and you know this how, swami? you do realize how much they're paying this kid, right? way too much money to be sitting the bench. also, they're the ones in camp with the two QB's everyday, so I'm sure they know a little more than Syxxpac78 from SFN. plus, Culpepper is hurt, and wouldn't be able to start Sunday anyway.

I bet Culpepper will have a stick in his ass about this. Not being racist, but the blaek qb's seem to be more sensitive to this type of stuff.

Well, when Stafford becomes the next Andre Ware/Joey Harrington you can look back at this decision as to one of the reasons why......I realize they are paying him a ton of cash, but there is a proven track record of success with young 1st round QB's who do not start in their first seasons (Palmer, Bledsoe, A.Rodgers, etc) than QB's who start right out of the gate although there are exceptions. My point is wouldn't you rather this kid get a ear of seasoning under his belt than put him out on the field, have him suffer loss after loss and screw his head up like Alex Smith or David Carr. Maybe I'm wrong, but I have about 5 friends that are Detroit fans and they all agree with me.

GOod decision. First year he plays he is going to have to take his lumps anyway. Might as well get it over with. Your paying all this $$, might as well see what ya have

lol, I'm sure he will. he's probably not too fond of playing second fiddle to a little white boy with a smile.

I think Bledsoe did start his first year. I might be wrong though.

I understand what you're saying...but that really only applies to QB's with not much confidence. according to the local press here the last 2 months, is other than the arm strength, the one thing that everyone is most impressed with is his confidence. they say the kid is unflappable. after an interception, he's laughing, and wanting back on the field asap to rewrite the wrongs. the fact that when he knows a huge blitz is coming, he welcomes it with a smile before the snap...not fear.

Stafford isn't a soft QB. he's not afraid to fuck up, he knows he's gonna fuck up. he's a gunslinger, and will throw his share of picks...but it won't rattle him.

I tell you what...now that the kid is starting...anyone that hasn't drafted their fantasy team yet, should think about snagging Calvin Johnson as soon as possible. probably a 1st rounder if not early 2nd. these two have extreme chemistry together, and with Johnson's speed and Stafford's arm...there will be some home runs.

I would let Culpepper start the first 5-6 weeks then let Stafford start. Lions o-line better be good because you don't want him getting hit a ton like Carr and end his career.

the o-line has played extremely well this preseason. yes, I know...it's preseason, but they played like shit last preseason, and they went 4-0. the difference from this preseason to last, is the Lions' first team offense and defense were leading before the secondary players came in. last year, the secondary players were winning the games in the 4th quarter.

the o-line is protecting the pass better, and opening running lanes. you have Stafford, Kevin Smith, Calvin Johnson, and Brandon Pettigrew that are all offensive playmakers. on defense, the linebackers are set...Julian Peterson, Ernie Simms, and Larry Foote. Louis Delmas is a very good rookie safety, and the corners are that much better. Gunther Cunningham running the D, and Scott Linehan running the O. they should win at least 6 games this year on their way to rebuilding a bad franchise.

I really mean it. I whine about not winning shit since the 90's, but then I see a TRUE fan like you and I think, Goddamn, I have had the joy of watching my team succeed. You have stuck with the Lions and I tip my hat to you.

hell yeah, man...I appreciate that shit. it hasn't been easy, it's been down right frustrating being the laughing stock of the NFL, listening to everyone say that our only national game every year should be taken away from us. but I truly feel that the Lions will be better sooner than later.

just to let you know, when the Lions are out of playoff contention, I hope the Cowboys win it. I'm not ashamed to admit I hold a spot for the Cowboys. I think it started when the Lions had Barry, and you guys had Emmit...we had the baddest RB's on the planet.

I like what the Lions are putting together. If they do see that Stafford is just getting hit a ton every game and not playing well they should put in Culpepper sooner rather than later. Nothing wrong with just getting a taste your rookie season.

Our respective franchises are similar in many ways.
