Or so says conservative radio-host Michael Savage, who pointed out a few years back that Howard has a disturbing penchant for making fun of mentally handicapped people--and stroke victims, as was evidenced on Monday with Howard's perennial hazing of Dick Clark's New Year's Eve broadcast.

Am I wrong for agreeing, to some extent, with Savage? Does Howard have a "silent swastika on his soul" toward the handicapped?

Wasn't Michael Savage the guy who said that Autistic kids are faking it for attention?

What he said regarding autistic children:

"Now, the illness du jour is autism. You know what autism is? I'll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out. That's what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they're silent? They don't have a father around to tell them, "Don't act like a moron. You'll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don't sit there crying and screaming, idiot."

So yah, he is real sympathetic towards those with disorders.

Was Savage the guy that was fired from weekends on Philly's WYSP radio for doing a show too closely imitating Stern's, back in the late 80's/early 90's?

I agree. Savage is a hateful and ignorant lunatic. But so is Howard, at least when it comes to loathing the handicapped with all his soul.

I have to disagree. I don't think Howard loathes the handicapped. When he argues with an Eric The Midget, it's because of his self serving personality.. not his disability.

Granted he finds humor out of using a Crackhead Bob, Gary the Retard or Beetlejuice.. but he never does it in a way in which it comes off hateful. I'm sure they have benefited as well, financially, making various appearances else where because of being on the show.

Michael Savage on the other hand is the one with the "swastika on his soul", whatever the fuck that means, lol. He is just one angry, hateful and ignorant fucktard.

I was being hyperbolic here to get a rise out of people--I'm shallow that way. I actually love Howard, I just get confused sometimes as to why he loves messing with the handicapped so much. Maybe he identifies with what misfits and outcasts they are.

Howard is outlandish in his interactions with physically challenged, but the Dick Clark thing is about a star's legacy being so huge, no one knows whether to discourage the guy from doing his show with the hinderence of his stroke, or to let him persist despite how unnerving it is for people who compare him to how he was. It's a showbussinessteric discussion.

If Howard loathed the handicapped he wouldn't have given them 10's of 1000's of dollars over his career.

I just can't recall Hitler paying the Jews anything.

what does that even mean? that he wants to round them up and exterminate them?

Dick Clark is funny to listen to and mock because he has a speech impediment and still chooses to speak in an entertainment medium

should we not laugh at, or make fun of, John the Stutterer?

Maybe we shouldn't.

I don't know what's been wrong with me these past few months, but I have begun to feel increasingly guilty about laughing at--not with--stutterers, stroke-victims, and the mentally and physically handicapped.

Howard's style of pointing and laughing at the less fortunate has always disturbed me, but only recently has it risen to the forefront of my mind and seriously inhibited my enjoyment of the show.

Maybe I'm taking all of this too seriously.
