View Full Version : WTF - house blocking reception!

Just got my audivox receiver and boombox - love the stations but a big problem for me is that the two rooms I was going to use the box in is at the side of my house that does not face the satellite I guess! I ran the antenna all the way into my yard but it still picked up minimal to no reception - when I bring it to the other areas of the house on the other side it works well but not the areas I was going to use it indoors. Never thought this would be a problem.

Anyone run into this? Is there another antenna solution that maybe I can stretch like Direct TV - even if there is it is a hassle and do not feel like doing all the legwork. Any suggestions out there?

What is the return policy if it does not work out? No point in paying for the plug and play if I will only use it for my car - might as well install a face radio unit.

Any help would be appreciated - and I know whaaa whaaaa!

audiovox PnP units have a strength meter buried in the MENU selections.

i was setting up the home dock kit in my bedroom. i threw the antenna about a foot from the window.

i checked the meter. no bars. so i moved it an extra 6" and i got 3 bars on the satellite and 3 bars on the terrestrial...

so i was good to go...

Thanks for responding!

I used the meter and in the backyard it is solid for a while and then fades out to a zero. The front yard is the same - never stays solid no matter where I put it on the ground. Moved it all around and nothing that stays positive so far. Maybe I'm just in a screwed location!

When I called they told me since it is an antenna issue they would not accept a return on it and I would have to buy a roof antenna and cord extender...for another $100 without installation! What a crock! Also there would be no mobility as I would have to thread the antenna through the house to only once location!

Gotta say it hasn't worked well for me so far!

another tip...

try a diff antenna...

i had one die on me slowly. it was loosing contact when i knew it was fine previously...

so i took the antenna from the home to the car and sure enough, it was the antenna...

Thanks for the tip - I'll try it! I also ordered the 30' extension to put the darn thing on my roof. Also noticed you answer a ton of posts here - I for one appreciate it!

lol... that is the last resort.

since you dont list where you live, sometimes the satellites inclination might be the thing that is ruining your reception.

for example, i drive in the freeway. big view of the sky, but sometimes, the freeway dips way down and the side walls are tall enough and i'm just in the certain spot that the angle is too shallow and i loose momentary contact.

you know the sirius birds are in constantly moving:

and that is the reason you might be loosing contact. but this is a very small chance...
