with Sirius last nite switching my account to a new receiver. I asked was this call "being recorded for training purposes", to which she replied that it was.
Then I asked them why there was no Howard online. She told me some bullshit about licensing and copyrights kept them from putting it on the site. To which I told her that I was sure they had someone there whose job it was to fix such problems, and could please kick them in their asses and tell them to get busy on it everytime one of them passes by her desk. This was met with much laughter.
But if every Stern/Sirius subscriber called/emailed... Well you get the idea.. ;)
douchebigelow 01-20-2006, 08:22 AM i got the damn home kit to use at my office, but i can't get any reception. i think sirius is making a BIG mistake by not broadcasting the show online. i believe XM offers an online subscription for its subscribers. sirius is dropping the ball on this one. they're gonna have alot of irate customers if they don't rectify the situation. (and they better not hit us up with a n additional charge for the privilege of listening online. we allready spend $13 a month to listen to RADIO..thats enuff!!!)
