Zoe fixed my laptop
THIS IS A TRUE STORY
When I bought my last laptop, I handed my old one down to one of the kids. Even though it's many years old, it kicked ass when I first bought it and it's still great today. It's an HP with a 17" widescreen and Dan uses it for alot of online gaming. He always says how much he loves the big screen so if I ever had to replace it, a cheapy laptop isn't going to do. I'd have to spring for another big ass high res screen / video card. Lucky, it's really held up well .....
... until recently that is. It started overheating to the point that it shuts down and needs to cool off. Eventually it wouldn't even start back up. The battery wouldn't hold a charge, the thing wouldn't even light up. If I jiggled everything around it might come up for a moment but would wind up shitting the bed again. It didn't look good, I wasn't ready to buy him a new laptop, & I wasn't ready to hand down mine or Kimmy's. I was sorta shit outta luck but while shopping for 17" widescreen laptop, I remembered The Laptop Guy (http://www.laptopguy.com/).
You've heard the commercials on Howard for LaptopGuy.com (http://www.laptopguy.com). They were the ones where the guy said him and his dog Zoe will fix your laptop. We did a promo with him a year ago where we did a photoshop contest and gave away a Laptop Guy skinned laptop (http://www.sternfannetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=313202). I had never used them before but they were real to give us a laptop so I checked them out. Long story short, they fixed the laptop. It now holds the charge & it doesn't overheat. I couldn't be happier and the whole thing including shipping there & back cost $249. If you laptop is only worth $300 or $400 dollars maybe you couldn't justify that but I was shopping for $700 laptops so $250 was a bargain. When I emailed him to thank him for fixing it and said I was going to do a little writeup in appreciation for getting it back up & running, he was very grateful. So much so that he gave me a coupon code to use & credited my card. The coupon code he setup is "HeyNow35" which gave me $35 off. He said I can extend it to all of you in the writeup. So my repair w/ shipping was $215. Considering it was dead and wouldn't even light up, that's a good deal. NICE!
I don't have a graphic so here's the laptop guy skinned laptop we gave away to BioFusion. More info and other entries can be seen here. (http://www.sternfannetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=313202)

Let me back up. Here's how it works. I went to the website http://www.laptopguy.com and clicked on the repair garage. From there I found a "ship to garage" link. From there you fill out a form with all the details about the laptop & the problem you are having. The next day I got an email with a UPS shipping form. I printed it out and brought the laptop to Staples w/ the slip. The chick at the Staples UPS store packed it up for me and with the shipping slip from the laptop guy, I didn't have to pay anything.
A couple days later I got an email letting me know they received the laptop. Then I got a phone call telling me what they found. The tech explained to me in plain terms what they discovered. Right where the power cord plugs into the the laptop, the solder points on the board were bad. This is why it wasn't getting power and why the battery wasn't charging. he said it's a cheap repair and a very common problem. The cooling fans were shitted up with crap. They still ran so all they need is cleaning. This is what caused the initial overheating. Also, some sorta gel between the processor & the cooling fins had dried up. This would make the cooling issue even worse but they can just clean it and replace the gel. All in all, they didn't need any parts at all. It was basically just labor and he gave me an estimate to fix it. I gave him the OK, gave him my credit card info, and waited anxiously.
I received an email letting me know it was fixed, the final cost, and a tracking number. It shipped right back to my door and is running 100%. Dan says it seems to be running faster / smoother now. He doesn't know if that's because it's not over heating or if they did something to optimize it but he's very happy & so am I. they saved the day.
So that's my review. They fixed it, it wasn't too much money, & it didn't take too long. I was a little nervous about sending the laptop out to someone else but it was fine. I'm 100% happy and would use them again. If I had it to do over again, I should have had them skin the laptop while they had it. Would have been cool to have it come back with a call of duty graphic across it.
I know your laptop isn't broke today but I recommend that you fine away this site & coupon code for a rainy day. If you ever do need him, you'll be happy you did. If any of you have used them before, please share your experience.
