yep, you can now recover the old lost attachments. I wrote a couple custom scripts which gives us access to them 1 thread at a time. Now alot of them are crap but there are many threads I'd like to rebuild like all the photo album threads.

if you have permissions to upload attachments, you have permissions to recover lost attachments.

on the forum display page where all the threads are listed, look for the thread with the missing attachments that you'd like to recover. See the little paperclip to the right? (red arrow is point to it in this pic)

2146

click on that paperclip and a little window will open like this

2147

The window is broken into Attachments (stuff that's already in the new system) and Old Attachments. (the crap that's missing) Only users with upload permissions will see the Old Attachments. Clicking on those links will open up the lost attachment allowing you to save it locally. once you save them, please attach them to the thread using the new system.

Please don't try to post these old images with the IMG tag, the ATTACH tag or any tag. The permissions on them are very limited and most people will just get dead image links. You need to save them, then re-upload them. you can upload them to the posts they came from or you could just reply to the thread and upload them all in 1 post. if you are the thread owners, you could edit your first post and upload them there.

I'd like to come up with a more automated process but this is as far as I've gotten and there are more important things for me to be working on right now.

[hr]

also, you can now embed attached images in your post FULL SIZE. the 2 above images are actually attachments to this post. I'm using the tag. To use it you need to grab the images attachmentid. there's alot of numbers int eh URL so make sure you get the right one. Wrap the attachmentid with the [ATTACH] tags like this [ATTACH]2146 and your done.

it only works in the post that the images are attached to. all it does is change the existing thumbnail a the bottom of the post to an inline image.

Outside of that post, you could always use the [IMG] tag.

Hey Mutt, I've encountered a problem. When I save the old attachments they are php files. Those file types cannot be posted as attachments on SFN.

Hey Mutt is there any chance that Posting Frequency can come back?

I tried posting the old attachments using the [ATTACH] tags and that didn't work either.

are you retarded. thanks for trying to fix the thread but come on.

first, like I said, the attach tag only works for attachments in that post. not old lost attachments. the attachments that you can see the thumbnail for.

second, like I said don't, try to post the post attachments in a post. you can only download from the old system them and then upload them into the new system. you can post them using the oldattach.php script due to the permissions issues. no only won't people be able to see them, you'll fuck up the thread making it take longer to load.

use this tool to save the photos locally. then using the make a post & upload the images to that post. now they'll be in the new system.

I'm curious about re posting some attachments in Adult Talk that were lost during the upgrade. I know the ladies would love have the pics in Guys Of SFN back. I'll re-read your instructions and figure it out. Thank you for all your hard work.

maybe. I have something like it that we were using on the test board call experience. it did the same thing plus a little more. I held off installing it cause I didn't know if we really needed it. we already have the reputation thing.

if you guys like it, I can reinstall it. same w/ the casino & bookie. I just dont' want to junk the place up with too much crap.
