How to Install a Satellite Radio Antenna Video

Maybe a few people would want to see this.. to help them decide if they would want the Car kit or home portable and what it would cost them to have it done professionally, or if they would be able to do it themselves..

another tip:

you can paint the antenna to match your car. JUST DONT USE PAINT WITH METALLIC FLAKES IN THEM...

You gotta be frickin' kidding me.

I put the car antenna on top of the dashboard and turned the damn thing on and it works fine, perfect connection.

Now, I can hide the antenna when I'm not in the car. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I don't want someone breaking into the car, looking for my satellite radio.

Same thing inside the house, I thought I'd have to install the antenna near a window or worse, outside. I plugged the radio into the docking station and hid the antenna behind the center channel speaker and again, perfect connection and no wires all thru the condo.

Maybe that doesn't work for everyone, but don't outsmart yourself and go thru a whole lot of installation before you test your signal, over a few days to check for consistency.

you must live near a repeater...

remember, no LINE OF SIGHT... no sat signal...

with a repeater, you are using TERRESTRIAL signals...

what city you in?

your sirius unit should have a SIGNAL STRENGHT meter buried in the MENUs...

I live in Long Beach, CA and every where I drive, either LA or Orange Country, I have had a signal.

Also, as I said, I live in a condo, but it's on the 1st floor of an 8 story building and I have southern exposure in "Area 6", where you're supposed to point north or east. The antenna sits in the middle of the living room, on top of the big screen.

Either way, perfect signal. Go figure.
(not braggin)

If it's a repeater, then I'm damn lucky.

Just got my package - sounds great - 2 dumb antenna issues so posted it here

1. my boombox antenna does not work unless it is outside on my deck (bummer - anyway to fix that) - I assume that it is waterproof and is ok out there in the rain?

I am using the boombox in my office and basement so was thinking of just buying another antenna and threading another line to my basement. I haven't nailed the antenna down or anything will it blow away? Just resting on my deck with a cord to the window.

2. car antenna - it does work on my dash so may not need to go through all the trouble of threading it through the car but...

a. it slides everywhere - any recs on how to stop the sliding without officially mounting?

b. what do you guys do with the huge coil of wire - messy

So far I can tell it will be great once I work the kinks out - btw - the audiovox runs very hot after only a few hrs.

1. satellite = line of sight... try hot glueing the base of antenna...

2. fine... you can either use double sided tape to mount it up there...

as for the coil, hide it by tucking it under the carpet or behind a panel or something...

Great video - it looks like something I can do.

I will probably end up with the sportster model - I drive a full size pick-up and have plenty of space. The video shows you taking off a lot of the interior panels - so I got an idea. I might as well as put some decent speakers in there if I already am going to have the panels off and am buying the quality radio... Does anyone know a decent pair of speakers that I can swap out for my stock speakers???
