I beleive they are disabled along w/ bbcodes. not sure why.

gotit, yet they are disabled. if you click reply, you'll see that there aren't any smilies in the form.

the problem is that i added the smilie to the quick reply form without any check to see if smilies are on.

Looks like Mutt may have BBCode disabled in Social Groups. BBCode is what translates smilies from plaintext to image.

i've looked and there's no good way to enable it. I don't like the social group discussions.

there is a way to convert them to social forums. as a social forum, the messaging is just like this. I think I might go that route.
