View Full Version : Music Thread – Talk about Bands and Songs You Love
Miller 10-16-2009, 09:47 PM I’m a huge Iron Maiden Fan and it appears a few others on this site are also. Rock in Rio is one of the best DVD’s produced with great camera work, sound and energy with the band and fans. Might as well start strong with a classic.

YellowNo5 10-16-2009, 09:49 PM Gotta be Faith No More for me. Actually, it is more Mike Patton than FNM itself. Anything he does is golden!!

Do you have a fav song of theirs?
Miller 10-16-2009, 10:06 PM An old friend of mine who likes similar music as I recently turned me onto Gov’t Mule. I don’t know a lot of their music yet but Banks of the Deep End is quickly becoming one of my favorite all time songs. This shit just talks to me.

RodStroker 10-16-2009, 10:45 PM Mike Borden of FNM lived up the street from me. did you know his mother hung herself with a coat hanger in a closet?
Miller 10-16-2009, 11:24 PM FNM was pretty cool. They sort of tried the rap/rock thing for a bit. I did like them though and would love to hear more about the mother coat hanger story.
Anthrax played with the rap stuff a little which was funny. Anyone remember this?

Sala I need to check out your band in a few.
Hey anyone remember this? I almost forgot Antrhax and Public Enemy did something together. This has a little Flava. LOL

DAMONKEYS 10-16-2009, 11:33 PM I am a big fan of 311. Used to be able to post youtube vids on here, but can't make it happen for whatever reason. Anywho, my 311 favs are "Come Original", "Don't Stay Home", "Beautiful Disaster".
Might not fit into the theme of the thread here, but fuck it.
FUNNYFARM 10-16-2009, 11:33 PM I used to go see Anthrax back in the day when I was in Dallas. I never saw them with the singer from Armored Saint. It was always with Belladonna ( I think that was his name)...good stuff.
I also just watched the Megadeth DVD That One Night in Buenos Aires the other day and it was awsome. Guitar wizardry at it's finest. Nevermore is also one of my favorite bands. I'd post some youtube vids if I knew how.
My buddies and I always used to joke that the bass player for Iron Maiden was the one really singing on a hidden mic and Bruce Dickenson was just running around lip syncing. Those guys always look like they are have a rocker pose off in concert LOL....love their music though.
Sala that dude from Fugazi that was just singing had some moves huh? LOL

find the song on youtube then copy the url and past it, it's as simple as that.
Steve Harris, maiden bass player, is the heart and soul of maiden period. Everything feeds off him and he writes most of the songs, that is why he sings so much. maiden tried to replace bruce but there just is no replacement for that though blaze tried.
as for anthrax, i love this song.

Miller 10-17-2009, 12:21 AM Hey fuckers I can't keep up here. I still haven't listened to Sala's stuff now you are bringing outnevermore, MF and Megadeath.
BTW Dave and Megadeath kick ass but as much as I hate to say this, Dave's vocals limit the band.
FUNNYFARM 10-17-2009, 12:28 AM Miller I concur with that statement. Some bands I listen to for vocals and some I listen for the music like Lamb of God and Devil Driver. Nevermore gives me the best of both worlds...some decent vocals with primo guitar work.

Dude these guys are pretty good and I don't remember them back in the day. They remind me of someone but I can't quite put my finger on it. Metal Church?
FUNNYFARM 10-17-2009, 12:45 AM They remind me of Kind Diamond in a way.
Miller 10-17-2009, 12:59 AM They remind me of Kind Diamond in a way.
Maiden almost has to be done with a lyric sheet if you are not into them. That's just about the only way to really get into them.
I am still trying to put my finger on who MF reminds me of.
Hey do you guys remember warlock? The chick is smoking hot in a Lita Ford kind of way. She did a ballad with Lemmy. Lemmy hardly sings in it but it's a pretty good song and she is hot.

Miller 10-17-2009, 01:04 AM I screwed up. Doro and Lemmy did a couple of songs togeather. The other song wasn't bad but this is the one I meant to post. Damn beer anyway.

I love Dave's voice.. especially when he does that mad voice, kinda sounds like he's singing through gritted teeth... But his over all "singing ability" is kinda limited.. but that's only in comparison to a wailer liker Bruce or maybe Dio? just my two cents.. always been a huge Megadeth fan
I have always been the hugest Black Sabbath mark... saw the reunion tour about ten years ago and it's still the best show I've seen hands down... amazing live.. ozzy may appear dead on TV, but whatever he takes before the show works!
side note - the opening bands for Sabbath were Deftones and Pantera.

Don't get me wrong, I like megadeath. He just doesn't have the range of say a Bruce or Geoff Tate or a Sabastian Bach which I think limits the band from being all it can be so to speak.

wildcat lover 10-20-2009, 08:00 PM You will all most likely laugh & motherf me for this but my all time fav(s) have to be anything by Elvis & Patsy Cline (grew up listening to these plus random bluegrass/country music... hey it was WV what do you expect:)). I LOVE Alicia Keys!!! She writes, produces & plays much of her own music and she can actually sing...which is rare these days. I also really like 311, the Beastie Boys & old school NWA and a ton of others but I won't bore you any more.

Heather, it’s all a matter of what you like. I grew up in Southern Ohio where all the radio and TV stations came from WV, just the opposite side of the state from you. Personally I am not so much into bluegrass but know plenty of people who are. I actually like some country and Elvis. It's sort of sad to say but I might still have an Elvis 8 track around here somewhere. Man I don't miss those things.
I noticed you like old NWA. I don’t suppose you would be interested in an 8 mile NWA sing off with Brent would you? Either way the thread is for anyone who wants to talk about music and you are as welcome as the next.
I LOVE Alicia Keys!!! She writes, produces & plays much of her own music and she can actually sing...
It'll surprise a few people here, being the hard rock and metal fan that I am, but I agree. I heard a lot of shit Top 40 on the bus in high school seeing as how that was what was on the radio. Fallin' and A Woman's Worth were played to death back in 2001l. Those stick out as genuinely good songs amongst all the crap I heard.
And as an homage to Bubba, so did A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton. :D
I also like a lot of classic country from my mom playing a lot of my grandfather's records and tapes when I was a kid. Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Willie Nelson, etc.
GhostRiderOne 10-21-2009, 10:16 AM I'm a huge Def Leppard fan myself.
On thru the Night, High n Dry, and Pyromania really had some kick ass songs on them.
Yes I do like the stuff after that, but when I really want to get pumped its the older harder stuff that I listen to.

Since you mentioned music that your parents got you into -
My parents were huge old country fans as well and I was subjected to many, many hours of it on long road trips. Most of it was garbage, but some like Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Kris Kristopherson kinda rubbed off on me..
Especially Kristopherson
YouTube - Kris Kristofferson - Blame it on the Stones
I wouldn't even classify that as country so much as generic top 40 for the time...
RalphsPerm 10-21-2009, 02:44 PM Ive never got into Maiden much. Theyre ok, I enjoy them enough that I watched the Classic Albums show on "Number of the Beast." I would much rather listen to something like Ride the Lightning etc over anything by Iron Maiden back then. Megadeth are ok as well. Ive always thought of exploring more maiden and megadeth because I dont listen to much music thats new, but I never follow through. As far as metal I'll take Metallica-And Justice for All and earlier. Some Pantera and Slayer is ok.
I also love the 90's rock era up to about 96 or 97 when things turned to shit. Rap also turned to shit at about the same time. There are even a lot of great one-hit wonder songs from that time that you cant hear anywhere anymore.
I love music from the 60's and 70's as well. I like the beatles and John Lennon, Hendrix, floyd etc etc. I love a lot of different music.
As for rap I grew up on NWA and their individual members albums, Public Enemy, Ice-T. I also liked alot of 90's rap, it was very good too in the 90's when the east coast rap got very strong again.
I listen to some new shit but not much. I look at popular rock music these days and think its fucking incredible how bad it is. A lot of cheesy fucking bands, its like you gotta look for hidden shit to find anything good, and Im not going to do much of that. Back when I was young a lot of the great bands were also the popular bands. I think a lot of the great music has already been done and its going to get more and more tough to create and scarce to find good music.

RalphsPerm 10-21-2009, 02:59 PM Nine Inch Nails & Tool
Tool is a great band, loved them in high school, Opiate, Undertow, and Aenima all three albums had not one song you would skip on the albums. I remember Aenima had about 6 songs played on the local rock stations rotation when it was sort of new. Lateralus was ok and I didnt like 10,000 days much, theyve definetly changed as theyve aged to more progressive style from a more general alternative-metal style. I was never a big fan of NIN.
hardcoregamer16 10-26-2009, 10:17 AM its about time SFN got a music thread so thanks. I turn 21 in Dec so I have not been around that long but I do listen to more 80's stuff and I like some 70's bands like Maiden, Who, Zeppelin and Deep Purple. I am just getting in to Maiden so I don't have that many songs, but I am working on it. I remember the first time I heard Maiden on Sirius it was Wrathchild live and I thought holy shit this is one of the best live songs ever heard than I heard the album verison and that too was awesome. than I started listening to Number of The Beast and Run To The Hills, but Wrathchild is still my favorite. Also I heard a little from Flight 666 its pretty good. If anyone has any Maiden songs I should check out or any bands let me know.the one good thing about today's music sucking more than the Angels last night is that I get a chance to listen to older stuff cause today's is so bad it makes you understand how hard it is to make good music seeing as today's bands cant do it. sorry for the long post.

FUNNYFARM 10-27-2009, 08:56 PM The last concert I went to at some hole in the wall club in Houston was Iced Earth during the Glorious Burden tour. Children of Bodom played as well. I was a huge priest fan back in the day. I have a harder time getting into them now but still like them. They are almost better when you listen than see them on something like a dvd.

Miller 11-03-2009, 02:41 AM Have you guys ever heard of a band called Bobaflex? They are from West Virginia. An old friend of mine turned me on to these guys. They have harder stuff but this song just works for me tonight. They are a band still trying to make it but the song seems solid and if nothing else the chick playing pool half way through is effing hot. Let me know what you guys think. I can try to find other songs of theirs on youtube if you guys like. Lyrics are below the video.

It´s been a long time
and i don´t think about the show no more
I wanna go home,i wanna go home
It´s been a long time
and i don´t think i like the road no more
I wanna go home, i wanna go home
Just relax, and take the red one first
so you can go back to work
then they can go back to work
Just relax, and take the red one first
so you can go back to work
then they can go back to work
I´m driving all night
and i don´t know where we were yesterday
-is it time to play?
which way is the stage?
the crowd was on fire
and i don´t recognize a single face
Oh by the way
can we stay at your place
Just relax, and take the red one first
so you can go back to work
then they can go back to work
Just relax, and take the red one first
so you can go back to work
then they can go back to work
im out of my mind
and i don´t care what the doctor say
i´m not ok, oh i´m not ok
It´s been a long time
and i don´t think you love me anymore
pick up your phone
I wanna go home
Just relax, and take the red one first
so you can go back to work
then they can go back to work
Just relax, and take the red one first
so you can go back to work
then they can go back to work

hardcoregamer16 11-04-2009, 10:31 AM Miller hits another home run I like this song at first i though another Hey There Dehlia, but than it kicks in and than though Hey Now. Thank for posting the lyrics it was nice to read along with the song and that chick at the pool table is f'ing hot.
Miller 11-04-2009, 10:36 PM HC a little inside iggy on these guys. Marty (the guys with the power strips) and Shaun (the black hair dude with the blonde on the couch) are Brothers. The super hawt smoking chick playing pool is Shaun's wife. I guess ole boy has same game to tag a chick like that. They have some other stuff that is harder but I don't think any more high quality videos like this. Like I said this band is still trying to find its sea legs. Give me some time and I will post those songs along with the lyrics. I read on the internets they are coming out with a new CD that will be their best yet.
Miller 11-04-2009, 10:54 PM ok I am not sure if his wife is the blonde on the couch or the chick playing pool. Either way that chick playing pool is killing me.

Deathshead 11-19-2009, 11:40 PM Anthrax played with the rap stuff a little which was funny. Anyone remember this?
Love Anthrax. They were the first metal band I got into when I was growing up. Saw the video for Indians on headbangers ball with Adam Curry and I was hooked. SO needless to say they are my favorite band--well the Joey Belladonna version anyways. I dont have 1 favorite song, more like 3 from them.

Miller 12-03-2009, 08:54 PM Ok fuckers what’s the deal? You guys blew up the thread with music when I asked if someone should be banned but now we have a music thread and it’s on the second page of the Bubba forum? What’s up with that?
Let’s set some ground rules here. First Maiden fucking rocks period but there are plenty of other good bands out there. Second I want you fuckers to give Bobaflex a chance and give your honest opinion. They have more stuff coming but I am not sure what is ok to release. Third Rammstein has some good shit. I grew up on Metal Church….Bad Lands is pretty damn good.
I mean seriously, you guys…like myself….always want a music forum but we almost let this thread die? Work with me guys. Talk about the shit you like and explain why. Tell us why it talks to you. It doesn’t always have to be metal….
Miller 12-03-2009, 09:00 PM Oh yeah...I also dated a German chick and though she hated Rammstein, she was a superfreak so euro metal is always good. You guys need to step up your game and not let this die. Another little factoid...lets not forget why this thread exist....Bubba and Brent The Great. Bubba is the only one on Sirius who could score an aswesome interview with Bruce Dicksinson.

Bobaflex plays lots in Columbus, but I am sure you already knew that ;) I really dig their latest disc, and their cover of Jackson 5 is the shit.

I am not saying I am peronsal friends of them but I know people who are. They are pretty much home town boys to me though. I do wonder how in the hell you know about Flex?

I'm from findlay, not that far. They've played here a time or two, and also "Home" got quite a bit of airplay on Sirius Octane 20.

I don't know how fond of "home" everyone is but I love the song. It just talks to me sometimes. I do listen to Octane but I have not heard it there. That is effing sweet they made it that far. Marty and Shaun are good guys best I can tell and I want to see them do well. They did play at the Alrosa Villa a few times and parts of "Home" was filmed there as one of my friends is in the video. I used to work with a couple of guys...Brain and Craig...Brian wore my snake skin boots in the cd cover....from the band WildChyld. They did battle of the bands there a few times. I do miss those guys.

It's been about 1-2 years since I heard it on Octane....but it was in regular rotation for quite a while. Yes...GREAT song, as is most of the disc.

I found some new stuff on youtube and to be honest it sounded like some of their best yet. They are all Point Pleasent WV boys in the band. That is the town next to where I grew up. Again I stand by this statement...the jealous chick playing pool in "Home" is striking and one of the hotest i've seen in a while.
Miller 12-03-2009, 10:56 PM ok with respect to some good ole boys trying to make it and SJ's convo, here is a repost of Bobaflex "Home" What the hell do I know, maybe this should be a thread about bands you love and new bands trying to make it?
Either way, I represent to you....Bobaflex.... YouTube- Bobaflex - Home

I thought Flight 666 was good, but not great. I love Bruce though, what a great interview with Bubba a few months back.
mrfrogdaddy 12-05-2009, 07:19 PM i think with their new release, "God and Guns" lynyrd skynyrd remains on top of my list. they have the vocals and plenty of guitars. their new song in particular "this aint my country" i think it is is crazy good.

I still think Rio was the better dvd but 666 was a nice change. Bubba really did handle the interview well. I was a little worried because Bruce can be difficult sometimes but that turned out to be one of the best interviews i've heard period.

Shit Miller, that's not fair. I know I should come up with something a Maiden nerd would, but damnit, I love "2 Minutes to Midnight" and my band played "The Trooper" for years.
Ok..."Wasted Years".

Ned Hardly 12-06-2009, 09:28 PM Speaking of music, which of the guys music do you like the best? Bubba's music is just to vanilla for me, Manson's is flat out to tucky, Dave's...not so much, Spice's is mostly unlistenible and well Ned's is...Ned's.
That leaves Brent's music and while it's cheesey most of the time, it's better than the rest. I love it when a song like Lick It Up come on after a break, because you just know a ribbin's coming.
The Silver goes to Bubba, but in this case there can be no third place.
