The Bowls start tonight with Southern Miss giving 5 to North Texas. I say lay the 5.

1-0

Tonight the games really begin. I think there is a football (college or pro) on every day until January 4.

Tonigh features Georgia Tech giving 4 1/2 to Syracuse. I say lay the points again tonight with some confidence.

I go out on a limb and say Pitt wins their bowl game. I just got that good feeling and think people will under estimate Pitt.

2-0. Sorry I did not get on to post yesterday. It doesn't help anyone but I would have said take Bowling Green laying three. My play of the day though would have been the over 70. Could have been 4-0.

Anyway, today I like Marshall getting 1 1/2 from Cincinnatti and Wyoming getting 12 1/2 from UCLA. I am not thrilled about either. Hopefully it will be a 2 dog night.

5-1!

I took my first loss of the season with that pathetic showing by Marshall. You can't win them all and I wouldn't have gone too hard at either of those games anyway.

Today you have Hawaii giving 3 1/2 to UAB in Honolulu. The Rainbow Warriors beat Northwestern and Michigan State at the end of the year when those teams visited the islands. Don't expect UAB to fare any better.

I put a lot of confidence in saying take Hawaii and lay the points.

I must mention anything I say here is for entertainment puroposes only. It should not be construed as an admission that I gamble nor a consent for others. On the other hand, if you have been with me so far its been a Merry Christmas.

I dont think its fair that Hawaii who gets to play in a bowl game all year being in Hawaii gets to play another one there in Hawaii. I think they should have been sent to like the Motor City bowl so they can have a true bowl experience, something different.

I only deal in what is and I say lay the 3 1/2. As a little stocking stuffer I might even say take the ungodly high over of 76. When Vegas puts an over/under like that they are just begging you to take the under so...

I can't believe Chang has the NCAA record for passing TD's... and he hasn't really won shit. What a crock.

He's definitely a first rounder in the next draft, but as soon as he sees a serious defense he's going to launch more picks than Scarface's nose.

With Hawaii and the over on Christmas Eve that's 7-1. This is a nice run.

Today we have Virginia giving 5 to Fresno State. While I like Fresno's program, I think they are a fraud this year as an 8-3 team. Virginia will shut down their running game while the Cavaliers will run the ball nicely against FSU's defense. Virginia is an underrated team this year, because they sucked a fat one against the big teams this year. Take Virginia and lay the 5 with confidence.

We also have Toledo laying 3 1/2 to UConn. I like Toledo a little bit. UT's QB's broken hand scares me a little and I would not go heavy on this one. The real play on this one is the over at 66.

Have fun!

I'm thinking of putting some money on Cal -11.5 against Texas Tech in the Holiday Bowl. What do you guys think?

jokeland
12-28-2004, 03:07 AM
OUCH! Tough day going 0-3 and taking the record to 7-4. The luck leaves you as quickly as it comes.

What day is that Cal game? I usually don't look at games too far in advance. It makes me like a particular team and clouds my analysis before doing some research. Off the top of my head I would say I like Texas Tech but the over would probably be the best bet in that game.

Today is Miami of Ohio giving 2 to Iowa State and Oregon State gving 3 1/2 to Notre Dame. I do not feel strongly about either of these games.

I would take the 2 points with Iowa State.

That Notre Dame game is particularly difficult. They should probably get smoked by OSU yet OSU is only giving 3 1/2. That makes you wonder what is going on. I say take ND and the points. Take it easy on both of these as you don't want to blow your load before Saturday.

I go with Iowa State. OSU should handle Notre Dame fairly easy.

Good job thomas. As for me, it was a 1-1 day which takes me to 8-5. That's good for a 62% rate which is great, however far off the 100% rate of last week.

Two more games today. Colorado giving 3 to UTEP and Oklahoma State giving 3 1/2 to Ohio State. I will have to take a longer look at the CU/UTEP game. However, I feel very strongly about taking Oklahoma State and laying the points. Ohio State was only really dangerous when Smith was the QB. With him out, I think Ohio State will have trouble scoring 14 points.

jokeland

As an update, take UTEP and the 3 points against Colorado. I don't love the game but I think UTEP will get the straight out win.

thanks...lucky picks so far. I think i would stick with Colorado. I think they have a better running game. I

the OSU vs OSU...I pick OSU (LOL)...

seriously...this will be a tough one, because Ohio State doesn't always show up, but when they do, they are pretty good..

since I am a Big 12 man, I am going to stick with Oklahoma State.

You and me both brotha. 0-2 and I was positive Oklahoma State would roll. I'm down to 8-7 now. It's not whether you fall down it's whether you get back up so...

North Carolina givng to to Boston College. I love BC in this game. They were 1 bad loss from playing on New Year's Day and UNC was 1 good win from being home.

New Mexico giving 2 1/2 to Navy. I know Navy's quality of competition was low, but that running game really rolls. I like Navy.

Cal giving 11 1/2 to Texas Tech. As I said earlier I like Texas Tech to be able to keep pace with Cal. The play on this game is the over 66.

Finally its Troy giving 2 to Northern Illinois. NIU offense was great when tailback Wolfe was playing. They still almost beat a good Toledo team with him out of the lineup. Troy has been good this year but I like NIU.

That's 4 dogs today. We'll see what happens but the luck seems to have left me. I wish some of you other pricks would give some predictions. I know there are people looking with over 125 views. Give up the goods boys.

Today Alabama and Minnesota are a pick em. It looks like Alabama is going to start a 3rd string QB and RB. The defense is good but the Minnesota running game is great. Take the Gophers.

Purdue is giving 7 to Arizona State. ASU is without its star QB. When I have watched them he made a big difference in how they played. Also Kyle Orton is back. Purdue slid when he was hurt. With him both the offense and defense were at a top 10 level. I really like Purdue.

Louisville is giving 11 1/2 to Boise State. I don't know how you can lay off the over 79 1/2 on this one. You comfortably know that both of these teams will score 30. I think Louisville scores no less than 45 in this game. That gets you pretty close to the number. The number is as big as any I have seen. However we saw Hawaii with a 70 last week and that one was covered easily. If I had to choose a team I would say take Boise State. You choose a team because I'm rooting for both of them on this one.

Finally Miami laying 3 1/2 to Florida. There is way to much Florida love going around these days. Remember this is a team that lost its coach and a lot of football games as well. I'm hoping the number drops but take the Canes.

As for tommorrow:

Georgia is giving 7 1/2 to Wisconsin. Look for Georgia to have a big game against the overrated Badgers. Lay the points and take Georgia.

Texas A M is giving 3 1/2 to Tennessee. I love Texas A M in this game. I would probably rate this as my highest confidence pick of the day.

Florida State is giving 9 to West Virginia. I don't know how a Chris Rix led team can be laying 9 to anyone. I like WVU with a good degree of confidence on this one.

LSU giving 6 1/2 to Iowa. I really like the Iowa program but this is a highly overachieving team. They have no ground game and I think LSU will have schemed to shut down the pass in the month of off time that they have had. 6 1/2 sounds light to me and I think they will win by double digits.

Texas is giving 7 to Michigan. This is a horrible game to predict. Michigan has had a rough time on D lately. On the other hand Texas, Mack Brown and Cedric Benson have all pissed their pants in big games. I think I would take Michigan but not with much confidence.

Finally Utah is giving 16 to Pitt. Utah is one of those teams the media has fallen in love with and this line seems incredibly excessive. Still if it seems this glaringly wrong the book is begging you to take Pitt. Another tough game that I would lay low on but I would take Pitt lightly.

Talk about going from the penthouse to the outhouse. 4-1 on New Year's Eve to take me to 17-8. I'm drinking heavily and cannot wait for the early games on New Year's Day....and I wish I had been too hung over to wake up.

1-5 OOFAH! Painfull, very painfull. Of course I had my FU games like Georgia taking a knee at the 5 in the final minute and West Virginia being unable to get it in from the 2 with 2 minutes to go, but this was just a flat out bad day. I'm glad I had some coverage because that took me to 18-13. That's just a c-hair above (58%) the 55% they say it takes to be profitable. Of course that is with all things being equal.

So we have two more games left. Tonight is Auburn giving 5 1/2 to Virginia Tech. VT came on strong at the end but I think these games have proven what a piss poor conference the Big East is. Do you believe those f'rs had two teams on New Year's Day and a third on today? Take the Tigers with confidence.

chrisnorton

Texas A M is giving 3 1/2 to Tennessee. I love Texas A M in this game. I would probably rate this as my highest confidence pick of the day.

can I ask why you thought this in the first place? besides ut being higher ranked, with more wins and playing a tougher conference....

Good to see you come in with a comment as everything has ended.

Why? Well, while the Big XII was not quite as strong as the SEC, TAM division of the BXII was great. TAM seemed to show up well for all of their big games. They had bowl tested leadership at the QB position and a coach who does well in big games.

Alternatively, Tennessee has had an inconsistent season, especially at the QB position. It was my thinking that a New Year's Day bowl game was not going to be the time for a QB to suddenly get good. Munoz was out, which should have hurt the running game. Also, IIRC, Fullmer has not fared well in bowl games. Finally, anyone who loses to ND at home this year is not a great team (as I say this Tenn dominated and Mich should have beaten Texas)

I was wrong and took my lumps. Obviously you knew better, but chose not to grace us with this wisdom. In that vein, I took USC yesterday but was unable to get to the computer to post. 19-14 still should have won money for anyone who went with me. If you highlighted the games I placed high confidence in, you did well.

Norton I look forward to hearing from you in a Playoffs Predictions thread. I would like to hear your take on St. Louis-Seattle.

i didn't post before because i honestly didn't look here, i don't venture into the sports forum very often

munoz is not very good, they actually ran better/protected the qb better without him, don't look for him to go very high at all in the draft

and clausen was the 3rd string qb, but look at every game he started, i think 33 points was their lowest total in his starts, one of which was against auburn, scoring points and throwing the ball around was clearly not a weakness with him

don't take this so seriously, it wasn't an insult, just wondering why you were so confident when the chips were stacked against a&m, that's all

edit: just saw this, but...bowl tested leadership at qb? considering how he hasn't played in a bowl before because that program has sucked so much ass lately...

and franchione could be a good coach, he didn't do all that well at bama though, at least not against the biggest opponents, especially UT
