Local promotions director vents on Howard Stern news show

A local blogger made the Howard Stern Show's news program today for calling the bluff on a possible promotions scam.

Mike Van Jura, a talent booker for Appalachian Brewing Co. in Harrisburg who blogs at jerseymike.org, was interviewed for a news segment that aired on the Howard 100 News Show, part of Howard Stern's Sirius Satellite Radio program.

The subject? Captain Janks, a well-known member of shock-jock Stern's "Whack Pack."

Janks has allegedly been calling bars and clubs on the East Coast booking appearances, asking for payment up front and then not showing. After a confrontation with Janks over a possible booking at the brew pub for January, Van Jura blogged about the experience.

"My goal was to kind of look out for fellow promoters. I don't want to see anyone get ripped off," Van Jura said.

What followed was an overwhelming response from promoters complaining about Janks' alleged scam, which caught the attention of Stern's news program.
