This should be interesting, but kind of late in life to be doing this.

"Iommi--without Osbourne--performed under the Black Sabbath moniker until the late 1990s and, according to Ozzy, destroyed the value of the band's name. "After constant and numerous changes in band members, the brand of 'Black Sabbath' was literally in the toilet," Osbourne said in a statement.

"Since 1997 when Geezer, Bill and myself rejoined the band, Black Sabbath has returned to its former glory as we headlined sold-out arenas and amphitheatres playing to upwards of 50,000 people at each show around the world," Osbourne said. "We worked collectively to restore credibility and bring dignity back to the name 'Black Sabbath' which lead to the band being inducted into the UK and US Rock & Roll Hall of Fames in 2005 and 2006, respectively. ... The name 'Black Sabbath' now has a worldwide prestige and merchandising value that it would not have had by continuing on the road it was on prior to the 1997 reunion tour."

Osbourne said the quality of the Black Sabbath brand has increased significantly with the help of his management representatives (comprised primarily of his wife, Sharon Osbourne) who oversaw the marketing and quality control of the brand through Ozzfest, touring, merchandising and album reissues.

"It is with great regret that I had to resort to legal action against my long term partner ... but after three years of trying to resolve this issue amicably, I feel I have no other recourse," Osbourne said. "I don't have the right to speak for Geezer and Bill, but I feel that morally and ethically the trademark should be owned by the four of us equally. ... We've all worked too hard and long in our careers to allow you to sell merchandise that features all of our faces, old Black Sabbath album covers and band logos, and then you tell us that you own the copyright."

Iommi reportedly registered the "Black Sabbath" trademark in the US in 2000 and has been the only Sabbath member to stay with the band throughout its 41 year history. The guitarist and founding member--who now tours under the "Heaven and Hell [ tickets ]" moniker with original Ozzy replacement vocalist Dio--reportedly has filed his own suit against Signatures Network for selling merchandise with the band's likeness, name and logo."

Sounds reasonable to me. He spent a large portion of his life helping to build Black Sabbath into a legacy. He clearly feels Iommi is mismanaging the franchise & destroying the legacy for personal gain.

Ozzy said in his statement, "We’re all in our 60’s now. The Black Sabbath legacy should live on long after we have all gone. Please do the right thing.”.

Everyone wants their legacy to remain one they find pleasing.

He feels that the Black Sabbath trademark/name should be owned equally by the 4 original members, but is suing Iommi for 50% stake. Nice.

it must be easier to just agree with Sharon, that UK twat, than actually argue with her about how ludicrous it is to sue Tony Iommi... What they thought was embarrassing to the Sabbath name is now surpassed by this act of selfishness and greed. C yoU Next Tuesday.....

I think they had all royalties split, but part of the complaint Sharon and Ozzy have is over 25 years old Iommi stopped using the Black Sabbath name in the early 90s. Iommi said he didn't want problems with Sharon and Ozzy. Also, Bill Ward will only work with Black Sabbath if Ozzy, Geezer and Tony are the band because he has health issues, he's been the one out of the band that has been in and out of the band the most. He worked with the Dio lineup for a month years ago and quit. I think if it's about divvying up the name for the t-shirts, they do have a good argument. I also think Sharon held off going after Iommi in the 80s because of her situation with her dad, that's a hell of a story in itself. If it wasn't for her dad threatening to break Jimmy Page's fingers, Steve Marriott might have been the lead singer of Led Zeppelin.

Either way, I don't think people care if Black Sabbath do another show, they were supposed to have retired anyway. I think Ozzy's touring days are behind him except for the one Ozzfest a year, and I can see him getting to the point of showing up and just singing a couple of songs with the headliner. Even if he's a parody of himself, the Black Sabbath catalog is still great music and the myths will continue to circulate, and there will be asshole kids trying to snort ants (2 kids died trying to snort fire ants years ago). Most of the unreleased stuff's released, maybe some live recordings and videos... The only thing left is a movie on his life.

Sounds reasonable to me. He spent a large portion of his life helping to build Black Sabbath into a legacy. He clearly feels Iommi is mismanaging the franchise & destroying the legacy for personal gain.

The reality shows really killed his career...and made him look stupid. Ozzy should stay in music and stay off television.
