I wonder what this idiot is gonna do now that the Expos / Nationals deal is on the verge of falling through? I hope they wind up in Vegas.

Bud isn't the buffoon for once. The real buffoon is DC Mayor Anthony Williams who thought he had enough votes from the City Council when he really didn't.

But Vegas has no stadium ready to go right now. Cashman field can't handle the size crowd that will be there the first few years. And by the time the stadium is built, the team will suck and only enough people to fill Cashman will be showing up.

Plus no matter how much Mayor Oscar Goodman wants to run around trying to get a team, neither the city council nor the state legislature has yet to vote to fund the building of a stadium. As much as Vegas - and especially Goodman - may want a pro sports team, they're not ready yet.

you can bet on Nevada sports, legaly.

unless you are referring to a franchise fee, I think the owners could get a lot, Vegas has been desperate for a pro team for 20 years.

You can not bet on UNLV games in Las Vegas.

What about a team in Mexico or in the Carribean? Keep the Expos as an international team.

are you fucking kidding?? bring baseball back to where it all started...

i never sympathize with people that get paid gobs and gobs of money because they can always find a way out of their various problems with the almighty dollar, but they are still human beings. no one likes to travel as far as PR or the carribean and be as active as athletes. so keep the sport in the country. let the other countries have their own sports franchises. we don't need to keep exporting our culture to the world and im very ok with keeping it here. i hated baseball in canada. i REALLY hate it in PR or mexico or the carribean.

bud selig is a dink.

Does this mean that Portland will start spreading, again, to try and get the team here? I'll have to read up on this. :type:

If DC doesn't get it, Northern VA will. No Portlan,d, Vegas, or Hartford. They don't have the demographics needed for a professional sport. (I know you have the Blazers SternGirl)

MLB wants funding totally from tax payers because if the would-be owners need to fork over 200 mill for the stadium, that's less MLB would get to pocket.

Funny thing is, if the team contracts, which MLB can do as they have the option to eliminate 2 teams after the 2006 season, they'd make more $$$ by getting rid of the franchise.

There is no easy answer to solve this...I totally agree with DC not wanting to fork over the entire costs. It's bullshit. They could easily attract a HUGE naming rights thing and put that to it? I dunno...they'll play at RFK for the next year or so then possibly move somewhere or dissolve if this isn't fixed soon.

No way they move to VEGAS .... not after Pete Rose and that whole gambling fiasco...

Just having a team in, or close to, vegas is asking for trouble.

Even though they inexplicably have no fan base, the marlins have won 2 world series titles. I think the rule should be if your franchise has won a world series title, it shouldnt be contracted. how about the marlins and the d-rays? hell, nobody remembers that the d-rays are even a mlb franchise.

As a DC resident and one that is involved in Sports, I can tell you that you can't heap this on Mayor Williams. Sure, he is guilty of making some bad moves here, but the real person at fault is Linda Cropp, head of the DC City Council. She sat there and knew the whole time what the deal was and didn't say SHIT until she had the spotlight, then she decided to torpedo this deal. It's gonna get done.

I think that the D.C. City Council folded, and the Expos are moving to D.C. after all.

Makes me mad, tho'. Why pay for Stadiums with public funds in a district/city that has failing public schools and a high murder rate?

Vegas would be cool. Imagine travelling to sin city to watch your favorite team and party at night. Kick Ass!

It was made official last week that the team is moving to DC. And the taxes are not going to be paid by every citizen in DC, instead the taxes that will pay for the stadium will be placed on tickets, food, and merchandise.

Let them move to DC. The only ones who will buy tickets are suits that are too lazy to drive to Baltimore.

Now that the Sox have won, what is the #1 reason to watch? To see if Steroid Man beats out Hank Aaron?
