the old SFN held your place in a thread perfectly
when I refresh the page now, it no longer goes to the right place
please fix this Mutt, it is VERY annoying

Sorry to hijack your thread Rogergrape, but I need to find out why I can't start new threads anymore since the new SFN started.
I can post with no problem, obviously, but when I try to start a new thread, I just get a blank white page.
stop refreshing the page. problem solved. if you really want it, click the number to the top right of your post. that is a direct link to your post & when you refresh, it'll go right to your spot.
or stop using the quick reply form. if you always us the full reply editor, it will be like it used to. the issue you are having is caused by the quick reply form using ajax. the purpose of it is to limit the page refreshes because they are hard on the server.
jigzaw, there's a thread about the new thread issue in this forum

Mutt,
if I click the number on the top right of a post, it goes to "view single post", not that spot in the thread
I rarely use the quick reply but I'm not sure what that has to do with this problem. What I am talking about is when I am reading something like the listening thread and I want to go to the first unread post. The old system took me there after hitting refresh, but now if I hit refresh it usually takes me somewhere earlier
I did not know that. hate it. i'm changing the template now so that number brings you tot he thread instead of the single post.
as for the page jump, it's side effect of the ajax, your browsers cache, and some other bullshit. there is no fix for it.
but I have something that will elevate the need to refresh. you just need to be a little patient. I was waiting till the site was running smooth before I tired it out. maybe I'll try it later today.
ok I changed the link # link. clicking that will take you to the same page at the same spot and the page will be updated. this is also better than hitting refresh because all the button images will still be cached. this means the page will load faster for you than it would when you hit refresh.
additionally, refresh won't work the way you want it to anyway because of how ajax handles the quick reply & edits.
I know this is different than what you were doing before but this really should fix your issue & it won't be long before you see that it works better than refreshing. better on your end & better for the server.
plus i've got that new thing coming up
