The NBA will announce LeBron James as its MVP on Monday, The Plain Dealer of Cleveland and Associated Press have reported, citing unnamed sources.

A day before the Cleveland Cavaliers begin their second-round series against the Atlanta Hawks, the league will anoint James, 24.

The announcement will be made at James' alma mater, St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, the reports said. The Cavaliers called a news conference for 4 p.m. ET but didn't specify the nature of the event.

His Cavaliers teammates were expected to attend.

James, whose Cavaliers swept the Detroit Pistons in the first round of the playoffs, averaged 28.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists during the regular season, his sixth in the NBA, in which Cleveland won a team-record 66 games and earned the top overall seed in the playoffs.

The Cavs host Atlanta on Tuesday after the Hawks finished off the Miami Heat in Game 7 of their first-round series Sunday.

Well deserved, he's a hard worker and a great leader. What he's done for sports in the city of Cleveland is amazing.

I admit I teared up when I read that this morning and saw he's doing it at his old high school. :db:

I can't imagine what you're going to do IF he leaves after next season.

He's not leaving. :)

Nice of LeBron to call all of his teammates up on stage. Also had gifts for all of them. Classy kid.

His loyalty to Akron and Cleveland is astounding. IF he leaves I will be a fan of his no matter where he is.

I like LeBron a lot and hope he stays in Cleveland. But I don't think him staying or leaving is a guarantee either way.

If he leaves after being offered more money to stay (which will be the case by the CBA rules), then he has no loyalty.

His loyalty is why I doubt he would leave. He has all the money he'll ever need right at this minute, he has endorsements, he has it all.

Accepting that MVP award in his high school gym obviously meant the world to him, I just can't see him leaving his home. He is worshipped there.

I'm not arguing that. I just find your statement, "His loyalty to Akron and Cleveland is astounding. IF he leaves I will be a fan of his no matter where he is." to be curious. You can be a fan if he leaves, but you'll have to admit that he really had no loyalty after all.

This is true. Who knows what he will do when and if the offer comes? He's also a business man.

I guess my point was hopfully his loyalty to his home and the fans will keep him there. Though I left there so who am I to talk? :jj:

There is no loyalty in sports in either direction, nor should there be. If Lebron was averaging 10 pts a game the fans wouldn't want him to stay just because he is from Akron. The Cavs owes Lebron more than Lebron owes the Cavs. I don't understand why loyalty is even brought up.
