Speaking purely philosophically here, I'd say that at this point, it is a construct; a convention, if you will that people with faces that are particularly elongated as opposed to the more normal ovaline shape are said to be "horse-faced" and is merely descriptive. It isn't any more pejorative a term than saying someone with very round features to be "moon-faced." Certainly the person having these doesn't like to hear it and will infer such a comment as an insult whether it is intended as such or not.

I will say that I think the reason this will not go away is that so much is made of Beth in this regard. It is like kryptonite. It is the one thing that seems to strike a nerve and that is why it is singled out and therefore the exact same reason many people will continue to skirt around the playful edge of this.... to see just where the edge is.
